A soft sound rang out, unusually clear in the quiet cafeteria.
Everyone held their breath, their hearts pounding in their throats, waiting for her reaction.
It's coming! It's almost here!
What will she choose?
Who would she accept?
Was it Gao Kai's enthusiasm or Jiang Yan's thoughtfulness?
Should one accept Gao Kai's fiery, passionate braised pork, representing absolute worship and following? Or should one accept Jiang Yan's gentle, nurturing boiled egg, representing appreciation and respect?
Gao Kai's heart skipped a beat. He instinctively straightened his back, his breathing became heavy, and his eyes were filled with tension and anticipation.
Teacher Su, you absolutely have to eat my meat! What's so great about that egg? Meat is what relieves fatigue, meat is what gives you energy!
Jiang Yan remained seated, his back ramrod straight, but his hand, resting under the table, unconsciously tightened, his knuckles turning slightly white. Beneath his composed facade, a barely perceptible hint of anticipation lingered.
Su An raised his eyes, his calm gaze first sweeping over Gao Kai on the left, who looked tense as if awaiting judgment, and then moving to Jiang Yan on the right, whose expression was composed but whose eyes held a hint of expectation.
She spoke softly, her voice not loud, yet it reached the ears of everyone present clearly.
"Thanks."
Those two words caused Gao Kai and Jiang Yan to relax simultaneously.
Gao Kai grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, and was about to say, "Teacher Su, please eat more. If you're not full, I'll get you more," when he heard Su An's next words.
However, her next words abruptly severed all ambiguous atmosphere.
"But I have hands."
As she spoke, her gaze lingered for a second on the pile of meat that Gao Kai had brought over, her expression suggestive.
Gao Kai's smile froze instantly.
I...have hands?
Does this mean... you think he's being nosy?
The jeering smiles on the faces of the police officers behind Gao Kai froze. They looked at each other, not daring to utter a sound.
Wang Jin opened his mouth, about to shout "Gao Kai is awesome," but he swallowed the rest of the sentence back, almost choking himself.
The cafeteria was deathly silent.
Everyone was stunned by this sudden turn of events.
That's it... a rejection? A rejection so... direct?
Before everyone could recover from the "public execution" of Gao Kai, Su An's gaze shifted to the other side, to the plump, white egg.
Her tone remained as calm as if she were conducting a post-battle debriefing.
"Besides, I don't like egg yolks."
For the first time, a crack appeared on Jiang Yan's composed expression.
Don't like...eating egg yolks?
