Chapter 360 The Code in the Palm

Chapter 360 The Code in the Palm

Su Wantang felt the force of Lu Jingyan's palm, and her heart skipped a beat.

That hand was beaten bloody and mangled, with broken fingers, but now it was gripping her tightly, with such force that it felt like it was trying to embed her into its bones.

She didn't struggle.

Instead, they gripped it even tighter.

Just then, she realized something was wrong.

Lu Jingyan's index finger was gently tapping the back of her hand at a very regular frequency.

one time.

Two times.

Three times.

pause.

Let's try again.

Su Wantang's breath hitched for a second.

Her mind raced, then it suddenly dawned on her—it was Morse code!

That was three months ago.

Lu Jingyan taught her how to play with this in his study, saying that if she were ever captured by the enemy, she could use it to send messages.

At the time, she laughed at him for overthinking, saying that he would never need it in his lifetime.

I never expected it would come in handy today.

Su Wantang forced herself to calm down and began to decipher what he had typed out.

Tap three times with your index finger – S.

pause.

Tap with your index finger – E.

pause.

Three more times—S.

Translated by Bai Zhu: SES... Don't be afraid.

Her eyes instantly welled up with tears.

Lu Jingyan typed another section.

This time it's even longer.

Bai Shu deciphered the text word by word: "Using a plan against a plan. Three days later. Reinforcements."

She was completely stunned.

Lu Jingyan's capture was not entirely a passive act!

He's also making plans!

Bai Zhu bit her lip, barely managing to suppress her emotions that were about to spiral out of control.

She lowered her head, pretending to be just tired and resting by the bed, but actually tapped his palm back with very light force.

one time.

pause.

Two times.

Pause again.

Wait for you.

Lu Jingyan's fingers trembled slightly.

That was a response.

Su Wantang took a deep breath, released his hand, and slowly stood up.

She walked to the door, pushed it open a crack, and said to Qin Zheng outside, "The person has been saved for now, but still needs to be observed. I need to rest."

Qin Zheng nodded. "Okay."

Bai Zhu closed the door, leaned against it, and closed her eyes.

She felt the baby in her womb kick again.

The little guy seemed to be telling her: Mom, Dad is still alive.

Su Wantang stroked her belly and said softly, "I know, baby. Let's wait for him."

She stood by the door for a while, then walked back to the bed and sat down.

Lu Jingyan's breathing had become much more stable.

I reached out and touched his forehead. His temperature was still a little high, but much better than before.

She took out several small porcelain bottles from her medical kit, opened the lids, poured out a few pills, crushed them into powder, and then mixed them with spiritual spring water to form a paste.

She carried the bowl back to the bedside, sat down, and fed Lu Jingyan little by little with a small spoon.

His Adam's apple bobbed, and he slowly swallowed.

After feeding the medicine, Su Wantang put down the bowl.

She wrung out a towel and placed it on his forehead.

Footsteps could be heard outside.

Qin Zheng peeked through the crack in the door, then closed it and said in a low voice, "Miss, Goatee is here."

Bai Zhu stood up and walked to the door.

She opened the door.

The man with the goatee stood outside, still holding his pipe.

He glanced at Bai Shu, his gaze lingering on her slightly protruding belly, his eyes flickering.

"Mr. Bai, how is he?"

Bai Shu's face remained expressionless. "His life is temporarily spared."

The man with the goatee breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good."

He glanced into the room and saw that Lu Jingyan's face had regained some color and his breathing had become steady. A hint of satisfaction flashed in his eyes.

"Mr. Bai's medical skills are indeed remarkable." The man with the goatee smiled. "Then I'll leave the rest to you."

Bai Shu nodded. "But he's too badly injured and needs to rest. No one is allowed to disturb him these next few days."

The man with the goatee frowned. "How long?"

"At least three days."

The man with the goatee paused for a few seconds, then nodded. "Okay."

He turned to leave, then turned back and squinted at Bai Shu.

"Mr. Bai, I advise you not to try anything funny."

Bai Shu sneered. "What good would it do me to play tricks? If someone dies, would you let me go?"

