In the office.
The air seemed to freeze, so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.
Jiang Linchuan sat behind his desk, pointing to an unlit cigarette between his fingers.
He never smokes, but now he needs to find a way to calm himself down.
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting dappled shadows on him, but it did nothing to dispel the chill.
Those letters were now laid out on the table.
The scars he had tried so hard to ignore were now on display again, right in front of everyone.
The door was gently pushed open.
Xu Xinghe walked in.
She took a deep breath, came to Jiang Linchuan, and without crying or blaming, she remained calm. "Jiang Linchuan, I know you didn't do it. You couldn't possibly have released these letters, and you certainly wouldn't do this to me."
Jiang Linchuan's fingers trembled as he looked up.
She was still so beautiful, standing there quietly, calmly meeting his gaze with her clear, almond-shaped eyes, so pure and clear.
Xu Xinghe took out a box and placed it in front of Jiang Linchuan. "Some people said they saw me hugging Zhou Chengmu, but that's false. I didn't touch him at all. I just wanted to knit you a pair of gloves. I didn't know how big your hands were, so I asked him to help me take your measurements. I'm going to give you a surprise later."
She opened the box.
Inside was a pair of black woolen gloves, the needles were a little crooked, but the knitting was very dense, and there was a sunflower-colored Chinese character for "river" in the corner.
"And the story about meeting a strange man at the supply and marketing cooperative is also false. I saved an old general on the train; he was his grandson. The old general is currently hospitalized in a hospital in the capital of Heilongjiang Province. His grandson came here to visit his comrade-in-arms, and that's how we happened to run into each other. As for the things he gave me, it was to thank me, nothing more. I believe you can find out the truth if you investigate."
“Yesterday, Li Xingzhou and I went out alone because he had some of my father’s belongings that I wanted to take back. But I didn’t expect him to drug me. I was so weak that I couldn’t resist and could only let him hold me like that. But when he tried to kiss me at the end, I dodged away with all my might. I don’t know if you saw it, but I still have to say it.”
Xu Xinghe laid everything out, staring intently at Jiang Linchuan. "These are all rumors, and I will clarify them. But I wrote the letter, and I said those words, and I admit it. I know I made a mistake, and the only thing I can do now is to make amends."
She leaned forward slightly, her gaze fixed firmly on Jiang Linchuan's eyes, her tone still calm, "So, do you believe me? Believe that I haven't had any improper relationships with anyone else. Believe that I haven't hidden a single word from you."
Sunlight fell on her smooth forehead, making her earnest expression even clearer.
She didn't question anyone, nor did she feign helplessness; she simply waited calmly for an answer.
Jiang Linchuan raised his head, his eyes bloodshot, his voice hoarse and tired, "I believe what you said, but I'm very tired."
He was exhausted.
He would unconsciously think about Xu Xinghe and all sorts of bad things.
He believed in Xu Xinghe, but not in himself.
Like a cowardly, insecure person who only wants to hide in the shadows.
The hurts he suffered in the past have become sharp swords, blocking his way.
If you want to escape the shadows, you have no choice but to let these swords pierce your body.
He couldn't be sure if the sword was real.
If it's true, he will be covered in wounds.
If not... he would be unharmed.
But he didn't dare to gamble.
He dared to carry out dangerous missions and risk his life, but in this one matter, he hesitated.
He shouldn't be like this... He should be like before, calmly continuing to be himself.
“I don’t need you to make amends.” Jiang Linchuan took out a wad of cash and a train ticket. “This is a ticket back to Shanghai. I’m leaving in three days. If you want to leave, then pack your bags. If you don’t want to leave, you can rent an apartment in the city, and I’ll cover all your expenses.”
Xu Xinghe looked at the train ticket, her eyes instantly reddening. Without hesitation, she picked up the ticket and tore it in half. "I won't leave! Jiang Linchuan, I want to marry you, we'll be together forever! Whether you believe me or not, I don't want to give up, I want to try again!"
"Xu Xinghe, stop making a scene." Jiang Linchuan was also in a state of confusion. "Those letters will cause you a lot of harm. It's my fault."
Even if he didn't produce these letters, they did indeed originate from him.
"You should leave. It's better for both of us."
Xu Xinghe grasped his hand, her voice firm, "I'll say it again, I'm not leaving. Jiang Linchuan, unless you carry me right now and throw me out, to a place where I'll never find you again, I absolutely will not leave!"
The wind howled past the window.
The next second.
Jiang Linchuan suddenly stood up and pulled Xu Xinghe into his arms.
Before she could react, her burning lips covered hers.
With long-suppressed emotions and an undeniable possessiveness.
Xu Xinghe's eyes widened, but she quickly realized what was happening and wrapped her arms around that firm waist.
Much later.
Jiang Linchuan finally released her, pressed his forehead against hers, his breathing heavy and his voice extremely hoarse, "I told you before, I'll only give you one chance to consider it."
He raised his hand and stroked Xu Xinghe's cheek, his calloused fingertips caressing her soft, swollen lips, his eyes dark. "I also said that if you come to provoke me again, don't even think about running away. Whether you like me or not, I will never let go, even if you hate me."
Xu Xinghe buried her face in his chest and hummed in agreement. "You should have done this a long time ago. Don't be afraid of me. You're so powerful and strong, you're the king of hell in other people's eyes, so why don't you believe in my feelings for you? Just be brave, I'll give you a future."
After saying that, she chuckled. "Don't you think I sound silly for saying that?"
Jiang Linchuan's tense body finally relaxed. He tightened his arms and hugged her even tighter, as if only in this way would she not leave, and only then would everything be real.
"No, I like it very much."
That's right.
Why doesn't he dare to be brave just once?
Xu Xinghe has said that she wants to marry him and be with him forever.
If she breaks her promise...
Looking at her blushing face, Jiang Linchuan resolved never to give her a chance to break her promise.
