Just then, a noisy commotion suddenly arose outside the courtyard.
"The groom is here!"
"Commander Qin is here to pick up his wife!"
Li Xiumei's eyes lit up, and she immediately perked up. She ran to the door, put her hands on her hips, and shouted outside, "Trying to take away such a beautiful bride like us won't be so easy! No gift, no door opening!"
Outside the courtyard, Qin Ye was wearing a brand-new Type 65 military uniform, with a crisp collar and shoulder insignia that gleamed in the sunlight.
On his chest, the medals representing his illustrious military achievements—first-class and second-class merits—were polished to a gleaming shine, almost blinding.
He was tall and imposing with a stern face, but at this moment, there was an obvious hint of tension in his sharp black eyes.
Behind him followed a group of comrades who loved watching the drama unfold, all grinning from ear to ear.
"Open the door, sister-in-law!"
"Commander, you need to show some sincerity!"
"Sing a song! Even 'Returning from Target Practice' would be fine!"
Qin Ye was pushed to the front by his comrades. His handsome face was tightly closed. The regimental commander Qin, who had never changed his expression in the face of a hail of bullets, was now stumped by a thin wooden door.
He cleared his throat, hesitated for a long time, and finally squeezed out a sentence through gritted teeth: "I...I can't sing."
A burst of laughter erupted in the room.
Li Xiumei was overjoyed and called out through the door, "You can't sing, but you can at least say something nice, right? Praise our bride until we're satisfied, then we'll open the door for you!"
This was more deadly to Qin Ye than singing.
He stood at the door, the redness on his face spreading from the tips of his ears to the base of his neck.
His mind went blank. He racked his brains for adjectives, such as "beautiful and generous" and "gentle and kind"... but they all seemed too light and unworthy of his Tangtang.
His comrades behind him were so anxious that they scratched their heads and offered him all sorts of advice.
"Commander, you said your wife looks like an angel!"
"No, you should say he looks like a movie star!"
Qin Ye took a deep breath, as if he had made a tremendous decision, and facing the door, he roared, word by word, in his booming voice that could command thousands of troops:
"Comrade Su Tang! I believe you are the most beautiful woman in the world! You have high ideological awareness and strong personal abilities! You are the only partner I, Qin Ye, have chosen for my life! I request that you come home with me immediately! To complete the marriage task assigned by the organization!"
This bold confession stunned everyone.
After a brief silence, thunderous laughter and applause erupted both inside and outside the courtyard.
Inside the house, Su Tang smiled broadly, her eyes crinkling.
The door creaked open.
Qin Ye's gaze swept past everyone and landed directly on the bright and beautiful figure in the center of the room.
In that instant, he felt as if his breath had been stolen away.
He had seen her heroic act of shooting a wolf dead on a snowy mountain, her calm and professional demeanor in front of the operating table, and her sweet and docile sleeping in his arms.
But he had never seen her like this before.
Dressed in red, with exquisite features, she looked like a fairy who had stepped out of a painting, yet she stood so real in front of him, smiling gently at him.
It's as if all the colors of the world have converged on her alone.
He could no longer tolerate anyone else.
Amidst the good-natured laughter and watchful eyes of everyone, Qin Ye walked steadily and resolutely towards Su Tang.
