Chapter 369 Get some rest and go to sleep (1/2)

Chapter 369 Get some rest and go to sleep. Wang Xiaoya was held on either side by two tall male police officers, her arms twisted behind her back, like a chick caught by an eagle, powerless to resist.

Her cries were suppressed in her throat, turning into soft, desperate sobs that faded into the distance with the footsteps and finally disappeared into the cold darkness outside the door.

An eerie silence fell over the dormitory.

The air seemed to freeze, and even breathing became cautious. The remaining female soldiers all lowered their heads, none daring to speak, much less look at Su Tang standing in the shadows.

Everyone was experiencing complex emotions.

I feel sorry for Wang Xiaoya. Although she was a bit simple-minded, she was honest and kind. It's truly pitiful that she ended up like this.

There was a sense of relief, thankful that I hadn't gotten too close to her and hadn't been implicated, but more than that, there was a nameless fear—fear of that ruthless Instructor Zhang and of this inexplicable and ambiguous charge.

"Alas, you can know a person's face but not their heart."

A cool voice, tinged with a hint of deliberate regret, broke the suffocating silence.

It is Bai Wei.

She was still standing at the door of the dormitory next door, wearing a coat. The "confusion of being just woken up" on her face had faded, replaced by an undisguised triumph.

Her gaze swept over the crowd, finally settling on Su Tang, a faint, cold smile playing on her lips.

“He usually seems like a very honest person, but who knew he was secretly stealing food and breaking into restricted areas at night… Tsk tsk, he’s really got some nerve.” She shook her head, her tone as if she were heartbroken that the Third Battalion had produced such a “scoundrel.”

After saying that, she didn't linger and turned back to her dormitory with light steps.

The atmosphere in the dormitory became even more subtle because of her words.

Some of the female soldiers who had initially felt sympathy now looked at Su Tang with a scrutinizing and distant gaze.

Yes, everyone in the camp knows that Wang Xiaoya is Su An's woman. When Wang Xiaoya got into trouble, Su An, the "big sister," didn't say a word or utter a single utterance from beginning to end.

What is this? Cold-blooded? Or did they already know the inside story and deliberately push Wang Xiaoya out to take the blame?

At this moment, the human heart becomes even more profound than the night outside the window.

Chen Xiaocao could no longer hold back; her red eyes filled with tears. She rushed to Su Tang, her thin shoulders trembling violently with emotion.

"Sister Su An, why aren't you saying anything?" She choked up, her voice filled with confusion, anxiety, and a hint of resentment that she herself didn't even realize. "Sister Xiao Ya has been taken away by them. They've framed her! Why aren't you explaining for her? You know perfectly well that!"

Liu Landi, standing at the front of the line, also looked extremely unwell. Her tightly pursed lips and clenched, white fists betrayed her inner turmoil.

Chen Xiaocao couldn't understand why Su An, who was so resourceful, chose to remain silent at the most crucial moment.

Did she just stand by and watch Wang Xiaoya be wrongly accused and taken away?

Faced with Chen Xiaocao's questions and Liu Landi's silent condemnation, Su Tang's face remained expressionless, and she did not answer.

She took a step and slowly walked to Wang Xiaoya's bed, which had been turned upside down.

Scattered on the ground were the most precious possessions of a rural girl.

A few faded changes of clothes were scattered around, along with some receipts issued by the military and a pair of brand-new insoles issued by the army. These were the ones Wang Xiaoya was reluctant to use and wanted to send back to her elderly mother who was still working in the fields.

She picked up each item one by one, and then carefully and meticulously folded them.

Su Tang folded the last piece of clothing neatly and put it back into the old wooden box. She closed the box and pushed it back to its original position under the bed.

After doing all this, she slowly stood up.

She turned around, looked at Chen Xiaocao who was in tears and at a loss, and finally spoke.

"Crying won't solve anything."

Her voice was calm, revealing neither joy nor anger, yet it possessed an irresistible calming power.

"Now, go to bed and sleep." She looked at Chen Xiaocao, then glanced at Liu Landi beside her. "Get enough rest. Tomorrow, there are more important things to do."

“But… Sister Xiaoya…” Chen Xiaocao wanted to say something more.

“I said, go to sleep,” Su Tang interrupted her.

Chen Xiaocao and Liu Landi were both stunned. They saw something in Su Tang's dark, unfathomable eyes that made their hearts tremble.

That wasn't indifference, but rather... the deepest undercurrent beneath the surface of the sea before a storm.

As if possessed, they stopped asking questions and silently climbed back into their beds.

Su Tang returned to her bed, reached out, and with a "whoosh," pulled the gray curtains shut.

The curtain fell, completely isolating her from all outside sights and sounds.

In the darkness, Su Tang slowly closed her eyes.

In the dormitory of the third female soldiers, no one could truly fall asleep.

Chen Xiaocao lay on the bed, her head covered by the blanket, her shoulders still trembling. She dared not cry out loud, afraid of disturbing others, so she could only bite the corner of the blanket tightly, letting her tears silently soak the pillow.
