Chapter 86 These...these are two living Yama kings! (1/2)

Su Tang cut to the chase, "What's going on in this village? Why aren't you rescuing people? Why are you just staying here guarding the place?"

“It’s…it’s Brother Shan Kui!” The tall, thin man stammered out a name. “We were all from the labor camp. After the avalanche, Brother Shan Kui gathered us together.”

Qin Ye's brows furrowed instantly, and he asked in a cold voice,

Who is Shan Kui?

"He...he committed a serious crime and is being reformed in a labor camp here. He's ruthless and vicious. After the avalanche, he took advantage of the chaos to kill the guards, and then gathered us all together, saying he wanted to lead us to start our own faction!"

The tall, thin man, fearing he might die if he spoke too slowly, spoke at a rapid pace, like beans being poured out:

"Brother Shan Kui said... food is the most important thing right now, we brothers have to eat first. As for the villagers buried down there... well, we'll just have to leave it to fate..."

Su Tang's gaze grew even colder. She reached out, grabbed the tall, thin man by the collar, and pulled him close to her.

"Leave it to fate? What have you done to the other survivors in the village?"

"Ah! No...no one was killed!"

The tall, thin man was terrified by the immense strength emanating from her slender frame. This girl looked so frail, yet her grip was as strong as an iron clamp!

"Brother Shan Kui led us to seize the granary in the village ancestral hall! He... he locked the remaining dozens of surviving villagers in the ancestral hall, claiming it was for unified management, but in reality it was... it was to treat them like slaves! Anyone who wanted food had to listen to him! Anyone who disobeyed was beaten to death!"

Su Tang's heart sank.

Sure enough, after a natural disaster, there is always a man-made one.

This is no longer a simple case of taking advantage of someone's misfortune; these people have formed an organized armed force.

Turning a blind eye to death was only the first step. Once everyone was dead, the surviving villagers were tortured to the point of having no power to resist.

These people will then start digging for valuables from house to house.

They might even massacre villagers if necessary.

This is why countries usually deploy the military to suppress major disasters such as earthquakes.

This was to prevent unscrupulous individuals from profiting from the national crisis.

However, this is just a remote, ordinary Tibetan village. The Tibetans, apart from relying on animal husbandry and farming for a living, are probably not very wealthy.

But Su Tang still felt something was wrong.

"Even if a remote village has a granary, how much grain could it possibly have stored? How long could it feed more than forty of you?"

"What are you all still here for?"

"I...I don't know, Grandma!" The tall, thin man was almost crying. "How could we possibly guess what Brother Shan Kui was thinking! He only said that this village is a treasure trove, and that we should guard it well and that no one is allowed to leave!"

Su Tang's doubts deepened, but now was not the time to delve into them.

"How many of you are there? What about your weapons?"

"Forty-three... forty-three! They all... all have weapons! Shovels, sticks, machetes... and... and about ten hunting rifles that were taken from the village militia's armory!"

Shotgun!

Su Tang's gaze grew even colder. This was enough force to overwhelm an ordinary person.

Just then, the tall, thin man's shrill scream finally had an effect.

In the distance, a series of chaotic footsteps and shouts could be heard.

"Damn it! Who the hell dares to run wild on our turf!"

"That's the skinny monkey's cry! Let's go check it out!"

Seven burly men, wielding shovels and sticks, came rushing in from the direction of the village entrance, cursing and swearing.

The leader was a burly man with a menacing face, and he was holding a dark, old-fashioned hunting rifle in his hand!

His name was Yan Kuan, one of Shan Kui's most capable henchmen, known as Deputy Head Yan.

"Deputy Chief Yan! Save me!" The tall, thin man cried out as if he had seen a savior.

Yan Kuanpin led his men to the front and immediately saw Lao Hei lying on the ground and the tall, thin man with a limp. His face turned extremely sinister.

"Damn it, this is outrageous!"

He raised his eyes, his gaze falling on Qin Ye and Su Tang. When he saw Su Tang's beautiful face, which was still gorgeous even though it was covered in dust, a lewd light flashed in his eyes.

"Oh?" He pointed the gun at Su Tang and Qin Ye with ill intent.

"In this godforsaken place, there are still such pretty young women?"

He didn't take the two ragged "refugees" in front of him seriously at all.

He believed that as long as he held a gun, he was the king here.

"Little girl, if you come with me, I'll spare your lives, how about it?"

He laughed lewdly, finding the joke amusing.

Qin Ye's eyes instantly turned so cold they could drop ice shards.

A dense, tangible killing intent suddenly erupted from his body.

But before he could make a move...

Su Tang moved.

"Brother?" she asked softly, a slight smile playing on her lips. "Can you hold that gun steady?"

Yan Kuan was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter, as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world:
