When Le Yao finished washing up and showed herself, she was no longer the dirty person who reeked of a disgusting stench.
She had lost a lot of weight, becoming skin and bones, and due to prolonged lack of sunlight, she had a sickly pale complexion.
Her face was so thin it looked unrecognizable, and her almond-shaped eyes appeared exceptionally large, taking up a third of her face, making her look a bit like a big-eyed toad!
Le Yao and her mother just wanted to leave as soon as possible, so they could be presentable after washing up.
Mother Le took her and her own luggage and asked Political Commissar Li to arrange a car to take them to the train station.
They feared that things might change if they waited too long.
Ruan Yunxi drove, Political Commissar Li sat in the passenger seat, and Mother Le and Mother Gu sat in the back.
Looking at Ruan Yunxi, who could drive, Le Yao felt a mixture of jealousy and disdain: "A capitalist's daughter is a capitalist's daughter. She can even drive. Looks like she's exploited a lot of other people's hard-earned money!"
Ruan Yunxi warned, "If you don't want me to leave you in the middle of nowhere, apologize to me."
Le Yao scoffed.
Ruan Yunxi immediately slammed on the brakes.
Le Yao didn't expect her to pull this move. Her head hit the back of the chair, and she gasped in pain as a large bump appeared on her forehead.
Ruan Yunxi spoke up: "Apologize."
Knowing how arrogant Ruan Yunxi was, Le's mother signaled to Le Yao not to be stubborn at this moment, and to talk about it after they boarded the train back to Beijing.
Le Yao held back: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that to you!"
Ruan Yunxi was finally satisfied and looked at Political Commissar Li with concern: "Are you alright?"
Wearing his seatbelt, Political Commissar Li silently gripped the car's handrail, afraid she might brake suddenly again: "It's alright, you can drive!"
Ruan Yunxi smiled: "Okay, I'll definitely drive slower this time. Political Commissar, remember to give me directions so I don't get lost."
The political commissar nodded, his large hand gripping the handrail never letting go.
Mother Gu and the others were also afraid that Ruan Yunxi would deliberately do something bad, so none of them dared to say anything, for fear of angering Ruan Yunxi and causing her to deliberately brake suddenly or throw them out of the car.
After driving for about two hours, the military jeep arrived at the train station. The train station in Lian City is located in the city center. She stopped the car, and she and Political Commissar Li and the others got out. Someone brought them the tickets; it was Political Commissar Li's orderly who had come to buy the tickets in advance.
The tickets were given to Le's mother and the others; they were seated tickets.
Ms. Le complained, "Why are we only given seated tickets? It's such a long journey, who can sit still? We need sleeper berths, soft sleeper berths."
Political Commissar Li said irritably, "If you don't want to leave, then don't. You and your daughter should stay. If it weren't for Comrade Ruan's intervention, you wouldn't even have a chance to get on the train, let alone have a seat."
As a mother living under someone else's roof, she had no choice but to keep quiet.
They went up to the train platform together. Gu's mother asked several times about her youngest daughter's whereabouts, but Le's mother said impatiently, "What's the rush? I'll tell you after I get on the train."
Mrs. Gu could only wait a little longer.
Ruan Yunxi and Political Commissar Li exchanged a glance, and Political Commissar Li nodded, indicating that everything was arranged.
Ruan Yunxi calmly watched as Le's mother stalled for time.
Soon, around 3 PM, the train bound for Beijing was about to open for boarding.
Le Yao and her mother boarded the train, put their luggage on the rack, sat in two seats in a row, opened the window, and waved to Gu's mother.
Mother Gu immediately went over, waiting for her to tell her whereabouts of her youngest daughter.
Mother Le opened her mouth but said, "Let's talk about it after the car starts moving."
Mrs. Gu clenched her fist: "Don't go too far."
"You know I've gone too far all these years. Anyway, my daughter and I are already on the bus, what can you do to me? I'll tell you if I want to, and if I don't want to, you'll never know where your youngest daughter is for the rest of your life." Mrs. Le said smugly.
Le Yao watched the spectacle with a smile.
Gu's mother: "......."
Seeing Gu's mother being teased, Ruan Yunxi glanced at her watch; there was only one minute left before they had to leave.
