To celebrate Miao Huahua's successful divorce, Gu's parents asked Gu Weizhou to take them to a state-run restaurant for a nice meal.
I'll also check the airport to see if there are any flights back to Beijing today.
They wanted to go home as soon as possible.
For lunch, we had sweet and sour pork, braised pork knuckle, cold jellyfish salad, steamed sea snails, golden pomfret, and prawns.
For some reason, Ruan Yunxi used to like eating it, but now she finds it a bit fishy.
She didn't eat any seafood except for the sweet and sour pork.
Gu Weizhou peeled shrimp for her, and she ate them all herself.
Gu Weizhou asked, "If you're not feeling well, shall we go to the hospital to get checked out?"
"It's okay, I just don't want to eat. I'll have sweet and sour pork." Ruan Yunxi waved her hand.
Seeing that she wasn't vomiting or feeling nauseous, Gu's mother didn't say anything more. She knew that Gu Weizhou couldn't have a child soon because of the fact that the previous hospital director was an enemy agent, so she thought it was probably just a loss of appetite and not that she was pregnant.
Now, Gu's mother's mind is entirely on Miao Huahua. Looking at her daughter who she had lost and found again, she only wants to make it up to her.
Everyone ate their fill at the meal.
After finishing their meal, they went to the airport. Gu Weizhou and his father went to inquire about the plane tickets. There was a flight to Beijing at 3 pm today. Gu's father bought tickets for three people. They didn't need to pack anything at the family compound; their luggage was in the car.
Knowing they were going back to Beijing, Ruan Yunxi and Miao Huahua hugged each other.
Miao Huahua asked, "Sister-in-law, can you come back with me?"
Ruan Yunxi shook her head: "Don't worry, they are your own parents. Get along well with them. This is your own home. Don't be afraid. I'm going to stay with your brother in the family compound. We'll go back to Beijing when we have the chance. You can live a good life in Beijing."
Mother Gu comforted her, "Don't be afraid, that's your home. You've been stolen from for over twenty years, it's time to go home and see it."
Miao Huahua looked at the gentle and loving Mother Gu and nodded.
After watching them go through the ticket check and into the waiting hall, Ruan Yunxi waved goodbye. Once they disappeared from sight, Gu Weizhou took her hand and led her to the car. After a day out, it was time for them to go back.
In the car, Ruan Yunxi leaned back in her seat, wearing Gu Weizhou's coat, and was fast asleep.
Gu Weizhou turned his head to look at his sleeping face. He drove smoothly and chose flat roads to avoid waking his wife up.
On the way, they saw the mentally challenged family walking home to their family compound. The car sped past them, splashing them with dust.
The disheveled old woman yelled at the departing military vehicle, "So what if you drive? Be careful you don't overturn and die!"
The simpleton got tired of walking and didn't want to walk anymore: "Mom, carry me."
Looking at her nearly 180cm tall, mentally challenged son, the old woman could only coax him gently as he walked back step by step.
Carry him?
My wife doesn't have that kind of strength.
Ruan Yunxi bought dried fruit and ran into Sister-in-law Sheng and the other sisters-in-law on her way home. She told Gu Weizhou to go back first, and she stayed to talk to Sister-in-law Sheng and the others. She grabbed a handful of pine nuts and gave them to Xiao Yingtao and the others.
Sister-in-law Sheng and the others each took a handful of melon seeds, saying it was too much trouble for them. But as soon as the other sisters-in-law saw Ruan Yunxi handing out melon seeds, they had already reached out their hands.
While chatting and eating sunflower seeds, Ruan Yunxi told her about Miao Huahua's divorce from the mentally challenged man and how she had now returned to Beijing.
Of course, there's also the matter of compensating for the 600 yuan dowry.
The sisters-in-law were so angry that they had to pay back the bride price, and their family still made a profit.
Ruan Yunxi couldn't make the decision; it was Gu's parents' choice.
In order to have a peaceful divorce, we won't dwell on so many things.
If it were Ruan Yunxi, she wouldn't let her wife and her family benefit from it.
When the old woman and her family returned, they saw Ruan Yunxi and Sister-in-law Sheng huddled together. Without even asking, they knew what the old woman was gossiping about. Anyway, their family wouldn't suffer any losses. She looked at Ruan Yunxi with disdain.
