Chapter 388 The Traitor is Brought to Justice, and His Injustice is Redressed

Su Wantang stood up, walked to the wardrobe, and took out his military uniform.

"I'll help you pack your things."

Lu Jingyan stopped her, "You're pregnant right now, don't move, I can do it myself."

Su Wantang looked at him without saying a word.

Lu Jingyan pressed her back onto the bed, saying, "Sit still, I'll come and keep you company after I'm done tidying up."

He worked quickly and packed everything in ten minutes.

After tidying up, he sat down on the edge of the bed and took her hand.

"I'll be back in three days at most."

Su Wantang nodded. "Be careful on the road."

Lu Jingyan kissed her forehead. "I'm here for you."

He carried his bag out the door, and Su Wantang saw him to the gate of the courtyard.

A night breeze blew by, and she wrapped her shawl tighter around herself.

Lu Jingyan turned around and saw her standing under the light, her belly slightly protruding.

He went back and hugged her.

"Wait for me to come back."

Su Wantang placed her hand on his back and said, "Mmm."

Lu Jingyan released her, turned around, and got into the car.

The car drove out of the compound and quickly disappeared into the night.

Meanwhile, at the Shen family...

Shen Weimin sat in his study, holding a phone in his hand.

He took a deep breath and dialed Lu Jingyan's office number.

The phone rang seven or eight times before someone answered.

"Hello?"

It was the voice of Lu Jingyan's bodyguard.

"I'm looking for Brigade Commander Lu."

"The brigade commander is not here. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Shen Weimin paused, "When will he be back?"

"I don't know. If you have something urgent, you can leave a message."

Shen Weimin gritted his teeth and said, "Tell him that I have compiled all the evidence against Zhao Dong, including the locations where he hides his things."

The guard paused for a moment, "And you are?"

"He knows who it is."

Shen Weimin hung up the phone.

He packed the prepared materials into a brown paper bag and sealed it.

Shen Qing pushed the door open and saw his appearance, so she frowned.

"Dad, what are you doing?"

Shen Weimin raised his head, "Leave yourself a way out."

Shen Qing walked over and saw the brown paper bag on the table. "What's this?"

“I will send Zhao Dong’s incriminating evidence to Lu Jingyan,” Shen Weimin said.

Shen Qing's face turned pale. "Dad, are you crazy? Aren't you just handing him leverage over us?"

Shen Weimin sneered, "Not sending it is death anyway, sending it might give us a chance to gain some initiative."

Shen Qing bit her lip, unable to speak.

Shen Weimin stood up and patted her on the shoulder.

"Qing'er, accept your fate. We can't beat the Lu family."

He went out carrying a brown paper bag, while Shen Qing stood there, tears falling from her eyes.

Abandoned factory in Gansu.

Zhao Dong stood at the factory gate, carrying an iron box.

The moonlight shone on his face, revealing the sweat on his forehead.

He took out a handkerchief, wiped his face, and took a deep breath.

Footsteps came from the darkness.

Qin Zheng emerged from the shadows, a cigarette between his fingers.

"Are you the one who has the goods?"

Zhao Dong nodded. "Mr. Chen?"

Qin Zheng flicked his cigarette ash. "Did you bring the things?"

Zhao Dong opened the iron box, and the pocket watch inside reflected the moonlight.

Qin Zheng walked over, picked up a pocket watch, and looked at it.

"Is there anything else?"

Zhao Dong pulled a notebook out of his pocket. "This contains all my records of contact with those above, including bank account details."

Qin Zheng took the notebook and flipped through two pages.

He looked up at Zhao Dong.

"You're quite frank."

Zhao Dong rubbed his hands together. "Mr. Chen, how much do you think these things are worth?"

Qin Zheng pulled out a wad of cash. "Five thousand."

Zhao Dong's eyes lit up.

Just as he reached out to take the money, blinding searchlights shone from all directions.

Zhao Dong was so dazzled that he couldn't open his eyes.

Lu Jingyan walked out from behind the factory, followed by more than a dozen soldiers armed with guns.