The man with the goatee stared at her for a few seconds, then burst into laughter.

“That makes sense.” He clapped his hands. “One-Eyed Dragon, arrange a room for Mr. Bai to rest.”

One-Eyed Dragon stepped out from the side and nodded to Bai Shu. "Mr. Bai, come with me."

Bai Shu turned to Qin Zheng and said, "You stay here. No one is allowed to go in."

Qin Zheng nodded. "Yes."

Bai Shu followed the one-eyed man outside.

The corridor was long, with stone walls on both sides and a few dim light bulbs hanging from the ceiling.

There was blood on the ground, and it hadn't dried completely.

Bai Shu's gaze swept over the bloodstains, and he silently memorized the route.

After walking for about five minutes, the one-eyed man stopped in front of an iron gate.

He pushed open the door, and inside was a small room.

The room was small, with just a bed, a table, and a chair.

A worn-out military quilt was draped over the bed.

“Mr. Bai, this is it,” said the one-eyed man. “Just let me know if you need anything.”

Bai Zhu nodded. "I need hot water and a clean towel."

The one-eyed man turned and left.

Bai Zhu entered the room and closed the door.

She leaned against the door and took a deep breath.

Then I walked to the bedside and sat down.

She took out the white jade bottle from her bosom, unscrewed the cap, poured a few drops of spiritual spring water into her palm, and then rubbed it on her forehead.

The cool spring water helped clear her mind.

She closed her eyes and began to recall the route she had just taken.

It took three turns to get here from Lu Jingyan's room.

The first turn is a left turn, the second turn is a right turn, and the third turn is a left turn again.

We passed two checkpoints in between.

Each sentry post had two burly men with guns.

Bai Zhu mentally reviewed the route, making sure she remembered it, before opening her eyes.

Footsteps could be heard outside.

One-Eyed Dragon brought in a basin of hot water and several towels.

"Mr. Bai, here are your things."

Bai Shu took it and nodded. "Thanks."

The one-eyed man turned to leave, then turned back.

"Mr. Bai, please get some rest. We still need to continue treatment for that person tomorrow."

Bai Zhu nodded. "I know."

The one-eyed man is gone.

Bai Shu heard the sound of the door being locked.

She placed the hot water on the table and wrung out a towel to wipe her face.

Then she went to the bedside and lay down.

The baby in her belly kicked again.

Bai Zhu gently patted her belly and whispered, "Baby, be good, just a few more days. We'll be able to go home soon."

...

Beijing City.

The Lu Family Compound.

When Lu Zhenguo received the call from the General Staff, his face turned ashen.

"What? Jingyuan secretly sent people to the Northwest and even clashed with the Eagle's Nest forces?"

A stern voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Comrade Lu, I shouldn't interfere in your family's affairs. But your son is currently missing, and your nephew has acted without authorization. You must give me an explanation for this!"

Lu Zhenguo took a deep breath. "Sir, I'll handle it immediately."

He hung up the phone, turned around and yelled at Lu Jingyuan, who was standing next to him, "Do you know what you've done?!"

Lu Jingyuan was pale, his lips trembling as he couldn't speak.

"I...I just wanted to save my cousin..."

"Is this what you call saving me?" Lu Zhenguo was so angry that he was trembling all over.

"You're getting him into trouble! The people at Eagle's Nest weren't even sure what direction our search was going to take, and now you've revealed all our cards to them!"

Lu Jingyuan lowered his head, not daring to speak.

Lu Zhenguo took a few deep breaths, forcing himself to calm down.

"From this moment forward, you are grounded at home! You are not allowed to go anywhere!"

Lu Jingyuan suddenly raised his head. "I..."

"No buts!" Lu Zhenguo interrupted him. "This is an order!"

Lu Jingyuan bit his lip, his eyes reddening.

He turned and walked out, but stopped at the door.

"Dad, that Bai Shu... can she really save my cousin?"

Lu Zhenguo remained silent for a few seconds.

"I don't know," he said, his voice a little hoarse, "but I can only trust her."

Lu Jingyuan didn't say anything more, pushed open the door and walked out.
