Chapter 255 The Privately Modified Weapons Have Been Exposed! (1/2)

Chapter 255 The Privately Modified Weapons Have Been Exposed! Old Man Sun reacted the fastest, almost reflexively, rushing to the heavy iron door of the workshop in one stride.

He didn't open it completely, but carefully pulled it open just enough for one person to turn sideways. Dim light leaked out from the crack, illuminating a young and wary face outside.

"Who's in there? What's all this commotion about in the middle of the night? Why are you making such a racket?"

The young sentry's voice wasn't loud, but in the deathly silence of the night, it struck Old Man Sun's heart like a hammer. He tightened his grip on the Type 56 assault rifle, and the muzzle unconsciously rose slightly.

Old Sun's heart skipped a beat, but his face instantly filled with impatience and anger. He glared at them, looking like a watchdog woken from its afternoon nap, and retorted in a low voice:

"What are you yelling about! Didn't you see the note Instructor Lei wrote on the door? Emergency repair mission! Are your eyes in your crotch?"

The young sentry was taken aback by his sudden outburst of anger and lowered his gun slightly.

He did see a piece of paper pasted on the door, but it was so dark that he couldn't make out what it said.

But the sounds coming from the workshop were too strange. There was the screeching sound of grinding wheels cutting, the hum of lathes, and even a burnt smell of red-hot metal.

"Emergency repairs? It's almost dawn, what's the rush? I didn't receive any notification." The sentry wasn't completely intimidated; instead, he became even more suspicious and peered through the crack in the door.

Gao Kai's heart jumped into his throat.

It’s over!

His mind went blank, a complete void.

If someone is caught modifying weapons without authorization, they might not only be allowed to remain in the military, but could also face a military court-martial!

He subconsciously looked at Su Tang, only to see that she had simply stopped what she was doing and stood still. Her clear eyes, under the dim light, were as calm as a bottomless ancient well, as if the sentry outside who might break in at any moment did not exist at all.

This composure calmed Gao Kai's wildly beating heart a little.

Seeing this, Old Man Sun knew that ordinary threats would not work.

His eyes darted around, and he simply opened the door a little wider, pointed at himself, and started cursing even more fiercely:

"You're new here, aren't you? Don't you recognize this old man? Tomorrow we're going to fight those bastards from Battalion Two. Our guns are malfunctioning, and Instructor Lei is frantic. He gave us special permission to work through the night to repair them! What, you want our brothers from Battalion Three to go into battle tomorrow with firewood sticks? If you delay the exercise, I'll send you straight to the back hill to raise pigs, you believe me?! Get lost!"

The words "exercise" and "Instructor Lei" finally became the last straw that broke the camel's back.

The phrase "let the brothers take fire sticks and go out" in particular struck a nerve with the sentry.

He looked again at Old Man Sun's wrinkled, dark, and smelly face. He was indeed a well-known veteran in the camp, with a bad temper that even Instructor Lei gave him some leeway.

Just as he was about to leave, he caught a glimpse of a slender figure in the workshop, besides Old Man Sun and another male soldier.

She was a female soldier?

The sentry's vigilance was once again at its peak.

“Master Sun, it’s not that I don’t trust you.” The sentry’s attitude hardened, and he gripped his gun tighter. “But according to regulations, I have to go in and check. It’s my duty.”

As he spoke, he actually tried to squeeze in!

Old Sun broke out in a cold sweat in an instant. He braced himself against the door with his body, his face turning red.

"You...you dare! This is a military secret! Instructor Lei gave it special permission!"

"Then show me the approval slip!" the sentry refused to budge.

Gao Kai was so nervous that he was sweating profusely.

Just at this critical moment, Su Tang's voice rang out, clear and cold, yet exceptionally clear.

"Let him in."

Old Man Sun and Gao Kai turned around abruptly, staring at her in disbelief.

Let her in? Wouldn't that be like walking into a trap?

Su Tang ignored them and walked over by herself, standing behind Old Man Sun by the door.

She was still wearing her oil-stained work clothes, and her face was a little dusty, but her eyes were surprisingly bright.
