Chapter 217 Don't Sing Out Loud

"You mean that new military doctor, Dr. Qian?"

That's great, the two of them are a good match.

"That's right, Aunt Zhang is so happy now, she can finally keep her daughter here!"

"I'm off now. I'll call out to Sister Su later; with her penchant for taking advantage, she'll definitely be the first to come over if there's something like this."

Jiang Wenwan smiled. She still had a lot left in the pot, and once everyone came to get their share, she wouldn't have to clean up.

Sister Song came over at the courtyard gate.

"I came here because of the smell of your house, what are you doing?"

When Jiang Wenwan saw her coming over, she took out a duck neck wrapped in oil paper and gave it to her.

"I caught a few wild ducks and braised them at home. You can't just eat anything these days, but you can still have some duck necks!"

Sister-in-law Song didn't answer; she asked first:

"Is this enough for you? Give me some braising liquid and I'll make my own when I get home."

Jiang Wenwan would never give her the braising liquid, for fear that eating too much of it would be bad for the baby.

"Don't even think about it. I'll distribute all the braising liquid later. I've already told you you can't eat anything at this time."

Upon hearing this, Song Dandan smiled and accepted the duck neck that she was offered.

"Alright then, I won't stand on ceremony with you. Just now, when I was at home, the fragrance from your house kept wafting into my nose."

Hey, it's not like I haven't eaten enough. My stomach is growling, but I still couldn't resist coming to your house for a look.

Anyone who didn't know better would think I'm incredibly greedy.

The smell of meat on ordinary days is nauseating.

My husband, Lao Lü, bought me pork belly, but I couldn't eat a single bite.

"Hey, it tastes so good if you don't cook it like this. It's delicious."

Jiang Wenwan smiled.

"It's delicious, isn't it? But I made too much sauce."

He was talking while looking at Sister Su outside the courtyard.

"Sister-in-law Su is here."

Sister-in-law Su has been too embarrassed to meet Jiang Wenwan lately.

"I heard from Sister Qi that you asked her to come and scoop out the brine."

I'll scoop a teacupful to take home; there's nothing else to braise at home.

Your braising liquid smells amazing. Even without braising anything, just eating it with steamed buns would probably be delicious.

Jiang Wenwan took the teacup from her and ladled out a cupful for her.

"You know what, it's really delicious to eat it directly with steamed buns or rice, it's really good."

How is your deputy battalion commander Zhang's injury?

Are you feeling better?

Sister-in-law Su sighed.

"You know, he's injured in both arms. When I wipe his butt after he goes to the toilet, he complains."

If he were like Company Commander Sun, even if he lost an arm or a leg, he could still do some work.

Upon hearing what Sister Su said, Jiang Wenwan and Sister Song exchanged a glance and couldn't help but laugh.

"This is because they know that Deputy Battalion Commander Zhang has a wife, while Company Commander Sun is a bachelor."

"What if he hurts both arms, and there's no one to clean up his mess?"

Hearing what Sister Song said, Sister Su and Jiang Wenwan couldn't help but laugh.

Jiang Wenwan was also speechless at this logic.

Aunt Jiang came in with a tea mug, and all that could be heard was their cheerful laughter.

"What are you talking about? It's so funny!"

Sister-in-law Su picked up her teacup and walked out.

"Besides, my husband has injured both arms, so I have to feed him!"

"Oh dear, that's inconvenient. You'll have to work hard these days."

However, as military spouses, it's our duty to take good care of them when they're injured.

Before she could finish speaking, she was met with a glare from Sister-in-law Su.

"Hey, Aunt Jiang, that's enough. How could I not know how to take care of my own man!"

Since you joined the Women's Federation, you've become even more of a preacher.

I don't want to listen to you right now.

After saying that, Sister Su turned and left without even looking at her.

Aunt Jiang rolled her eyes from behind.

"Oh my, look at you, can't I even say a few words?"

After saying that, he turned to Jiang Wenwan and Sister-in-law Song and said:

"I'm telling you, the performing arts troupe will be putting on a show in a couple of days."

Our Women's Federation has decided to put on a program too, just to join in the fun.

Hearing her say that, Jiang Wenwan was reminded of the Chinese New Year.

The military spouses went to watch the performance by the cultural troupe, and to be honest, the performance was pretty good.

However, it's a bit monotonous, consisting only of singing and dancing.

"Why are you putting on a show when it's neither a holiday nor a festival?"

We military wives weren't asked to prepare any performances during the Lunar New Year, so why are we suddenly being asked to do so now?

I really don't understand, who came up with this idea?

Aunt Jiang is already having trouble getting things done.

"Hey, it was those young girls from the performing arts troupe who came up with it."

I think they just want to see us make a fool of ourselves.

I've looked around, but I haven't found anyone willing to sign up for the performance.

You two…

Sister-in-law Song was still waving a duck neck in one hand.

"Don't come looking for me, I'm pregnant."

I've been feeling nauseous these past couple of days. If I throw up on stage, it'll be even more embarrassing.

Aunt Jiang understood after hearing her say that; the pregnant woman was the one she couldn't rely on.

He could only turn his gaze to Jiang Wenwan.

"Jiang Meizi, you're not pregnant, so you can manage, right?"

"Look at everyone in our residential compound, you're the prettiest one."

Jiang Wenwan also didn't want to go on stage and steal the limelight.

She has plenty of food and drink, so why is she trying to show off?

"Sister Jiang, I may have a long face and be pretty, but my voice is terrible!"

If you're not afraid I'll attract the wolves, I'll sing for you!

Hearing her say that, Aunt Jiang rolled her eyes at her and took the tea mug filled with brine that Jiang Wenwan handed over.

"What other talents do you have?"

Singing and dancing are fine too!
