Chapter 280 His life was given to him by her.

Chapter 280 His life was given to him by her.

In the corridor outside the ward, Gao Jianjun, holding an enamel mug, had just knocked on the door and was now leaning against the wall.

The hot water in the cup was steaming, and when he took a sip, it burned his mouth.

The door opened.

Lu Jingyan walked out, followed by a bespectacled military doctor.

Gao Jianjun put down his cup and stood at attention. "Boss."

Lu Jingyan nodded. "Thank you for your hard work."

The military doctor adjusted his glasses, holding a stack of test reports in his hand. "Brigade Commander Lu, all your indicators have returned to normal. Your heart rate, blood pressure, and liver function are all within the standard range."

He paused, then continued, "But logically speaking, given the severity of your poisoning, even with the antidote, you should still need at least half a month of rest. But you are now..."

Lu Jingyan interrupted him. "But I can run and jump now, right?"

The military doctor was stunned.

Lu Jingyan patted him on the shoulder. "You've worked hard, go back now."

The military doctor opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but Gao Jianjun stopped him.

"Alright, Lao Zhang, stop asking. You know the boss's constitution."

The military doctor shook his head, turned around, and left.

Only two people remained in the corridor.

Gao Jianjun leaned closer and whispered, "Boss, your wife really saved you!"

Lu Jingyan looked at him. "Otherwise what?"

Gao Jianjun grinned. "I knew it, your wife must be pretty capable."

Lu Jingyan didn't reply and turned to walk towards the ward.

Gao Jianjun followed behind. "Boss, how is your wife? Is she still unconscious?"

Lu Jingyan stopped. "She's awake."

Gao Jianjun breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good, that's good."

Lu Jingyan pushed open the door and entered the ward.

Su Wantang sat on the bed, and Meng Wan was combing her hair.

Meng Wan moved very gently, slowly combing her hair from the ends upwards, smoothing it out little by little.

Su Wantang had her eyes closed, and her face was still a little pale.

Lu Jingyan walked to the bedside. "Mom, let me do it."

Meng Wan looked up at him and handed him the comb. "Be gentle, don't pull it too hard."

Lu Jingyan took the comb, stood by the bed, and, imitating Meng Wan, began to comb her hair from the ends.

Su Wantang opened her eyes. "Can you?"

Lu Jingyan looked down at her. "You have to learn, even if you don't know how."

Meng Wan stood up and walked to the door. "I'll go to the kitchen and make you some nourishing soup tonight."

The door closed.

The room fell silent.

Lu Jingyan combed his hair a few times, his technique becoming increasingly smooth.

Su Wantang turned to look at him. "Does it hurt?"

Lu Jingyan was stunned for a moment. "What?"

“Your body,” Su Wantang said, “when I was applying acupuncture to you, all the meridians in your body were twitching.”

Lu Jingyan put down the comb and sat on the edge of the bed. "It doesn't hurt."

Su Wantang stared at him. "You're lying."

Lu Jingyan smiled. "It really doesn't hurt."

He reached out and took her hand. "You saved me, I'm so grateful, how could I feel pain?"

Su Wantang looked away. "Glib-tongued."

Lu Jingyan placed her hand to his lips and kissed it. "I'm telling the truth."

Su Wantang pulled her hand away. "Alright, stop being so affectionate. Hurry up and get the discharge papers done. I want to go home."

Lu Jingyan nodded. "Okay, I'll make the arrangements."

He stood up, walked to the door, and glanced back at her.

Su Wantang sat on the bed, sunlight streaming in through the window and falling on her face.

She was still so thin and so small.

Lu Jingyan suddenly felt a tightness in his chest.

He left the ward, stood in the corridor for a while, and then went to find the military doctor.

...

At 3 p.m., Lu Jingyan completed the discharge procedures.

Meng Wan packed Su Wantang's things and put them into a cloth bag.

Lu Zhenguo stood at the door, holding something wrapped in red cloth in his hand.

Su Wantang walked over. "Dad."

Lu Zhenguo handed her the items. "Take these to warm your hands."

Su Wantang opened the red cloth, revealing a hot water bottle inside.

She was stunned.

Lu Zhenguo looked away. "Your mom said your hands are cold, so she asked me to prepare these for you."

Su Wantang's nose tingled with emotion. "Thank you, Dad."

Lu Zhenguo nodded. "Let's go home."

The group went downstairs and got into the car.

The car drove out of the hospital and headed towards the military compound.

Su Wantang sat in the back row, holding a hot water bottle.

The hot water bottle was very hot, so she pressed her face against it and closed her eyes.

Lu Jingyan sat down next to her and reached out to pull her into his arms.

Su Wantang didn't struggle and leaned against his chest.

The car jolted, and she opened her eyes to see the scenery outside the window rushing past.

The trees along the roadside were bare, their branches reaching towards the sky.

She suddenly realized that it was already the end of November.

In just over a month, it will be the New Year.

Su Wantang turned to look at Lu Jingyan. "Jingyan, will you be home for Chinese New Year this year?"

Lu Jingyan looked down at her. "Yes."

Su Wantang smiled. "That's good."

Lu Jingyan pinched her cheek. "What's wrong, missed me?"

Su Wantang slapped his hand away. "I don't want to."

Lu Jingyan laughed out loud.

Meng Wan sat in the front row and glanced back at them.

Lu Zhenguo drove the car, a faint smile playing on his lips.

...

The car drove into the military compound and stopped in front of the Lu family's old house.

Grandpa Lu stood at the door, leaning on his cane, waiting.

He was wearing a gray Zhongshan suit, and his hair was neatly combed.

Lu Jingyan helped Su Wantang out of the car.

