Chapter 2 The Mysterious Paradise

The courtyard was a mess. Broken pieces of a clay pot were scattered all over the ground, and soup and bits of chicken were mixed with the dirt. Liu Huiru, her hair disheveled, collapsed to the ground, crying so hard she was almost breathless.

Qian Jiangang stood in front of her with his hands on his hips, looking impatient. Behind him, the eldest son and his wife stood on the porch, chuckling as they watched the spectacle.

"Mom." Qian Lai rushed over and helped Liu Huiru up, her eyes reddening.

“No more. Lai Lai, we’re not living with your dad anymore. He’s never cared about us.” Liu Huiru’s years of pent-up anger erupted the moment she saw her daughter. She burst into tears, “I finally managed to buy a chicken, and your dad secretly gave it to the eldest son’s family. When I found out, the soup in the pot had been diluted with water, and all that was left were chicken heads and feet…” Liu Huiru was heartbroken.

I feel bad that the chicken I painstakingly saved up to buy ended up in a dog's stomach. I feel even worse for my daughter, who is injured but can't even have a sip of chicken soup.

"Qian Jiangang! Are you still my father or not?" Qian Lai roared angrily, his hatred surging forth.

Qian Jiangang was taken aback by her calling him by his first name, and instantly flew into a rage: "You bastard! How dare you call your father by his first name! It's just a bowl of chicken soup, why be so formal among family? You two have no class, making a spectacle of yourselves in front of the whole courtyard!"

"Family?" Qian Lai's voice was icy. "I think you and them are the real family. How long are you going to keep sucking our blood?"

"Brother Lai, how can you speak to your elders like that? Your uncle died saving your father. Now, your father is repaying that debt by taking better care of us orphans and widows. Isn't that right? My poor Qian Dong and Xiao Zhen have been fatherless since they were little. Bloodsucking? Who's sucking your blood... Give me back my people, and the three of us will leave right now!"

Qin Hongxiang had honed her tricks to perfection over the years. The neighbors, watching the spectacle as if it were a theatrical performance, burst into laughter.

Qian Lai ignored the shrew, grabbed her mother, and questioned Qian Jiangang with an icy expression: "Dad, have you made a decision about what we discussed yesterday?"

Her face flushed red, and she wished she could beat up each and every one of these scumbags.

“Since your sister is so kind and has decided to support herself after going to university, I’ll keep the dowry for your brother to get married! As for you, once you marry into the Gu family, you’ll certainly not be short of food or drink. The dowry should be given back to your maternal family.”

"Then what about my dowry? I know you saved 300 yuan for your cousin's dowry, so mine should be the same, right?"

The onlookers nodded in agreement.

"You're talking nonsense. I don't have 300 yuan. As soon as I get my salary, I use it to help with household expenses. I don't have a single penny left." A hint of guilt flashed in Qian Jiangang's eyes.

"No?"

Without saying a word, Qian Lai rushed into the small kitchen.
