Chapter 283 Catching a Turtle in a Jar? Who is the Turtle? (2/2)

"And...it seems...it seems to have a faint smell of rust?" Gao Kai said uncertainly. "It's probably the smell of gun oil mixed with mud. It's normal for the swamp to be damp."

Su Tang nodded and didn't ask any further questions.

She stood up, patted the dirt off her hands, and looked around at the high-spirited team.

All eyes were on her, anxiously awaiting the final verdict.

Gao Kai's heart was pounding in his chest. What was Teacher Su hesitating about? If they waited any longer, it would be dawn!

Just as he was about to urge her again, Su Tang finally gave the order.

"Okay, we'll do it your way."

"Gao Kai, you take a squad of fourteen men and surround the command tent. Remember, stay alert at all times, and if there is any unusual activity, immediately find cover."

"Liu Landi, you will take seven people as the second-line reserve team and wait 200 meters outside the camp. Without my order, you are not allowed to enter the camp."

"The rest of you, follow me and find a sniper position." Su Tang's voice suddenly turned cold. "Move!"

...

Under the cover of night, Gao Kai led his squad of fourteen soldiers and once again infiltrated the camp of Battalion No. 2 like ghosts.

The roaring campfire was no longer a source of warmth; instead, it resembled enormous, malevolent eyes, illuminating their every move.

The camp was eerily quiet.

The command tent, which had been incredibly noisy just moments before, was now completely silent.

Gao Kai's heart sank lower and lower, a bad premonition and the feeling of being watched made his scalp tingle.

He gestured, and the fourteen men formed a battle formation, carefully surrounding the lifeless tent.

Gao Kai was full of suspicion, but before he could think further, he took a deep breath and prepared to lead his men to lift the tent flap and find out what was going on.

"etc!"

Beside him, Li Si, the most experienced veteran police officer, suddenly grabbed his arm.

Gao Kai was startled and looked in the direction of Li Si's trembling finger.

On the ground in front of them, a very thin steel wire, its color almost blending into the withered grass, lay silently and straight.

Tripwire!

Gao Kai broke out in a cold sweat. If he had taken another step forward... the consequences would have been unimaginable!

He immediately crouched down and examined the area closely, his pupils suddenly contracting. It wasn't a tripwire; starting from that wire, the seemingly flat grassy area ahead was actually a trap composed of even more tripwires, sharp spikes disguised in the grass, and pits covered with loose soil!

"Watch the sentry post!" Wang Jin on the other side lowered his voice, his tone filled with fear.

Gao Kai immediately raised his binoculars and aimed them at the sentry post at the entrance of the camp.

In the lens, the two sentries who had been "dozing off" were now stiffly leaning against the wall, motionless.

A night breeze blew by, and one of the sentries' hats was blown off, revealing... a face painted with burlap and paint!

It's a mannequin! A scarecrow dressed in military uniform!

A bone-chilling cold instantly shot from the soles of Gao Kai's feet straight to the top of his head!

"Retreat! Retreat quickly! It's a trap!" Gao Kai roared hoarsely, just about to order a retreat as a warning.
