He always believed that on the battlefield, no means should be spared, but he also believed that soldiers have their bottom line and honor.
However, Bai Wei's behavior has far exceeded his previous understanding of her.
He looked at Bai Wei, who had grown up in the same compound as him, yet now seemed so unfamiliar to him, and for the first time, a complex and unfathomable emotion flickered in his eyes.
The atmosphere was even colder on the female soldiers' side.
Their gazes followed the small figure being carried onto the stretcher, and many of their eyes reddened. They seemed to see themselves in her; if they were to face Bai Wei, their fate might not be much better. A chilling sense of shared fate crept into their hearts.
Bai Wei's smile froze inch by inch.
What happened?
Why is this the case?
I won! I beat that bitch to a pulp, like a dead dog! I proved my strength! Why aren't you cheering for me? Why are you looking at me like that?
I won! I beat that bitch to a pulp, like a dead dog! I proved my strength! Why...why aren't you cheering for me? Why are you looking at me like that?
She didn't understand.
Her mind was in complete chaos.
The immense joy of victory, amidst the deathly silence and disdainful gazes, was like being doused with a bucket of ice water, quickly cooling and evaporating.
In the end, all that remained was a sense of humiliation and inescapable shame that left her with nowhere to hide.
She felt like a clown performing naked on stage, but the audience didn't even bother to roll their eyes at her.
This feeling is a hundred times, a thousand times worse than when Chen Xiaocao rode on top of me and slapped me in the face!
"Su An! Liu Landi! You two, come back here!"
Just then, Lei Kuan's roar rang out again.
Su Tang and Liu Landi were about to run to the infirmary with the stretcher when they were stopped by this loud shout.
Liu Landi turned around, her eyes pleading, "Instructor, let me go see Xiaocao, she..."
"This is an assessment! It's not over yet! If you don't want to be eliminated, get back to your team!" Lei Kuan's voice was devoid of any emotion.
Su Tang pulled back Liu Landi, who was still arguing, and gently shook her head at her.
Her face was deathly pale, but her eyes were eerily calm.
She simply watched quietly as Chen Xiaocao was carried away, until the stretcher disappeared at the door of the infirmary.
Then, she turned her head and looked at Bai Wei, who was still raising her hand in a ridiculous posture in the center of the field.
That gaze was light and indifferent, like a falling snowflake devoid of warmth.
The moment Bai Wei met her gaze, she inexplicably shivered.
Su Tang withdrew her gaze, took Liu Landi's hand, and walked back to the queue without saying a word.
On the high platform.
Qin Ye took in all of this.
He saw Chen Xiaocao's resilience, Bai Wei's malice, the reactions of all the students, and even more so, Su Tang's momentary restraint, yet more terrifying than any outburst of killing intent.
His heart felt as if it were being tightly gripped by an invisible hand.
He felt sorry for the girl named Chen Xiaocao, and even more sorry for his lover who had to watch helplessly as her comrades were injured, yet had to endure it all.
His knuckles turned white from gripping the railing so tightly.
"Instructor Qin," Lei Kuan's voice came from below; he had returned to the platform, "This... Bai Wei went too far. Do you think we should..."
