Chapter 8: I'm Best at Pretending to be Weak to Outsmart Others (1/2)

The moment Jiang Sushuang pushed open the study door, her voice was so sharp it seemed to pierce the air.

"Su Tang! What are you doing here?"

Su Dongcheng, standing behind her, had a face so dark it seemed to drip water, his eyes fixed intently on Su Tang.

Su Tang seemed not to hear Jiang Sushuang's question and slowly turned around.

She held an open copy of the journal "Physics World" in her hand, her expression remarkably calm.

"I fiddled with the lock in my father's study a few times with a hairpin, and it opened unexpectedly."

She raised her eyes, her clear, bright eyes filled with innocence, as if it were truly an accident.

"I just wanted to come in and look for my father's belongings, to remember him by looking at them."

Su Tang gently stroked the journal cover:

“This was his favorite book, and I wanted to take it with me as a keepsake.”

Seeing her like this, Jiang Sushuang felt a lump in her throat, unable to swallow it.

That brat, she's getting bolder and bolder!

Su Tang's gaze drifted from Jiang Sushuang to Su Dongcheng almost imperceptibly.

"Oh? Uncle, what brings you here too?"

Su Dongcheng coughed lightly, trying to hide the fleeting unease in his eyes.

"Ahem, I... I came to see you. I heard you, well, you've thought it through and are preparing to go to Tibet?"

His gaze lingered on Su Tang's face, as if trying to discern something.

Su Tang smelled the cologne that Su Dongcheng wore on Jiang Sushuang.

She was absolutely certain that Jiang Sushuang and Su Dongcheng were having an affair.

The father's death was probably not as simple as it seemed.

Su Tang tilted her head slightly and gently sniffed the air.

"The cologne my uncle is wearing today has a really unique scent."

She paused, her eyes pure, as if she were genuinely just curious.

"The base notes of this face powder that my mother usually uses smell... somewhat similar."

Su Tang smiled slightly, innocent and harmless: "What a coincidence."

The air froze instantly.

Jiang Sushuang's face drained of color instantly, and her heart clenched.

What does this little bitch mean?

Could she know something about this?

Su Dongcheng's fingers tightened almost imperceptibly, his eyes behind his glasses sharpened for a moment, then quickly returned to normal.

He glanced quickly at Jiang Sushuang, who was also looking back guiltily. Their eyes met briefly before looking away, both of them feeling uneasy.

Is this girl genuinely stupid or just pretending?

Jiang Sushuang, having experienced much in life, suppressed the turmoil in her heart and forced a stiff smile onto her face.

"Tangtang, what nonsense are you talking about!"

Her voice rose a few decibels, conveying a deliberate calmness: "Don't smell these perfumes and colognes!"

"Your uncle and I have important matters to discuss. Go back to your room and don't cause trouble here."

Su Tang said "Oh" and nodded obediently, but her eyes swept lightly over Jiang Sushuang and Su Dongcheng's faces.

She turned to leave, but then stopped, as if she had suddenly remembered something.

When she turned back again, Su Tang's eyes reddened, her voice trembled with sobs, and she was on the verge of tears.

"Mother……"

"I...I'm going to marry someone from Tibet."

“My father once said that he had deposited a sum of money in the bank for me, saying it was for my education, and that he would withdraw it for me when I got married.”

"Now that my father is gone, I think... I want to go to the bank to fulfill one of his wishes."

She sniffed, tears welling up in her eyes, looking like they were about to fall, which made people's hearts soften.
