Chapter 42 I...will take responsibility (2/2)

Half-asleep, Su Tang seemed to hear the door creak open slightly.

Almost instantly, her agent instincts made her open her eyes wide, her gaze clear and bright, without a trace of the drowsiness of just waking up.

Her muscles tensed instantly, like a fully drawn bow, and her ears perked up alertly.

The footsteps were very light.

A few seconds later, the bed frame sagged slightly.

A figure lay down beside her.

A faint scent, a mixture of the crisp air and soapberry, along with a barely perceptible hint of pine, lingered around my nose.

It's Qin Ye.

Su Tang didn't dare to breathe loudly anymore, and even her breathing became very soft.

Why is this guy back?

Qin Ye finished dealing with the mountain of official business in the regimental headquarters office late at night.

I read through Li Yifeng's investigation report about Su Tang again carefully.

The report was very detailed, recording Su Tang's basic situation from her journey to Shanghai.

He even personally sent an urgent telegram to Su Tang's maternal grandmother's home in Shanghai.

They then verified Su Tang's identity and her purpose in coming to Tibet through military telephone lines with Su Tang's uncle, Lin Wenbo.

Lin Wenbo answered the phone and informed him that his niece had arrived safely in Tibet and had eaten at the Qin family's house.

Lin Wenbo was both surprised and delighted on the other end of the phone, and repeatedly asked Qin Ye to take good care of Su Tang.

After a phone call, Qin Ye finally confirmed Su Tang's identity.

It was indeed his fiancée, whom he had never met before and who had appeared out of nowhere.

Thinking of Su Tang's earth-shattering words at the dinner table, "Of course I'm here to get married, Commander Qin," Qin Ye's temples throbbed.

This woman is incredibly bold.

He rubbed his temples and decided to go back to his dorm to take a shower and calm down.

I just took a cold shower in my dorm and am about to go to bed.

As a result, Zhao Meng rushed in with his hair still wet, carrying a pillow and a blanket.

"Old Qin! Help! The heating pipe in my room burst! It's like a waterfall. I'll squeeze in with you tonight!" Zhao Meng said, his face filled with grief and indignation.

Qin Ye looked at Zhao Meng and his soaking wet luggage, his brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly.

His dorm room has single beds, how can two grown men squeeze in?

"You sleep on the bed, I'll sleep on the floor," Zhao Meng said readily.

Qin Ye glanced at the cold cement ground, but ultimately said nothing, only stating:

"Never mind, you go to sleep, I'm going home."

Zhao Meng immediately beamed with joy: "That's a real friend, Lao Qin! I'll treat you to drinks tomorrow!"

Qin Ye ignored him, put on his coat, and went out.

When I returned to my room.

Qin Ye's mind was still uncontrollably replaying Su Tang's bright and beautiful face smiling at him at the dinner table.

The room was pitch black, with the curtains drawn tightly, letting in only a sliver of moonlight.

He groped his way to the bedside and, as was his habit, prepared to lift the covers and lie down.

He instinctively tried to pull the blanket, but found he couldn't budge it.

He applied more pressure to his hands.

It still won't budge.

The blanket seemed to be weighed down by something.

Qin Ye frowned, turned over, and shrank further into the blankets.

As soon as he moved, a faint scent of milk mixed with the sweet fragrance of some flowers and herbs entered his nostrils.

This taste...

He froze abruptly.

wrong!

And...and the soft, shallow breathing sounds so close at hand.

The air seemed to carry a slightly damp and warm feeling.

The breath was as soft as a feather, tickling his earlobe with each breath.

Qin Ye's mind went blank for a moment.

He sprang up from the bed like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

He was moved half a meter away in an instant, and his back slammed heavily against the cold wall.

"who?!"
