Chapter 286 was truly disappointing.

When Wang Lili returned to the educated youth settlement after finishing work in the evening, her back was noticeably straighter than usual.

As soon as she entered the room, she threw the tools in her hand on the ground with a loud bang, startling Zhao Xiaoyan so much that she almost pricked her finger with the needle and thread.

"Wang Lili, be gentle!" Zhao Xiaoyan said, frowning. "These tools are for everyone to use. What if they break?"

Wang Lili ignored her, picked up the enamel mug, slammed it on the table, and said sarcastically, "Some people are just lucky, they have someone to protect them, unlike me, I can only bear it all by myself, and there's no one to reason with."

Xu Xinghe was making the bed when she heard this, she just looked up and didn't reply.

She knew Wang Lili was deliberately picking a fight, so there was no need to argue with her.

Zhao Xiaoyan couldn't stand it anymore and put down her needlework. "Lili, we're all roommates, we see each other all the time, can't we just get along well? Stop saying these sarcastic things, it's hurting our harmony."

"Warning our relationship?" Wang Lili sneered, turning to look at Zhao Xiaoyan with a mocking gaze. "Stop pretending to be a good person! Why didn't you come looking for me when I ran away that day? Now you're trying to persuade me to get along? What are you up to?"

Zhao Xiaoyan was taken aback by her retort, then her face turned red with anger. "How could I not have looked for you? Haven't I been looking for you all along? I just couldn't find you! How did you become like this? You weren't like this before!"

"What I become is none of your business!" After saying that, Wang Lili ignored Zhao Xiaoyan, picked up her change of clothes, slammed the door, and went into the bathroom.

Xu Xinghe sighed softly as she looked at Zhao Xiaoyan's aggrieved expression.

Wang Lili is now completely blinded by jealousy and is no longer listening to any advice.

When she went to sleep that night, Xu Xinghe made a point of carefully placing her ID, money, and the self-defense knife that Jiang Linchuan had given her under her pillow.

She wasn't afraid that Wang Lili would really harm her, since there were many people and eyes around in the educated youth settlement, and no matter how arrogant Wang Lili was, she wouldn't dare to go too far. But she was afraid that the other party would come up with some dirty tricks like hiding needles or mixing in furnace ash, which would be troublesome if it affected the mission.

Fortunately, the night was relatively peaceful, and Wang Lili did not cause any more trouble.

The next morning, a light rain began to fall, making it impossible to work at the forest farm. The educated youth were able to rest for a rare day.

Because they didn't get along, no one spoke, and the atmosphere in the dormitory was extremely oppressive.

Zhao Xiaoyan sewed silently, Wang Lili occasionally threw things around, and Xu Xinghe quietly read a book.

Just then, the dormitory door suddenly opened, and Zhang Qianqian walked in holding an umbrella and a small cloth bag in her hand. "Sister Li Juan, I've come to chat with you!"

"Qianqian." Xu Xinghe put down her book and quickly poured her a cup of hot water. "Why did you come over in the rain? Aren't you afraid of catching a cold?"

"It's not cold." Zhang Qianqian skipped over to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), opened her cloth bag, and took out two pink hair ties decorated with small flowers. "Sister Li Juan, I bought these before. I thought they were pretty, so I specially brought one for you. Why don't you try them on?"

Xu Xinghe took the hair tie, feeling a warmth in her heart. "Thank you, Qianqian, it looks really good."

Watching the two chatting and laughing, with pretty hair ties in their hands, Wang Lili felt her jealousy grow wildly like weeds.

Why is it that Xu Xinghe can win Zhang Qianqian's favor and have Jiang Linchuan protecting her, while she can only rely on Liu Hu and doesn't even have a nice hair tie?

The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved and unwilling she felt. So she got out of bed, grabbed her coat, and rushed out of the educated youth settlement, ignoring the rain outside.

She needs Liu Hu's comfort now, she needs someone to tell her that she is not unwanted.

Wang Lili braved the rain and ran all the way to the vicinity of the male educated youth dormitory, where she saw Liu Hu smoking under the eaves.

As soon as she walked over, Liu Hu noticed her. A hint of impatience flashed in his eyes, but he still stood up. "It's raining. What are you doing here?"

"I...I miss you." Wang Lili lowered her head, her voice tinged with grievance.

Liu Hu glanced around, his impatience replaced by desire.

He was in the prime of his life, and with nothing else to do, he naturally wouldn't refuse Wang Lili's offer.

He took Wang Lili's hand and led her into the woods not far away. "Come with me, there are too many people around here."

Deep in the woods, there is an abandoned little hut that used to be where the forest ranger lived; now only the four drafty walls remain.

Liu Hu pulled Wang Lili into the dilapidated house, closed the door behind him, and pounced on her without paying any attention to the rain on her clothes or asking if she was cold.

To him, Wang Lili was nothing more than a tool for venting his frustrations, something he could use to kill time on rainy days when he had nothing else to do. He didn't care about her grievances or needs at all.

Wang Lili leaned against the cold wall, letting Liu Hu touch her inappropriately. "Liu Hu, you like me, don't you?"

"Yeah, I like you." Liu Hu replied nonchalantly. It was just saying a few nice words; he wouldn't lose anything.

"Will you marry me in the future?" Wang Lili's eyes lit up immediately. Although her first impression of Liu Hu was not good, and their first time together was not normal, she still couldn't help but have strange thoughts about her first man.

In this unfamiliar place, wouldn't it be a good thing to have someone protect you?

Moreover, Liu Hu was the leader of the educated youth, and more importantly, he was also a city dweller who had been sent to the countryside, not a true peasant.

If she could marry him, perhaps she could leave that oppressive home and start a new life.

Liu Hu clicked his tongue, grabbed Wang Lili's chin, and kissed her.

What a spoilsport!

It's best to keep that mouth shut...
