Chapter 22 Unexpected Incident on the Train!

Su Tang's berth was in a soft sleeper carriage, a four-person compartment with one lower berth, which was considered quite good at the time.

She stuffed the large army green canvas bag that her uncle had given her under her bunk; inside were clothes and daily necessities prepared by her grandmother.

Another small bag was placed next to her pillow, containing her identification documents, a small amount of cash and receipts, and some snacks that she had taken out of her storage space to disguise them.

The real treasures are all in the ring.

Just as Su Tang finished making the bed, the door to the private room was opened, and a woman who looked to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old walked in, with two neat braids.

She was wearing a faded blue khaki suit, had delicate features, and was holding a chubby-faced little boy in her arms, who looked to be about four or five years old.

"Hello comrade, we're also from this private room," the woman greeted with a smile, her voice gentle.

"Hello," Su Tang replied with a polite nod.

The little boy stared at Su Tang with his big, bright eyes, then opened his mouth and said in a childish voice, "Sister, you're so pretty!"

The woman playfully patted her son's bottom: "Little Tiger, don't be rude."

Then she smiled at Su Tang somewhat shyly:

"This child has never seen much of the world. My name is Li Xiumei, and this is my son, Xiaohu. We're going to Chengdu."

"Su Tang".

Su Tang gave her name, and looking at Xiao Hu's adorable appearance, her eyes softened a little. "Xiao Hu is very cute."

Xiao Hu was praised, and immediately wriggled out of his mother's arms, ran to Su Tang, and looked up at her with his little face:

"Sister, you're even prettier than the fairies in the supply and marketing cooperative's magazine!"

Li Xiumei blushed: "This child, he's just talking nonsense!"

Su Tang was amused, took out a fruit hard candy from her small bag, unwrapped it, and handed it to Xiao Hu:

"Little Tiger, here's some candy for you."

This candy was taken out of her spatial dimension; it's a product of the 22nd century, and its taste far surpasses that of this era.

Little Tiger's eyes lit up. He took the candy, popped it into his mouth, and mumbled, "Thank you, pretty sister!"

Seeing this, Li Xiumei quickly said, "Oh dear, Comrade Su Tang, I can't accept this. You've gone to so much trouble."

"It's nothing, just one candy." Su Tang waved her hand.

Soon, the last two passengers in the compartment arrived. One of them was a middle-aged man around fifty years old, wearing glasses and a simple Zhongshan suit. He had a bulging briefcase under his arm and looked like an intellectual.

He simply nodded to everyone and then silently began tidying up his luggage on the upper bunk.

There was also a young man in his early twenties, who seemed to be the middle-aged man's attendant, on the upper bunk.

Li Xiumei and Xiaohu are Su Tang's bunkmates.

Li Xiumei was very talkative and soon started chatting with Su Tang.

"Comrade Su Tang, are you also going to Chengdu? To visit relatives or for work?"

Su Tang thought for a moment and said, "I guess you could call it a family visit. My fiancé is in the military in Sun City."

Before Qin Ye left, her uncle Lin Wenbo prepared a detailed route map and a letter of introduction for her. Qin Ye's unit was the 52nd Infantry Regiment of the Tibetan Division, but they would first transit and assemble in Chengdu before being uniformly arranged to enter the Tibetan area.

Li Xiumei's eyes lit up: "Oh my, what a coincidence! My husband is in the Tibetan army! He's stationed in Riguang City. We'll transfer to a bus after we get to Chengdu."

"Really? That's quite a coincidence." Su Tang smiled.

Li Xiumei exclaimed "Ah!"

"My husband, Lao Wang, works in the logistics department; he's in charge of the warehouse. Comrade Su Tang, what's your fiancé's position?"

Su Tang, being cautious, said calmly, "I'm not entirely sure."

"That's alright." Liu Xiumei lowered her voice and leaned closer: "When we get to Rongcheng, we can travel together! I know that area well, so I can help you out."

Su Tang thought it would be good to have more company, so she nodded in agreement: "Okay, then I'll trouble you, Sister Li."

"No trouble at all!" Li Xiumei smiled broadly.

The journey was long, and Su Tang would take out a medical notebook she had brought from her space and read it during the day.

Or they might simply close their eyes and rest, but their consciousness would actually enter a space, either learning new medical technologies in a medical laboratory or tending to the thriving crops on the black soil.

The train kept stopping and starting, and some passengers got on and off at each station.

The carriage was bustling with people. Su Tang appeared to be reading a book, but in reality, she was constantly paying attention to her surroundings.

She went to the restroom in the connecting area between the train carriages.

Train toilets in that era were rudimentary and didn't smell very good.

Just as she was about to return to her private room, she caught a glimpse of a furtive figure out of the corner of her eye.

A fat man with a big beard and wearing a wide-brimmed hat took advantage of the crowded corridor and quickly pulled the middle-aged man's black briefcase from the upper bunk!

After succeeding, the fat man immediately turned around, lowered his head, and tried to squeeze into the crowd.

These days, there are quite a few people who are really bold. They're even stealing things right under her nose.

Should she just go up and fight? No, that would be too much of a commotion. Her current identity is that of a delicate capitalist's daughter. If she knocks someone down with one punch, how would she explain it later?

Then let him know what it means to do something without anyone noticing.

Su Tang remained expressionless, and even considerately stepped aside to make way for the fat man.

Just as the fat man brushed past her, she flicked her right hand almost imperceptibly.

A silver needle, as thin as a cow's hair, flew from her fingertip toward the fat man's nape...
