He stepped forward, picked up the enamel basin that Gao Kai had placed on the washstand, and scooped it full of cold water.
Amidst everyone's astonished gazes, he walked up to Gao Kai and slowly poured a whole basin of cold water over Gao Kai's head.
"Splash—!"
The icy well water instantly drenched Gao Kai.
Water droplets streamed down his hair, cheeks, and neck.
"You're not thinking straight, so I'll give you a wake-up call." The tall, muscular man casually tossed the empty basin aside, making a jarring sound.
"Remember, trash should act like trash."
Hahahaha!
The soldiers of Battalion Two erupted in deafening laughter.
Gao Kai stood there, soaked to the bone, water droplets mingling with tears that slid down his cheeks. He was trembling all over, not from the cold, but from extreme anger and humiliation.
He clenched his teeth so hard that his gums bled, but he couldn't utter a single word.
Wang Jin and the others behind him all lowered their heads, not daring to look at him, much less at the arrogant soldiers of the Second Battalion.
The entire water room was deathly silent, save for the jarring laughter of Battalion Two.
"Let's go, let's go. Why waste time with these good-for-nothings?"
The tall, muscular man seemed to have lost interest as well. He waved his hand and led his men, swaggering out.
As he passed by Gao Kai, the guy called Ma Hou deliberately stuck out his foot and tripped Gao Kai's leg.
Gao Kai was already weak all over, and when he was tripped by him, he staggered and fell to the ground.
A bar of Seagull brand soap that he had placed next to the laundry sink also fell to the ground, which was covered in sewage, with a "plop".
The laughter grew even louder.
The men of Battalion No. 2, like a group of victorious roosters, walked out of the washroom with their heads held high and disappeared into the night.
In the washroom, only Gao Kai and his few equally dejected companions remained.
Gao Kai lay on the cold ground, his shoulders trembling violently, and suppressed whimpers, like those of a wounded wild beast, came from his throat.
A grown man cried.
Outside the window, Chen Xiaocao was furious and whispered to Su Tang, "Su An, those guys from the Second Battalion are really bullying us!"
Su Tang didn't speak, but patted her hand, signaling her to be quiet.
After the people from Battalion No. 2 had gone far away, she led Chen Xiaocao out of the shadows and pushed open the door to the washroom.
When Wang Jin and the others saw Su Tang, their faces were filled with embarrassment and shame. They opened their mouths, but couldn't utter a single word.
Su Tang's gaze didn't linger on them for even a second.
She walked straight up to Gao Kai, who was lying on the ground, his shoulders still twitching.
She crouched down, stretched out her slender, fair fingers, and picked up the mud-stained "Seagull" brand soap from the sewage-covered ground.
She didn't wipe it, she just held it like that, and then gently placed it into Gao Kaiyin's trembling hand that was clenched tightly.
Gao Kai's sobs stopped abruptly. He suddenly raised his head, his eyes, filled with tears and humiliation, meeting Su Tang's calm and unwavering gaze.
There was no sympathy, no pity in those eyes, only a bottomless calm that made his heart pound with unease.
Su Tang's voice was very soft, "Your hands are for fixing guns, not for trembling."
Gao Kai's body froze, and the trembling miraculously stopped.
Su Tang stood up, looking down at him with a cold smile.
"Do you want them to drink back double the amount of this water?"