When Grandpa Lu saw Su Wantang, his eyes lit up.

"Wantang, are you feeling any better?"

Su Wantang walked over and took his arm. "Much better, Grandpa."

Grandpa Lu patted her hand. "Good, good."

He turned and walked inside. "Come on, let's go inside, it's cold outside."

Several people went into the house.

The stove was burning brightly in the living room, making the room warm and cozy.

Grandpa Lu sat in the main seat and pointed to the chair next to him.

"Wantang, sit here."

Su Wantang sat down.

Grandpa Lu looked at her and said, "Wantang, Grandpa has something to say to you."

Su Wantang nodded. "Please go ahead."

Grandpa Lu paused. "From today onwards, you're in charge of the kitchen."

Su Wantang was stunned.

Grandpa Lu continued, "What you want to eat and how you want to eat it are all up to you."

Su Wantang snapped out of her daze. "Grandpa, this..."

Grandpa Lu waved his hand. "There's nothing to say. You saved Jingyan, which means you saved our whole family."

He glanced at Lu Zhenguo and Meng Wan. "You two, do you have any objections?"

Lu Zhenguo shook his head. "No."

Meng Wan smiled. "I couldn't be happier."

Grandpa Lu was satisfied. "Then it's settled."

Su Wantang looked down at the hot water bottle in her hand.

The hot water bottle was still hot, and her palms were also hot.

Lu Jingyan sat down next to her and reached out to hold her hand.

Su Wantang looked up at him.

Lu Jingyan smiled at her.

...

Meng Wan cooked dinner.

The table was full of dishes, all of which were Su Wantang's favorites.

Braised pork belly, steamed fish, stir-fried vegetables, and a bowl of thick soup.

The soup was started by Meng Wan in the afternoon and is now steaming hot.

Su Wantang sat at the dining table, smelling the delicious aroma, and her stomach began to rumble.

Lu Jingyan heard this and laughed out loud.

Su Wantang glared at him.

Lu Jingyan ladled a bowl of soup for her and placed it in front of her. "Drink it."

Su Wantang picked up the bowl and took a sip.

The soup was delicious, and she drank more than half a bowl in one go.

Meng Wan placed a piece of braised pork on her plate. "Eat more, you're too thin."

Su Wantang nodded. "Thank you, Mom."

Grandpa Lu sat in the main seat, watching this scene, and nodded in satisfaction.

He picked up his chopsticks and took a piece of fish. "Let's eat, stop talking."

The family sat together, enjoying a hot meal.

The sky outside the window darkened, but the lights inside the room were on.

Su Wantang ate very slowly, chewing each bite carefully.

Lu Jingyan sat next to her, occasionally putting food on her plate.

Meng Wan and Lu Zhenguo exchanged a glance and both smiled.

...

After finishing her meal, Su Wantang returned to her room.

The room was spotless, and the bed was covered with freshly changed bedding.

She walked to the bedside and sat down.

The door was pushed open.

Lu Jingyan brought in a cup of hot water.

He walked to the bedside and handed her a glass of water. "Have some water."

Su Wantang took the cup and drank a few sips.

Lu Jingyan sat down next to her and put his arm around her waist.

Su Wantang leaned on his shoulder. "Jingyan, I'm so tired."

Lu Jingyan looked down at her. "Then sleep for a while."

Su Wantang shook her head. "I don't want to sleep, I want to talk to you."

Lu Jingyan pulled her into his arms. "What are you saying?"

Su Wantang was silent for a moment. "Jingyan, do you remember what you said at the hospital?"

Lu Jingyan was taken aback. "What did you say?"

Su Wantang looked up at him. "Have a baby."

Lu Jingyan's Adam's apple bobbed slightly.

Su Wantang continued, "I've thought about it for a long time, and I think... I think I can give it a try."

Lu Jingyan stared at her. "Are you sure?"

Su Wantang nodded. "Confirmed."

Lu Jingyan suddenly rolled over and pinned her to the bed.

Su Wantang was startled. "What are you doing?"

Lu Jingyan leaned down, his nose touching hers. "Say what you just said again."

Su Wantang's face flushed. "I said... I said I can have children."

Lu Jingyan's eyes lit up.

He lowered his head and kissed her lips.

Su Wantang closed her eyes and reached out to hug his neck.

Their breaths mingled, and the temperature in the room rose rapidly.

Lu Jingyan released her, his voice hoarse. "Wantang, you gave me my life."

Su Wantang opened her eyes and looked at him.

Lu Jingyan continued, "Everything I have is yours."

Su Wantang felt a lump in her throat.

She stood on tiptoe and took the initiative to kiss his lips.

Lu Jingyan paused for a moment, then deepened the kiss.

The two kissed passionately until Su Wantang was breathless before finally separating.

Su Wantang leaned against him, drawing circles on his chest with her fingers.

Lu Jingyan grasped her hand. "Stop fooling around."

Su Wantang looked up at him. "I wasn't making a scene."

Lu Jingyan rolled over and pinned her down, staring intently at her.

"Wantang, from today onwards, we must work hard towards this goal."

Su Wantang's face turned even redder.

She looked away. "Okay."

Lu Jingyan lowered his head and whispered in her ear, "Then let's begin now."

Su Wantang's eyes widened. "Now?"

Lu Jingyan laughed. "What, is that not allowed?"

Su Wantang pushed him away. "No, I haven't showered yet."

Lu Jingyan stood up and picked her up. "Then let's shower together."

Su Wantang struggled. "Put me down!"

Lu Jingyan ignored her and carried her towards the bathroom.

The door closed.

The sound of water and Su Wantang's laughter came from inside the house.
