Chapter 70 The Wolves Are Coming! (2/2)

Qin Ye suddenly hummed a tuneless military song. The lyrics were simple and unadorned, and the tune was off-key, but Su Tang listened with great interest, as if it were the most beautiful melody in the world.

She leaned gently against Qin Ye's broad, sturdy shoulders, softly humming along to his tune.

The atmosphere was warm and sweet, as if the whole world consisted only of the two of them and this tranquil and dazzling starry sky.

All the fatigue and daytime hustle and bustle quietly dissipated in the flickering campfire and the warmth of the people around me.

Just then—

"Awooo—!"

A mournful and long wolf howl suddenly came from the depths of the forest not far away!

Then, several more sounds!

The sounds rose and fell, breaking the stillness of the night.

Su Tang sat up almost the instant the wolf howled, her eyes suddenly sharpening as she warily looked in the direction from which the sound came.

She subtly nudged Qin Ye beside her with her elbow, lowering her voice but speaking with unusual calmness: "There seems to be something moving by the stream."

Her senses were far beyond those of ordinary people. After those wolf howls, she keenly detected a subtle rustling sound of grass and trees moving in the direction of the stream, which was definitely not as simple as the wind blowing through the grass.

Qin Ye's heart skipped a beat, and all the muscles in his body tensed up instantly, putting him into a state of high alert.

He also heard the wolf howl earlier, which was much closer and more numerous than the bluffing roar from last night! It carried a real threat!

"Quickly! Back to camp!" he said decisively, his voice steady and powerful.

The two quickly got up and returned to the makeshift shelter they had set up earlier.

Without saying a word, Qin Ye immediately added a lot of thick, dry firewood to the campfire, making the fire burn brighter and stronger.

Bright, flickering flames can, to some extent, deter nocturnal beasts.

Su Tang quickly pulled out an inconspicuous cloth bag from her precious little backpack. Inside was a specially made, potent animal-repelling powder, which she had mixed with sulfur, realgar, and some special plants with strong, pungent odors that she had exchanged from her spatial storage.

She carefully sprinkled the solution around the campsite, creating a protective circle.

"What is this?" Qin Ye asked, watching her sprinkle the yellow powder and smelling the pungent odor filling the air.

"My grandma gave it to me. She said it's a family secret recipe that can drive away snakes, insects, and wild beasts. It's really effective," Su Tang explained casually without batting an eye.

She then quietly pulled out a Browning M1906 pocket pistol from the bottom of her backpack, which she had specially exchanged for from her spatial storage before setting off.

Small and exquisite, easy to carry, and unobtrusive.

He skillfully checked the magazine, confirmed that the bullet was chambered, and then discreetly concealed the pistol into his wide sleeve...

As Qin Ye watched her series of practiced movements and her composure in the face of danger, which was even a little too calm, he felt more and more that his new wife had more and deeper secrets than he had imagined.

But right now is clearly not the time to delve into these matters; saving your life is the priority!

"Awooo—Awooo—!"

The wolf howls grew closer and more frequent, as if they were right next to my ears.

Judging from the howling sounds coming one after another, there are definitely more than just one or two wolves!
