Chapter 147 A Diary, Luring the Snake Out of Its Hole (2/2)

This announcement was like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples everywhere.

The bulletin board at the research institute was packed with people, whispering and discussing among themselves.

Just then, Lin Fan came out of the archives carrying a stack of documents. He seemed to lose his footing and slipped, scattering the documents all over the floor with a "clatter".

He frantically picked them up, "casually" complaining to Chen Xue beside him:

"Oh dear, what a mess! I heard that Captain Wang Fei's diary has been found, locked in that old cabinet in the archives. Director Qian said that tomorrow it will be sent to the military region headquarters for technical appraisal along with the unearthed artifacts. I wonder what they'll find out..."

In the crowd, one figure visibly stiffened when he heard the words "diary" and "technical appraisal".

All of this was observed by Su Tang, who was pretending to read a newspaper in the corner.

She knew in her heart that the fish had smelled the fishy smell.

The mole knew better than anyone that Wang Fei's diary contained far too many things that shouldn't have been discovered.

Once the diary and the so-called "new evidence" unearthed at the scene are matched, he will surely die.

His only option was to destroy the diary completely before it was sent away.

That night, all was quiet.

The research institute building was pitch black.

A dark figure appeared silently outside the archives room, close to the wall.

He looked around warily, and after confirming that no one was around, he took out a thin wire from his pocket and skillfully inserted it into the old keyhole.

"Click".

After a barely audible click, the door opened.

The shadowy figure slipped inside and gently closed the door behind them.

He skillfully bypassed several filing cabinets and headed straight for the most inconspicuous metal safe in the corner.

He knew that Wang Fei's diary was inside.

Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, but he sneered inwardly: A bunch of fools, thinking they can catch me like this? Once I destroy this diary, even the King of Heaven himself won't be able to find anything!

Time passed second by second, and just when he finally heard a crisp "click" from the safe after exerting all his strength, he was overjoyed.

He quickly pulled open the heavy cabinet door and immediately saw the hardcover notebook wrapped in kraft paper with "Wang Fei's Diary" written on the outside.

He grabbed the diary, ready to turn and leave.

"Smack!"

The lights in the entire archive room suddenly blazed on!

A blinding white light instantly filled the entire space, and his eyes stung with pain, causing him to instinctively close them.

A thunderous shout, accompanied by the click of a bullet being chambered, came from the doorway.

"Don't move!"
