All her senses focused on one thing: the man in front of her.
The moment Su Tang looked at him, as if sensing something, the man, whose gaze was always cold and unfocused, had his sharp, hawk-like eyes, which, as they swept across the crowd, inadvertently and lightly collided with hers in mid-air.
It was a fleeting moment of connection.
It was so fast it felt like an illusion.
As Qin Ye's gaze swept over Su An's location, his eyes, which had been as still as a deep well, seemingly frozen with millennia of ice, finally rippled slightly.
The pause in that gaze was so brief, less than a tenth of a second, that no one around could perceive it.
But Qin Ye immediately spotted that familiar yet unfamiliar figure.
His breath seemed to pause for half a second at that moment.
Tangtang?
Her originally fair and jade-like skin was painted a wheat color, and her long, smooth, black hair was cut much shorter and casually tied behind her head.
She was wearing the same faded, oversized training uniform as everyone else. She stood there, looking noticeably thinner than before she came. Her slender body looked frail in the oversized uniform, making her appear incredibly pitiful.
She kept her head down, blending into the noisy crowd, trying her best to appear inconspicuous.
But Qin Ye recognized her at a glance.
It's his Tangtang.
Overwhelming longing and heartache were like a flood bursting its banks, threatening to overwhelm all his reason in an instant.
He could barely control himself; he wanted to immediately push through the crowd, walk up to her, and pull the woman he longed for into his arms tightly.
But he couldn't.
He recalled the repeated instructions given by Minister Xiao and Vice Minister Zheng before he came.
"Remember, Qin Ye, from the moment you stepped into Camp Three, you were a specially appointed instructor, and she was just one of your students, Su An. You don't know each other, you've never met before."
"This is a test for her, and also a test for you. Both of you are now in the eye of the storm; any slight misstep could lead to irreparable consequences. Your personal feelings must unconditionally submit to the needs of the mission. Can you do that?"
Qin Ye's Adam's apple bobbed with great difficulty as he forcefully suppressed the surging emotions within him.
In his unfathomable eyes, icy killing intent and burning longing intertwined and collided wildly. In the end, all emotions settled down, turning into a deep, ocean-like silence.
His gaze shifted away from Su An.
He forced his gaze to move elsewhere, as calmly and without lingering, as if it were sweeping over any other ordinary soldier.
The entire process takes no more than one second.
So fast that no one except Su An noticed anything unusual.
But Su An sensed it.
In that instant eye contact, she understood all the emotions in his eyes.
It was him.
He recognized her too.
This realization finally calmed down Su An's previous worries and anxieties, bringing them back to reality.
She lowered her eyes slightly, concealing the turbulent emotions surging within them.
