The next morning.
Qin Ye sent his operations staff officer, Li Yifeng, to visit and comfort Old Li and Su Tang.
It was ostensibly a visit of condolences, but in reality, it was an interrogation.
Li Yifeng first contacted Old Li.
When Old Li saw Li Yifeng in his military uniform, he was so excited that he almost rushed up to shake hands with him.
"Comrade PLA soldier! Oh, I've finally seen my family!"
Old Li, pulling Li Yifeng along, began his performance with snot and tears streaming down his face.
"If it weren't for you, I would have lost my life in Eagle's Sorrow Gorge long ago!"
"Especially Miss Su, she has the heart of a bodhisattva! She even got injured herself to save this old man!"
Li Yifeng scribbled notes in his notebook, nodding occasionally.
Old Li was saved by Su Tang, and Su Tang treated him extremely well on the way. He listened to everything Su Tang said.
He recounted Su Tang's account of what he had been told, word for word.
"Miss Su said she's from Shanghai and is going to Sunshine City to stay with relatives. I'm her driver. We're just ordinary people, and we were terrified when this happened!"
He remembered Su Tang's instructions perfectly, not going off on a single word.
After listening, Li Yifeng asked a few more questions, and Old Li answered them fluently, his gratitude overflowing.
"Okay, Mr. Li, you should get some rest. The organization will make arrangements."
Li Yifeng comforted Old Li for a few moments, then got up and went to Su Tang's ward.
Su Tang was leaning against the headboard, holding a copy of "Selected Works of Mao Zedong" that she had found somewhere, and reading it with great interest.
Hearing the door open, she looked up and gave a faint smile.
"Hello, PLA comrade."
Li Yifeng looked at Su Tang in front of him and thought to himself, "This girl looks gentle and weak, but she speaks quite clearly."
"Comrade, hello, I am Li Yifeng, operations staff officer of the division headquarters. I am here on behalf of the organization to learn about the situation."
Su Tang nodded in agreement: "Please ask, Staff Officer Li. I will tell you everything I know."
Her statement was largely the same as Lao Li's; both were ordinary people who encountered danger on the road and were rescued by the People's Liberation Army.
However, when describing the ordeal, she focused more on the danger she faced, her helplessness, and her gratitude for the timely arrival of the People's Liberation Army comrades.
Li Yifeng took notes while secretly observing.
Although Comrade Su Tang's face was pale, her eyes were clear and bright.
Li Yifeng asked, "Please show me your household registration booklet or work ID."
Su Tang took out her household registration booklet from her canvas bag and presented it to Li Yifeng.
Li Yifeng carefully examined the information and found that it matched the confession; the person was indeed from Shanghai.
But when he saw the name field, it read: Su Tang… Su Tang…
Li Yifeng frowned almost imperceptibly. Why did this name sound so familiar?
Where have I heard this before? Who mentioned it?
He scratched the back of his head, unable to recall for a moment.
"Comrade Su Tang, then take good care of your injuries. If you need anything, just tell the medic."
"Thank you for your concern, Staff Officer Li," Su Tang replied politely.
Li Yifeng nodded and left the ward.
He had to report the situation to the regimental commander immediately.
Meanwhile, Yan Manman found an excuse to deliver medical supplies early in the morning and went to Qin Ye's office to curry favor with him.
