Chapter 251 The Light of Technology
On the breakfast table in the early morning, Wang Ma had already set out a steaming hot breakfast, the aroma of millet porridge and the crispy fragrance of fried dough sticks mingling together.
"Eat more." Lu Jingyan put a peeled egg into Su Wantang's bowl and then served her half a bowl of porridge.
Su Wantang nodded and ate in small bites. She had slept soundly in his arms last night, and the fatigue between her brows had faded considerably.
"I'm going to the company today," Su Wantang said to him after finishing her meal.
"Okay, I'll have Qin Zheng's men follow them." Lu Jingyan didn't ask any further questions, only giving a brief instruction.
After breakfast, the two parted ways at the gate. One walked towards the jeep parked outside the yard and headed to the military base; the other got into a black sedan and drove to Haitang Technology on the outskirts of Beijing.
...
Haitang Technology, Experiment Building No. 1.
In stark contrast to the drab buildings outside, the floor here was as smooth as a mirror, and rows of brand-new imported equipment gleamed with a cold metallic sheen under the lights. Yet, the atmosphere inside the laboratory was oppressively stifling.
"No! It still doesn't work! The purity just won't go up!"
Zhou Jimin crumpled the report in his hand into a ball and paced back and forth in the laboratory in frustration. His hair was a mess, his eyes were covered with dark circles, and his white lab coat was wrinkled. He was completely devoid of his usual aloofness and arrogance, and all that remained was the frustration of being driven to the brink by a technical problem.
"Engineer Zhou, we've tried everything, from physical purification to chemical extraction, but the impurity content is still stuck at three per thousand, far from the one per ten thousand you want," a young researcher said dejectedly.
The purification of this key semiconductor material has become a major obstacle to the entire project. Without a high-purity substrate, subsequent integrated circuit design is simply a pipe dream.
Just then, the laboratory door was pushed open.
Bai Shu walked in, dressed in a smart white shirt and black trousers, wearing flat leather shoes. Her appearance immediately quieted the noise in the entire laboratory.
She glanced at the dejected expressions on everyone's faces, and finally her gaze fell on Zhou Jimin, whose eyes were red. She calmly asked, "Are you in trouble?"
"Chairman Bai!" Zhou Jimin seemed to have found his pillar of support, and rushed over with a stack of data, explaining the technical bottleneck at a rapid pace.
Bai Zhu listened patiently, then walked to the expensive analytical instrument, staring at the stagnant data line on the screen, and fell into deep thought.
In the inheritance library of the Begonia Space, ancient methods of alchemy and material purification flashed through her mind. Those seemingly mysterious techniques, stripped of their mystique, were essentially a transcendent understanding of the properties of matter.
A moment later, she turned to look at Zhou Jimin. “Engineer Zhou, I had a dream last night, a rather whimsical one, you might want to listen to it.”
Zhou Jimin was stunned, and everyone else in the lab looked confused. Was he dreaming?
Bai Zhu ignored them and said to himself, "Is it possible to add an inert catalyst in a vacuum environment and then oscillate and heat it at a specific frequency? In my dream, I saw that the impurities were 'shaken' out of the material as if by an invisible hand."
"An inert catalyst? Oscillating heating?" Zhou Jimin frowned; this completely overturned existing theories. How could an inert gas possibly have a catalytic effect? Oscillating heating was unheard of.
"It sounds like a fantasy..." he retorted instinctively.
"Then just take it as a joke," Bai Shu said with a nonchalant shrug.
"I just find it a bit interesting. By the way, I remember there's a batch of helium imported from Germany in the warehouse, right? Also, could you modify that high-frequency ultrasonic device and adjust its oscillation frequency?"
Her words sent a shiver down Zhou Jimin's spine. Yes, theory is dead, but experiment is alive! They had been trapped by fixed mindsets for far too long!
"Change it! I'll change it myself!" Zhou Jimin's eyes suddenly lit up with an amazing light. He snatched the blueprint from the person next to him and quickly sketched on the back while muttering to himself.
"Frequency...power...helium flow rate..."
