Chapter 366 The Tenderness After the Calamity
Lu Jingyan's eyes lit up instantly.
“He kicked me,” he said, his voice full of surprise.
“Of course, he’s been kicking me every day these past few days,” Su Wantang said. “He’s probably asking why I haven’t woken up yet.”
Lu Jingyan stared at her belly for a while, then leaned over and pressed his lips against her belly, saying softly, "Baby, be good, Daddy's back."
Su Wantang's eyes reddened again. She lowered her head and looked at Lu Jingyan pressing his face against her stomach, a feeling she couldn't quite describe welling up inside her.
She almost lost him.
Almost there.
Half an hour later, Dr. Chen came to check on the patient. He pushed open the door and saw Lu Jingyan sitting on the bed, and almost dropped the medical record in his hand.
"You...you're awake?!" He rushed over, picked up the stethoscope, and was about to examine Lu Jingyan.
Lu Jingyan frowned and dodged away, "Dr. Chen, I'm fine."
"Nothing my ass!" Dr. Chen rarely swore.
"Do you even know what you looked like three days ago? I was ready to issue you a death certificate!"
After he finished speaking, he began to conduct a detailed examination on Lu Jingyan. Taking his blood pressure, listening to his heartbeat, and measuring his temperature, each step made his brows furrow even more.
After the examination, Dr. Chen stood by the bed and stared at Lu Jingyan for a long time.
“Impossible.” He shook his head. “That’s not scientific.”
"Dr. Chen..."
"Don't talk, let me sort this out." Dr. Chen interrupted him and began pacing back and forth in the ward.
“When you were brought here three days ago, you had multiple fractures, ruptured internal organs, excessive blood loss, and unknown toxins in your body. I used all the available medications, but it was only enough to keep you alive.”
He stopped and turned to look at Su Wantang. "When I let you in, tell me honestly, what did you feed him?"
Su Wantang remained expressionless: "A family secret recipe."
"A family secret recipe?" Dr. Chen's eyes widened. "What kind of family secret recipe can make a dying person sit up in just three days?"
"A secret recipe from traditional Chinese medicine," Su Wantang said calmly.
Dr. Chen stared at her for several seconds, then sighed, "Okay, I trust you. But you have to give me the prescription; I need to study it."
"No." Su Wantang refused decisively, "This is a family tradition, and it will not be passed on to outsiders."
Dr. Chen was about to say something when Lu Jingyan interrupted him.
“Dr. Chen, I’m really fine now,” he said. “Thank you for taking care of me these past few days.”
Dr. Chen looked at him and finally nodded. "Alright, since you're fine, I won't ask any more questions. But you'll have to stay in the hospital for a few more days so I can observe you further."
After he finished speaking, he glanced at Su Wantang again, his eyes full of admiration, "Miss Bai, your medical skills have truly broadened my horizons."
Su Wantang smiled but didn't say anything.
Hurried footsteps came from outside the door.
Su Wantang looked up and saw Meng Wan rushing in carrying a thermos.
Seeing her son lying in the hospital bed with his eyes open, Meng Wan immediately burst into tears.
She rushed to the bedside and grasped Lu Jingyan's other hand.
"Jingyan, you're finally awake."
Meng Wan's voice was trembling.
Lu Jingyan moved his lips, "Mom..."
Meng Wan's tears fell even harder as she turned to look at Su Wantang.
"Wantang, our Lu family owes you."
Su Wantang shook her head. "Mom, please don't say that."
Meng Wan held her hand, her palms were sweaty.
"If it weren't for you, Jingyan..." Her voice choked with emotion.
Su Wantang took her hand.
"Mom, it's good that he's alive."
Meng Wan took a deep breath and wiped away her tears.
She opened the thermos; inside was tender, stewed chicken soup.
"Jingyan, Mom made you some soup, have some."
Lu Jingyan nodded.
Meng Wan scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down, and fed it to his mouth.
Lu Jingyan took a sip and frowned slightly.
"hot……"
Meng Wan quickly blew on it again, "Mom, blow on it again."
Lu Jingyan took another sip, but this time he didn't say anything.
Meng Wan fed him spoonful by spoonful, and after feeding him about half a bowl, Lu Jingyan shook his head and refused to drink anymore.
Meng Wan didn't insist and placed the thermos on the table.
She looked at her son's pale face and felt heartbroken.
"Jingyan, this time you scared your mother to death."
Lu Jingyan's lips twitched slightly. "Mom... I'm sorry."
Meng Wan's tears fell again.
"Silly child, why are you apologizing?" She turned her head and looked at Su Wantang.
"Wantang, have some soup too."
Su Wantang shook her head and said, "Mom, I'm not hungry."
Meng Wan frowned.
"You haven't eaten properly for three days and three nights, how can you not be hungry?"
She pushed the thermos in front of Su Wantang.
"Have a drink, not just for yourself, but also for the baby in your belly."
Su Wantang glanced down at her stomach, but in the end, she still took the thermos.
She took two sips, and a warm feeling immediately welled up in her stomach.
Lu Jingyan looked at her, his eyes filled with heartache.
The door was pushed open again.
Lu Zhenguo walked in, followed by Lu Jingyuan.
When Lu Zhenguo saw his son on the hospital bed, a hint of excitement flashed across his face.
He walked to the bedside and patted Lu Jingyan on the shoulder.
"Good lad, you haven't disappointed your father."
Lu Jingyan looked at his father, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes.
"dad……"
Lu Zhenguo waved his hand, "Don't say anything, it's good that you're alive."
He turned around and looked at Su Wantang.
"Wantang, we owe you a lot this time."
Su Wantang put down the thermos and stood up.
"Dad, this is what I should do."
Lu Zhenguo stared at her for a few seconds, then nodded.
"You are a good boy."
Lu Jingyuan stood by the door, without saying a word.
He looked at Lu Jingyan on the hospital bed, then at Su Wantang, his expression complex.
After a long while, he finally stepped forward.
"elder brother."
Lu Jingyan glanced at him but didn't say anything.
Lu Jingyuan bit his lip.
"Brother, I...I've come to apologize."
He took a deep breath and turned to face Su Wantang.
"Sister-in-law, I was wrong before." His voice was deep.
"I shouldn't have acted on my own, and I shouldn't have doubted you."
Su Wantang looked at him without saying a word.
Lu Jingyuan continued, "If it weren't for you this time, my brother..."
His voice choked.
"I understand, you're not the kind of woman who only causes trouble."
He paused for a moment, then said, "You really are capable."
Su Wantang's lips curled into a faint smile.
"Good to know."
Lu Jingyuan bowed deeply.
"Sister-in-law, I'm sorry."
Su Wantang nodded and reminded him, "Don't do it again."
Lu Jingyuan straightened up, his eyes a little red.
Lu Jingyan watched this scene and a faint smile appeared on his lips.
He moved his finger, and Su Wantang immediately went over.
"What's wrong?"
Lu Jingyan's voice was very soft.
"tired……"
"Then you should go to sleep."
Lu Jingyan closed his eyes and quickly fell asleep.
The Lu family stayed for a while longer, and only left one after another after seeing that Lu Jingyan had fallen asleep.
Su Wantang was left alone in the ward again.
She sat on the edge of the bed, holding Lu Jingyan's hand.
The baby in her belly kicked again.
Su Wantang gently patted her belly.
"Baby, be good, Daddy's okay now."
For the next few days, Su Wantang stayed in the hospital room.
She personally washed Lu Jingyan's body and fed him food and medicine.
