On the day the old woman's boat arrived in Lian City, Ruan Yunxi and Gu Weizhou drove to pick her up.
The old woman disembarked with large and small bags, and even had someone help her carry a cart full of luggage.
Looking at Ruan Yunxi and Gu Weizhou standing on the shore, the old woman smiled, her fatigue and hardship from the boat ride vanishing: "Yunxi!"
"Granny!" Ruan Yunxi walked over to Granny Chao, and the two hugged each other excitedly as soon as they met.
The old woman said, "Keep your movements small, don't run!"
Ruan Yunxi cried tears of joy: "You've finally come!"
"I brought you so much delicious food, why have you lost weight?" The old woman looked at Ruan Yunxi, who was noticeably thinner than during the New Year, and felt sorry for her.
"I'm having morning sickness. It's good that you're here, Grandma. I want to eat your cooking," Ruan Yunxi said coquettishly.
The nanny nodded with affection: "I'll make you something delicious."
Gu Weizhou waited until they were almost done being affectionate before speaking: "I'll put the things on the carriage. You've had a hard journey, Granny."
"It's alright, I'm still young, I'm not afraid of getting tired!" The old woman was just worried that Gu Weizhou would think she was too old to take care of Ruan Yunxi.
The nanny felt she was still young and could help take care of the baby and help with postpartum care; she was in good health!
Gu Weizhou looked at the white-haired nanny and felt a little embarrassed. The nanny was already so old, yet she still had to worry about the younger generation.
The old woman saw through his thoughts and said, "I'd be unhappy if you didn't let me come. I'm happy to be able to help take care of Yunxi!"
"Then I'll trouble you, Granny!" Gu Weizhou felt relieved.
Seeing that the old woman had brought so many things, Ruan Yunxi frowned: "Why did you bring so much? Didn't I tell you to just bring your own clothes?"
"Not much, and not heavy." The old woman was afraid that Ruan Yunxi would be unhappy, so she thought they were all things that could be used.
If she could, the old lady would love to move her entire Shanghai home here.
They weren't staying in the city today; they picked up the nanny and drove straight home to the family compound.
I originally wanted to take the nanny out to a restaurant, but she refused: "Let's go back. What's so great about going to a restaurant? I can cook better myself. Go back and settle down as soon as possible. You're pregnant, so it's best not to run around."
Since the nanny has said so, we have no choice but to go back.
The car wasn't going fast. Gu Weizhou was also mindful of the pregnant Ruan Yunxi, thinking she was some fragile thing, and wishing that someone could overtake her even on a bicycle.
Ruan Yunxi was speechless: "At this rate, when will we get to the family compound? Hurry up, just at a normal pace. Otherwise, Grandma and I will have to take the bus back!"
Gu Weizhou: "......"
As a result, the car arrived at the residential compound half an hour later than usual.
Passing by Sister Sheng's house, Little Cherry called out, "Auntie, you're back!"
"Want to come over and play?" Ruan Yunxi pinched Xiao Yingtao's little face.
Little Cherry smiled and nodded, took her hand, and followed along happily, not forgetting to say to Aunt Sheng in the kitchen, "Mommy, I'm going to Auntie's house!"
Hearing the commotion, Sister-in-law Sheng came out with a spatula: "We'll eat at my house tonight, I'll cook a lot."
Ruan Yunxi shook her head: "No need, we'll arrange it ourselves. This is my nanny. This is Sister-in-law Sheng, my best sister-in-law in the family compound!"
The old woman smiled and nodded: "Come visit us when you're all ready. We're so grateful for how you took care of Yunxi during our stay in the family compound."
Sister-in-law Sheng smiled shyly: "You're too kind, Granny. We're all the same. She's good to us and to Little Cherry."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Ruan Yunxi took Xiao Yingtao home.
Sister-in-law Sheng told us to come back for dinner after playing for a while.
Little Cherry played for a while before Sister-in-law Sheng came to call her. She then carried a bag of snacks home, including candy, melon seeds, peanuts, walnuts, and torreya nuts, all given to her by Ruan Yunxi and brought by the nanny.
As Ruan Yunxi watched the nanny and Gu Weizhou tidy up, she sat to the side, feeding the fawns with cabbage.
