Chapter 388 Listen to me, I'll do it.

Xu Xinghe looked at the thing in her hand, feeling utterly helpless.

She couldn't handle this excessive enthusiasm, but she had already put the things down and couldn't very well chase after them.

In the end, she could only carry the cardboard box back to her room and put it away in a corner of a cabinet.

She didn't need these exquisite face creams and lipsticks on a daily basis, nor did she want to owe anyone a favor for no reason.

After thinking it over, Xu Xinghe turned around and entered the space.

She selected two exquisite pieces of jewelry from them, intending to give them as a return gift.

After finishing these tasks, it gradually got dark.

Xu Xinghe made a simple dinner, and after eating, she sat by the window looking through her notes on medicinal herbs.

Before I knew it, the sound of rain pattering against the windowpane began. The fine raindrops made a sound as they hit the window frame.

She got up and closed the window. The rain came just in time, perfect for irrigating the medicinal herb fields.

at the same time.

On a barren mountain not far from the train station.

The night was shrouded in rain.

Several figures wearing black raincoats were carefully sawing down the old pine trees on the steep slope.

Rainwater streamed down their raincoats, blurring their figures; only the low, muffled sound of saws cutting tree trunks was mostly drowned out by the rain.

The roots of these old pine trees are deeply embedded in the soil, forming a key point for soil stabilization on this mountain.

As the tree trunk crashed to the ground, leaving a deep pit, rainwater instantly filled the hole and seeped down through the cracks in the soil.

The men in black did not stop. They took out shovels from their backpacks and dug hard at the foot of the slope, loosening the originally compacted soil. They also deliberately dug several shallow ditches to guide rainwater into the mountainside.

After doing all this, they looked up at the increasingly gloomy night sky, then quickly packed up their tools and quietly retreated along the pre-planned path, leaving only the damaged mountainside behind.

The wind and rain continued all night.

The next morning, Xu Xinghe was awakened by a loud crashing noise outside the window.

When she opened her eyes, she saw that the sky was dark and a torrential downpour was falling.

The raindrops were so dense they formed a curtain, pounding against the roof and the ground with a deafening sound.

"Oh no! The medicinal herb field!"

Last night it was just a light rain, and she thought it was fine. How did it suddenly start raining so heavily!

Xu Xinghe's heart tightened. Without even putting on a coat, she grabbed the old clothes she had been wearing while working in the corner and rushed into the rain.

The yard was already flooded, and the rain was relentlessly washing over the ground.

The tender seedlings in the medicinal herb field were beaten and bent over, their leaves covered with water droplets, and they looked like they were about to rot from being soaked.

Without thinking twice, Xu Xinghe quickly ran to the woodshed, brought out a few pieces of tarpaulin and some wooden poles, and set up a simple rain shelter in the rain.

Rainwater streamed down her old clothes, quickly soaking them through. Her hair was also wet and clung to her face, while icy rainwater flowed down her neck.

She gritted her teeth, holding onto the wooden pole with one hand and pulling the tarpaulin with the other, and finally managed to cover the entire medicinal herb field.

After doing all this, she was soaked through and her lips were turning a little purple from the cold.

Fortunately, the rescue was timely, and the medicinal herbs should be fine.

Xu Xinghe dragged her soaking wet body back into the house, quickly changed out of her wet clothes, and wrapped herself in a quilt.

It was afternoon.

Familiar footsteps came from outside the courtyard gate, accompanied by the sound of umbrellas hitting the rain.

Xu Xinghe got up and walked to the window, where she saw Jiang Linchuan carrying a large black umbrella, wading through the puddles into the yard, with a bag in his hand.

"Lin Chuan." Xu Xinghe quickly opened the door.

Jiang Linchuan strode into the house, put away his umbrella, shook off the water droplets, and found that the hem of his military green jacket was already mostly wet.

"The rain was too heavy, so the military training was suspended today. I thought you might not have much food left, so I brought you some from the canteen."

He placed the bag on the table and opened it. Inside were several pieces of meat, a bunch of green vegetables, and a few steamed buns. "Judging from the weather, it looks like this rain will last for a few days. I'll stock up on some food."

Xu Xinghe looked at the rain, somewhat worried, "Will this rain continue for several more days? If it keeps raining like this for so long, will something bad happen?"

Jiang Linchuan sat down beside her and took off his coat. "Every year around this time, there are a few heavy rains, but this kind of heavy rain won't last. It should subside by the afternoon. Don't worry, the people here are used to it, and the military will also send people to patrol the surrounding mountains and roads. Nothing will happen."

Hearing him say that, Xu Xinghe felt a little relieved. Just as she was about to say something more, her nose itched and she couldn't help but sneeze.

Jiang Linchuan's expression immediately changed, and he reached out to touch her forehead. "You're a little hot. Did you catch a cold?"

"Probably." Xu Xinghe touched herself and didn't feel very hot. "When I woke up this morning, I saw that the rain was too heavy and I was worried that the medicinal herb field would be flooded, so I didn't bother to use an umbrella. I just put on my clothes and went out. I was soaked. I changed when I came back."

"How could you be so careless!" Jiang Linchuan frowned, got up and walked towards the kitchen. "Go back to bed and lie down quickly. I'll make you some ginger soup to warm you up. Don't catch a real cold."

Xu Xinghe wanted to help, but he pressed her back onto the bed, saying, "Be good, wrap yourself in the blanket and rest. I can take care of it."

She had no choice but to lie down obediently, watching Jiang Linchuan's busy figure through the door.

The sound of boiling water came from the kitchen, and soon, a rich aroma of ginger wafted in.

Not long after, Jiang Linchuan came in carrying a bowl of steaming ginger soup with a few brown sugar crystals in it, its color bright and inviting.

"Here, drink it while it's hot." He sat on the edge of the bed, carefully helped Xu Xinghe sit up, and handed her the bowl. "It's a little hot, drink it slowly."

Xu Xinghe held the bowl, took a sip, and felt the spicy ginger flavor mixed with the sweetness of brown sugar slide down her throat, instantly warming her up.

She sipped her drink slowly, then looked up at Jiang Linchuan, who was staring intently at her.

"Drink this and then take a nap. You'll feel better after you sweat it out." Jiang Linchuan took the empty bowl and tucked the blanket around her. "I'll stay here with you. Call me anytime if you need anything."

Xu Xinghe nodded and closed her eyes.

The torrential rain outside showed no signs of abating, and the raindrops pounded loudly on the roof.

With that sound, she quickly fell asleep.
