Although Qin Ye had accepted Su Tang's identity as a "time traveler," it was ultimately just a concept.
When this concept is transformed into a living, breathing reality that overturns all his previous understanding, the impact is devastating.
He opened his mouth, but found that he couldn't utter a single word.
Around them, some pedestrians dressed in various simple and comfortable clothes had already noticed them.
Those people looked at Qin Ye with curiosity, making no attempt to hide their scrutiny of his outwardly retro military overcoat and Su Tang's vintage-looking red cotton-padded jacket.
Just then, two emotionless, mechanical voices came from above them.
"Beep—Warning: Unregistered organism information detected."
Qin Ye looked up.
Two silver-white, basketball-sized floating spheres silently flew in front of them, and a glaring red warning light lit up in the center of the spheres.
"Please present your citizen ID immediately for information verification. Repeat, please present your citizen ID immediately."
What is this? A flying iron ball? And it can talk?
Although Qin Ye's brain was in a state of malfunction and digestion, his body's instincts had already reacted first.
He instantly shielded Su Tang completely behind him, his legs slightly apart, assuming a standard fighting defensive stance.
"take it easy."
A soft little hand reached out from behind him, gently pulled his arm, and tugged him back a little.
"Leave it to me." Su Tang's voice carried a reassuring calmness.
She stepped out from behind Qin Ye, facing the two menacing hovering robots, her face showing no sign of panic.
She presented the antique ring on her hand.
A soft buzzing sound.
A pale blue, semi-transparent virtual screen appeared out of thin air and was projected onto her hand, which was adorned with a ring.
Su Tang's slender, fair fingers quickly tapped a few times on the empty light screen.
Soon, a file page appeared on the screen, showing her and Qin Ye's portraits, along with a series of codes he couldn't understand.
“The citizen ID has been uploaded. Please verify it,” Su Tang said calmly.
One of the spherical robots emitted a soft green beam of light, scanning back and forth across the virtual screen.
"Beep... Information verification in progress... Verification complete."
The flashing red light instantly turned into green, signifying safety.
The cold, rigid mechanical voice softened, even taking on a slightly more human tone.
"Information verified. Citizens Tang Su and Ye Qin, welcome to the Central Security Zone of Beijing. We wish you both a pleasant stay."
After saying that, the two spherical robots flashed their green lights, drew a graceful arc, and flew away as if they had never been there.
In the alley, only Qin Ye, whose body was stiff from excessive vigilance, and Su Tang, who had a calm expression, remained.
The crisis was thus resolved.
After all, for Su Tang, cracking this robot and then forging two fake identities were basic operations for a special agent.
Qin Ye looked at his wife beside him.
She was still the same Su Tang, with her beautiful features.
But at this moment, he suddenly felt that he might not know her as well as a brick in this alley.
"You...that just now..."
Su Tang looked at his surprised expression and suddenly found it somewhat amusing.
She took his large, cold hand, which was cold from nervousness, and warmed it with her own body heat.
“That’s a ‘patrol officer,’ something like a combination of a local police officer and a household registration officer from your time,” she explained patiently. “As for what I just registered, it’s a personal terminal, every citizen has one, used for communication, payments, and identity verification. Once registered, we can move freely around the city using only our faces, that is, facial recognition.”
She paused, looking at his still bewildered eyes, and couldn't help but smile.
She tiptoed, leaned close to his ear, and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear:
"Don't be so nervous, Commander Qin."
"Come on, let me take you to change your clothes first, and then... let's try Peking duck from over a hundred years later, how does it taste?"
