Jiang Yan: "Who are you?"
These two words were like a bucket of cold water poured over Bai Wei's head.
He didn't even recognize himself.
The soldier, who had wrapped himself up like a refugee, raised one hand and carefully lifted a corner of the coat covering his head.
"It's me, Bai Wei."
Her voice was somewhat muffled due to the swelling of her cheeks and lips, but the shrewdness and ambition in her eyes remained undiminished.
She tried to force what she thought was a proper smile, but it aggravated the wound on her lip, causing her to hiss and gasp in pain, making her look somewhat comical.
"My face... I accidentally got scratched by a branch, it looks a bit ugly, so I'm covering it up for now," Bai Wei explained vaguely.
Her eyes, however, desperately sought to see a hint of concern on his cold, stern face.
However, there was nothing there.
Jiang Yan's gaze lingered for only a second on the clear, obviously fingernail-marked scratches on her face. He was somewhat surprised, and a knowing glint flashed in his eyes. He had guessed the truth pretty accurately.
Meng Shi, who was beside him, was less reserved: "This isn't a scratch, it's clearly a bite mark!"
Bai Wei felt embarrassed after Meng Shi exposed her.
Coupled with Jiang Yan's surprisingly cold reaction, Bai Wei felt a sharp pain in her heart, and a sense of humiliation welled up inside her.
But she told herself it was okay. Once everyone knew that Bai Wei had won the red flag and achieved the highest total score, Jiang Yan would naturally look at her differently.
Proof of ability speaks louder than any words.
Thinking of this, Bai Wei straightened her back and took the initiative to get to the point, her tone carrying a deliberately relaxed feel: "Jiang Yan, how did your team do this time? You must have gained quite a bit, right?"
Jiang Yan glanced at her and uttered five words: "Not bad, eight green flags."
Eight green flags!
Eighty points!
As soon as this number was announced, the survivors who had been eavesdropping nearby burst into a low gasp of surprise!
"My God! Eighty points! Jiang Yan's team got eighty points!"
"That's amazing! I worked myself to the bone and almost got eliminated, only managing to grab a green flag, while they quietly scored 80 points!"
"As expected of the top male soldier, his strength is undeniable! Eighty points, that's definitely the highest score in the entire competition so far!"
"It seems that Jiang Yan's team will undoubtedly take first place in this assessment!"
Hearing the gasps of amazement and self-evident conclusions around her, Bai Wei's smile grew even brighter. The comical feeling brought about by the swelling seemed to be diluted by the immense sense of superiority contained in her smile.
This is exactly the effect she wanted.
"Eighty points, that's really good." Bai Wei nodded approvingly, her tone like a leader praising a subordinate. "However, it seems our team will take first place this time."
She didn't speak loudly, but it was enough for everyone around her to hear clearly.
In an instant, all the discussions stopped, and dozens of eyes suddenly focused on Bai Wei, filled with shock and doubt.
Higher than Jiang Yan's 80 points? How is that possible?
Bai Wei thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention. She cleared her throat and began her performance.
"This assessment was indeed complicated. Our team encountered the strongest opponents from the very beginning, Qiao Lin and Du Jinshan." Her words immediately piqued everyone's interest, especially those who had been eliminated by Qiao Lin and Du Jinshan, who pricked up their ears.
Over in the elimination zone, Qiao Lin, who had just been eliminated, and Du Jinshan, who looked utterly defeated, also glanced over instinctively.