Zhao Dong's legs went weak, "Brigade Commander Lu..."

Lu Jingyan walked up to him and took the notebook from Qin Zheng's hand.

He flipped through a few pages, then looked up.

"Zhao Dong, you've got some nerve."

Zhao Dong knelt down with a thud, "Brigade Commander, I was wrong, I was really wrong..."

Lu Jingyan closed the notebook. "You dare touch Gao Jianjun's things?"

Zhao Dong's face turned completely pale.

He opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.

Lu Jingyan turned around. "Take him away."

Two soldiers stepped forward and lifted Zhao Dong up.

Zhao Dong struggled and shouted, "Brigade Commander, I can redeem myself through meritorious service! I know a lot of things, and I can tell you everything!"

Lu Jingyan stopped and turned around.

What do you know?

Zhao Dong, panting heavily, said, "I know who gave me the orders, and I even know their contact information..."

Lu Jingyan walked back and squatted down in front of him.

"Tell me everything, and I might consider giving you a quick death."

Zhao Dong's tears fell.

He recounted everything, including how Shen Weimin contacted him and how he gave him money.

After listening, Lu Jingyan stood up.

"take away."

The soldiers dragged Zhao Dong away, his cries echoing in the night.

Qin Zheng walked up to Lu Jingyan and asked, "Brigade Commander, what's the next step?"

Lu Jingyan looked at the night sky. "Seal off the confessions and prepare to return to the capital."

Qin Zheng nodded.

Lu Jingyan added, "Take all of Gao Jianjun's belongings back and give them to his family."

Qin Zheng saluted. "Yes."

Lu Jingyan turned and walked out, with Qin Zheng following behind.

The two walked to the factory gate, and Lu Jingyan stopped.

He looked up at the starry sky.

"Gao Jianjun, I've avenged you."

Qin Zheng stood to the side without saying a word.

Lu Jingyan took a deep breath, turned around and got into the car.

The car drove out of Anxi Town and headed towards Beijing.

Beijing, No. 1 Courtyard.

Su Wantang sat on the edge of the bed, holding a book in her hand, but she couldn't concentrate on reading a single word.

Aunt Wang brought in a bowl of warm milk. "Young Miss, have some milk. It's good for the baby."

Su Wantang took the cup and took a sip.

Wang Ma sat down by the bedside. "Don't worry, the brigade commander will definitely be alright."

Su Wantang nodded without saying anything.

Wang Ma said a few more words of comfort before leaving.

Su Wantang put down the cup and lay down on the bed.

She closed her eyes and placed her hand on her stomach.

The baby moved inside my belly.

Su Wantang's lips curled into a slight smile.

"Your father will be back soon."

She said softly.

The next afternoon, the telegraph operator knocked on the door of courtyard number 1.

"Madam Lu, your telegram."

Su Wantang took the telegram and opened it.

There were only three words on it: The matter was accomplished.

She held the telegram and let out a long sigh of relief.

Aunt Wang came over. "Miss, is it news from the brigade commander?"

Su Wantang nodded. "He said it's done."

Aunt Wang smiled, "That's good, that's good."

Su Wantang put the telegram away and turned to go back into the house.

She had just sat down when she heard someone shouting in the courtyard.

Is Mrs. Lu home?

Wang Ma went out to take a look and came back to say, "Miss, the military arts troupe has sent an invitation."

Su Wantang accepted the invitation and opened it.

The sign read: "Military Region Arts Performance, Mrs. Lu cordially invited to attend."

The signature was stamped with the seal of the military region's cultural troupe.

Su Wantang flipped the page to the back and saw the director's name: Shen Qing.

She placed the invitation on the table and tapped her fingers lightly on the surface.

Aunt Wang leaned closer, "Young Miss, this is..."

"Shen Qing is up to something."

Su Wantang said.

She looked up and gazed out the window.

As dusk fell, the lights in the courtyard came on.

Su Wantang stood up and walked to the window.

"Since she wants to play, then play with her."
