At the breakfast table, Qin Zhenbang still praised the pastries that Su Tang had brought yesterday.
"Tangtang, your pastries are really good. I've never had anything so fragrant and soft in my life."
He Shumin laughed and said, "That's right, Lao Qin even secretly ate an extra one last night!"
Su Tang smiled and said, "I'm glad Uncle Qin and Aunt He like it. If you enjoy it, I'll have my relatives in Shanghai bring you some more."
The family was chatting and laughing when they heard footsteps outside the courtyard gate.
Yan Manman dressed up carefully, her hair was combed neatly, and she even applied face cream to make her skin look fair.
She was holding an aluminum lunchbox containing red date and millet porridge that she had cooked herself early that morning.
She thought that Qin Ye had trained hard, and this porridge was the best for his stomach.
Incidentally, it also allows me to make a good impression on the elders of the Qin family and let them see how virtuous I am.
Full of anticipation, she pushed open the slightly ajar gate of the Qin family's courtyard, her face bearing a gentle smile she had practiced countless times.
"Aunt He, Uncle Qin—"
The sound stopped abruptly.
Yan Manman's smile froze on her face, as if someone had pressed the pause button.
What did she see?
At the dinner table, Su Tang sat smilingly next to He Shumin, while Qin Zhenbang listened to their conversation with a smile on his face.
The atmosphere was so harmonious, like that of a real family.
And the position where Su Tang was sitting clearly indicated that she was the future mistress of this house!
Yan Manman's heart sank to the bottom.
how so?
What's Su Tang doing here? And why is she so close to Uncle Qin and Aunt Qin?
Shouldn't she still be under observation at the military hospital?
He Shumin heard the sound and turned around to look.
Upon seeing Yan Manman, his smile faded slightly, and he merely nodded politely: "Oh, it's Manman. Is there something you need?"
This attitude, lukewarm at best, was a world apart from the enthusiasm he displayed when dealing with Su Tang.
He Shumin was incredibly perceptive; Yan Manman's little schemes hadn't been brewing for long.
Now that the future daughter-in-law is here, we have to make Yan Manman back down.
Yan Manman forced a smile and walked forward with the lunchbox in her hand.
“Aunt He, I…I heard that Commander Qin has been training hard lately, so I specially cooked some red date porridge for him to nourish his body.”
She tried to make her voice sound more natural.
He Shumin said, "Oh, thank you for your kindness. Don't go to so much trouble next time. Qin Ye doesn't like eating out."
It was a subtle way of telling her not to waste her time.
And there was no indication that he invited her to sit down and have breakfast with him.
Yan Manman felt a lump in her throat and awkwardly placed the lunchbox on the cabinet next to her.
Just then, Qin Ye returned from his morning exercise.
He had a light sheen of sweat on his forehead, and his military green vest and shorts made him look even taller and more muscular.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw Yan Manman and the familiar lunchbox she had brought. His brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
His gaze then turned to the dining table.
Su Tang was sitting there calmly, holding a bowl of porridge in her hand, sipping it slowly.
Noticing his gaze, she looked up and gave him a knowing smile.
Qin Ye's eyes instantly became somewhat complicated and difficult to understand.
When Yan Manman saw Qin Ye return, her eyes lit up and she quickly went to greet him.
"Commander Qin, you're back! I made you some porridge, drink it while it's hot!"
She wanted to take this opportunity to get closer to Qin Ye and show her thoughtfulness.
Qin Ye didn't even glance at Yan Manman, but coldly said, "No need." He then strode to the dining table and began to eat breakfast.
Seeing this, He Shumin knew that this girl had always been trying to curry favor with her son, but Qin Ye had clearly refused her countless times. However, Yan Manman still persisted, as if she couldn't understand human language.
She thought to herself that it seemed she had to make a move.
He Shumin suddenly asked at this moment:
"How did Tangtang sleep in Qin Ye's room yesterday?"
Su Tang slowly put down her bowl and wiped her mouth with a napkin.
She didn't look at Qin Ye, but turned to He Shumin, her voice clear and melodious, displaying a junior's obedience to an elder.
"Aunt He, thank you so much for your arrangements last night. The room was very tidy and the bedding was clean. I felt very safe and slept soundly until dawn."
Commander Qin's room... the bedding... he slept very well...