The entire team seemed to be instantly activated, and under Zhou Jimin's command, they immediately took action.
Two hours later, everyone held their breath in front of the modified equipment.
Zhou Jimin personally pressed the start button, and a slight humming sound was heard. The sample inside the vacuum chamber began to vibrate at a frequency invisible to the naked eye, and at the same time, a small amount of helium was injected into it.
Time passed by, second by second.
When the data line on the analyzer started moving again and climbed upwards at a steep angle, finally coming to a steady stop at a value that everyone had been dreaming of, the entire laboratory was first deathly silent, and then burst into a deafening cheer!
"We did it! We did it!"
"My God! Ninety-nine point ninety-nine percent purity! Good heavens!"
Zhou Jimin stared intently at the number, his body trembling slightly from excessive excitement.
...
Meanwhile, in the conference room of the military region building.
Lu Jingyan held a cigarette between his fingers, but didn't light it. He looked at the latest intelligence presented by Gao Jianjun, his eyes as cold as ice.
"They contacted a marginal research group at the Beijing Institute of Physics, and an old professor at the Institute of Biology who had been marginalized."
Gao Jianjun's tone was very serious, "The price they offered was more money than those people could earn in a lifetime."
Lu Jingyan stubbed out his cigarette on the table.
“Mr. Shadow has connections and resources in Beijing. He’s not rebuilding; he’s awakening the power that has been dormant for many years.”
This game was bigger than he had imagined. Without delay, he drove directly to Old Chen's residence.
After listening to Lu Jingyan's report, Old Chen's initially relaxed expression gradually turned serious.
What you said reminds me of some old stories.
Old Chen sighed, took a picture frame from the bookshelf, and gently wiped the dust off it. Inside the frame was a spirited young man.
"His name was Lin Wei. He was the most talented person in our institute back then. In the field of nuclear physics, his ideas were ahead of everyone else. Twenty years ago, he said he was going to the Northwest for research, and then he never came back. He was never seen again, neither alive nor dead."
Old Chen's voice carried a hint of melancholy and coldness, "At the time, everyone thought it was an accident. Now that I think about it, perhaps from that time on, the 'Eagle's Nest's' black hand had already reached out to our top talents."
Just then, Mr. Chen's bodyguard knocked on the door and came in, handing over a file folder.
"Sir, it was sent by Chairman Bai of Haitang Technology."
Mr. Chen opened it with a puzzled look and pulled out a test report and a tiny silicon chip, about the size of a fingernail, in a velvet box.
When he saw the purity data on the report, even though he had seen many ups and downs in his life, his hand still trembled slightly.
"This...this is..."
"Mr. Chen, you're not mistaken." Su Wantang, who had accompanied Lu Jingyan, was already standing at the door. She had changed back into women's clothing today, and a faint smile was on her face.
"This is high-purity monocrystalline silicon that Haitang Technology has just purified."
Old Chen raised his head, looking at Su Wantang in shock, then at Lu Jingyan beside him, before finally fixing his gaze on the tiny chip.
Just moments ago we were lamenting the loss of a genius twenty years ago, and now, an even bigger surprise has come crashing down on us!
This is a technological vision that could change the fate of a nation!
...
Night falls and the city lights come on.
In the backyard of Lu Family Courtyard No. 1, the construction team sent by Meng Wan had leveled a large area of land and built a beautiful flower bed with red bricks.
Su Wantang and Lu Jingyan strolled side by side in the garden.
"I plan to transform Haitang Technology into a true technological fortress," Su Wantang said softly, looking up at the stars in the sky.
"We not only want to make semiconductors, but also communications and biopharmaceuticals. I want it to become a shield for the nation, so that those enemies hiding in the shadows can no longer easily steal our wisdom and harm our compatriots."
Lu Jingyan didn't speak, but stopped, turned to the side, and pulled her tightly into his arms. He held her hand, their fingers intertwined.
He knows everything.
Her ambition, her blueprint, and her patriotism hidden beneath the guise of business.
"I'll stay with you."
