The headquarters of Battalion No. 3.
Following Su An's detailed plans before his departure, the entire camp resembled an anthill about to be breached, filled with chaos and panic before the apocalypse.
"Hurry! Third squad, move that machine gun to firing point number two! And do it quickly!"
"Sandbags! We need more sandbags! The defenses on the east side are too thin; they can't hold!"
Jiang Yan stood behind the makeshift command platform, holding binoculars and calmly observing everything. His brows were furrowed, and his face perfectly conveyed a sense of anxiety and exhaustion, making him appear like a commander on the verge of collapse under immense pressure.
Yue led the soldiers of the second squad to set up traps in the outer area in a "frantic" manner, and deliberately made a big commotion from time to time.
Although the soldiers carried out orders efficiently under Jiang Yan's authority, most of them had their own doubts.
"Is this...is this really going to work?" A young soldier complained to his comrade breathlessly as he ran back and forth carrying empty ammunition boxes.
"Execute orders!" the veteran beside him hissed. "We do whatever the commander-in-chief tells us to do! What do you know about fighting, kid!"
Despite saying this, the veteran's eyes were filled with doubt. He had never even heard of such a "opening the door to thieves" tactic, let alone seen it.
Just then, a rapid static came from the walkie-talkie, and the scout's voice rang out.
"Report to Commander-in-Chief! Report to Commander-in-Chief! The main force of Battalion No. 2... they, they've all been mobilized! They've crossed the edge of the A-sector swamp and are rapidly approaching our headquarters! Number of men... at least four squads!!"
The news hit the camp like a boulder dropped into water, causing panic throughout the camp.
"It's over... they've launched their final assault!"
"Four squads! How are we supposed to fight this?! Su An and her team only took two squads, and we only have thirty men left in our battalion..."
Jiang Yan put down his binoculars and picked up the walkie-talkie: "Did you see clearly? How many of them are there?"
"Report! At least... at least fifty people."
"Understood!" Jiang Yan slammed down the walkie-talkie and roared at the entire battalion, "Did you all hear that! The enemy's main force is coming! Everyone! Hold your positions! No one is allowed to retreat a single step without my order! Do you understand?"
"Yes!" The response was loud, yet tinged with a sense of tragedy and despair.
However, not everyone shares Jiang Yan's absolute trust in Su An's plan.
In a corner of the position, Qiao Lin, holding an ammunition box, watched this humiliating scene unfold before her, and was furious.
Her originally fair face flushed red with anger and resentment.
What's going on? Is this what you call fighting a war?
This is clearly like washing your neck clean and sticking it out to be chopped off!
She couldn't understand why Jiang Yan would believe Su An's taciturn nonsense so readily!
They actually agreed to this utterly absurd plan, making everyone here act like clowns, putting on a show for those bastards in Battalion Two!
The more I thought about it, the more the fire in my heart burned.
The more she looked at this chaotic and hypocritical battlefield, the more frustrated she felt, as if she was about to explode.
She couldn't hold back any longer, threw the empty ammunition box on the ground, and complained to the other veteran team members around her who were also full of grievances.
The sound was neither too loud nor too soft, just enough for people in the surrounding small area to hear.
"How pathetic! We actually led everyone to put on a show and wait to die! If the people in Battalion Two knew how cowardly we were, they'd laugh their heads off! Battalion Three has completely lost face today!"
An older soldier named Li Bing, a rather cautious man, shifted uncomfortably and whispered, "Qiao Lin, keep your voice down. This is Commander Jiang's order after all... Military orders are absolute..."
