Chapter 409 You're so thoughtful

The next morning, as agreed, Xu Xinghe put a small amount of ointment in his pocket and headed towards the guesthouse.

The door opened, and Lin Hui stood on one foot with a bitter smile on her face. "Xinghe, you've finally come! Come in and sit down. Thank you for making this special trip."

Her instep was still wrapped in gauze, and she walked with a limp, looking truly pitiful.

Xu Xinghe immediately stepped forward to support her, "Sister-in-law, it's best not to move around too much with your injury. Let me change your dressing first, so you can rest properly after that."

"Okay, okay, thank you for your trouble." Lin Hui sat down on the edge of the bed and carefully unwrapped the gauze.

After a night, the wound had stopped bleeding, but the gruesome wound was still a shocking sight.

Xu Xinghe took out ointment and clean cotton balls, and gently cleaned her wound and applied the ointment.

Lin Hui smiled gratefully throughout, saying, "Xinghe, your ointment is really effective. After applying it last night, it really didn't hurt as much, and the swelling wasn't as bad either. Thank you so much. I feel bad for always troubling you to come all this way."

While applying the medicine, Xu Xinghe replied casually, "It was nothing, sister-in-law, you're welcome."

“Speaking of which…” Lin Hui changed the subject, her gaze falling on the ointment box in Xu Xinghe’s hand, her tone somewhat tentative, “Xinghe, you see, my wound won’t heal in a day or two, and it’s not good for you to keep coming over. Could you leave some ointment with you? I can change the dressing myself at home, which will save you the trouble of coming every day.”

She was extremely anxious and wished she could snatch all the ointment from Xu Xinghe's hand immediately.

One day of the three-day deadline has already passed. If she can't get enough ointment as soon as possible, she won't be able to explain herself to her superiors.

But she didn't dare to appear too eager, so she could only suppress her anxiety, but her smile looked stiff no matter how she looked at it.

Xu Xinghe had anticipated her response and continued working, "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry, I only made enough ointment for you this time. The raw materials for this ointment are quite special, and it takes a lot of time and effort to make. I will try my best, and I should be able to give it to you in a few days."

"I see..." Lin Hui's smile froze for a moment, and the eagerness in her eyes was almost impossible to hide.

In a few days?

She simply can't wait a few days!

But seeing Xu Xinghe's calm expression, she knew that forcing the issue would be useless, so she swallowed back the words that were on the tip of her tongue and forced a smile, saying, "Okay, then I'll wait a little longer. Thank you for your hard work, Xinghe. Can you send it to me in a few days when it's ready?"

"Okay, I'll come over when it's ready." After applying the medicine and carefully wrapping the new gauze around her neck, Xu Xinghe packed her things and prepared to leave.

"Xinghe, won't you sit for a while and have some water?"

"No, sister-in-law, I have things to do in my herb garden, I need to go back and take care of them." Xu Xinghe refused and turned to walk towards the door.

Watching her figure disappear outside the door, the smile on Lin Hui's face vanished instantly, replaced by anxiety and resentment.

Xu Xinghe did it on purpose!

It's obvious they don't want to give her the ointment!

But she had no other choice; she couldn't just snatch it directly.

The wound on the back of her foot was still throbbing. Thinking about how much she had suffered but hadn't even received a little extra ointment, Lin Hui felt a tightness in her chest from anger. She lay on the bed with her eyes closed, trying to calm herself down.

On the other side, Xu Xinghe returned to the courtyard, sat on the stone bench, and couldn't help but recall Lin Hui's words and actions today.

Her words, and the way her eyes kept glancing at the ointment, revealed an unusual urgency.

She suddenly wanted to verify something: was Lin Hui's last leg injury scar really due to an accidental forgetting to take the medication, or was it because she deliberately didn't use enough?

If once can be considered a mistake, what about twice?

Xu Xinghe wasn't worried at all that her ointment would be analyzed, since it was made with exclusive medicinal herbs and secret recipes from her space.

Even if someone gets the ointment, they can't replicate it without the medicinal materials in the space.

But the transplanted seedlings in the medicinal herb field are different.

The previous medicinal herb has been successfully cultivated. If someone with ulterior motives takes the sample and cultivates it, there is no guarantee that something unexpected will happen.

She couldn't gamble; keeping it in her storage space was the safest option.

Thinking of this, Xu Xinghe immediately picked up a small shovel and went into the medicinal herb field.

She carefully dug out the medicinal herbs transplanted from the space, roots and all, gently avoiding damaging the root system, and then quickly sent them back into the space.

After finishing all this, she tidied up the medicinal herb field so that no trace of her work remained, and only then did she breathe a sigh of relief.

In the afternoon, Xu Xinghe refilled half a bottle of ointment, enough for about three days, and then headed towards the guesthouse.

She wanted to see how Lin Hui would react if she took the initiative to deliver the medicine to her door.

Upon knocking on the door, Lin Hui's eyes lit up instantly when she saw the bottle of ointment in her hand, her surprise and delight barely concealed. "Xinghe? What brings you here? You even brought ointment!"

“Your sister-in-law’s wound needs to be dressed regularly. I was worried I wouldn’t have time later, so I made some this afternoon and brought it over to you.” Xu Xinghe handed over the ointment. “This amount should be enough for you for about three days. I’ll bring you more after three days.”

"Thank you so much, Xinghe! You're so thoughtful!" Lin Hui quickly took the ointment bottle, clutching it tightly in her hand as if afraid someone would snatch it away.

Her smile was exceptionally bright, the anxiety in her eyes finally subsided, and even her attitude towards Xu Xinghe became warmer.

But this warm greeting didn't last long. Lin Hui suddenly covered her forehead and frowned. "Oh dear, I don't know what's wrong, I suddenly feel a little dizzy. I probably didn't sleep well last night. Xinghe, I'm so sorry, I need to lie down for a while, so I won't entertain you any longer. You should go back now."

Seeing that her face was indeed a little pale, Xu Xinghe didn't think much of it and nodded, "Then you should rest well, sister-in-law. I'll go back now and come back in three days."

"Okay, okay, take care!" Lin Hui said as she hurriedly escorted Xu Xinghe to the door and closed it before Xu could respond.

As soon as the door closed, the weakness on Lin Hui's face vanished instantly, replaced by an undisguised excitement.

She limped to the bedside, carefully opened the ointment bottle, brought it to her nose and smelled it. It smelled exactly the same as last time!

She immediately hid the ointment in a hidden pocket under her pillow, and the weight on her heart finally lifted.

All we have to do now is wait for the person we arranged to come and hand over the half-bottle of ointment, and we'll be done with it for now!
