Chapter 364 Between Life and Death
"Are you ready?" he asked.
Bai Zhu nodded.
"at any time."
Just then, the door was pushed open.
Black Wolf rushed in, followed by several burly men with guns.
He saw Lu Jingyan sit up, and his expression changed drastically.
"you……"
Before he could finish speaking, Lu Jingyan suddenly jumped up.
With lightning speed, he thrust the scalpel into Black Wolf's lower back.
Black Wolf reacted extremely quickly, dodging to the side, the blade only slicing through his clothes.
But Lu Jingyan persisted, flipping the scalpel and stabbing at Black Wolf's neck again.
Black Wolf roared and swung his elbow at Lu Jingyan's chest.
Lu Jingyan took the blow head-on and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Bai Shu's eyes instantly turned red.
She pulled out a syringe that she had prepared beforehand, filled with an extremely high concentration of anesthetic.
She rushed forward and, before the black wolf could react, plunged the syringe into his neck.
Black Wolf's body stiffened for a moment.
Lu Jingyan seized the opportunity and thrust the scalpel into Black Wolf's lower back once more.
This time, the knife tip pierced his kidney precisely.
The black wolf grunted, and its massive body swayed.
Lu Jingyan used his last bit of strength to push the scalpel even deeper.
Black Wolf finally collapsed.
At the same time, Qin Zheng burst through the door.
He held the gun he had snatched from the guard and fired a burst at the burly men behind Black Wolf.
Chaos erupted in the corridor, with explosions echoing throughout.
The Fire Seed Squad has breached the defenses.
Lu Jingyan could no longer hold on and fell forward.
Bai Shu caught him steadily.
He leaned on her shoulder, inhaling her familiar fragrance.
"Got you?"
His voice was so soft that only two people could hear it.
Then, he completely lost consciousness.
......
The aftershocks of the explosion were still reverberating, and the lights throughout the base flickered on and off.
The leader of the Fire Seed Squad, "Wild Wolf," kicked open the last iron door and pointed his gun at the trembling guard inside.
He glanced around, and after confirming there was no threat, he whispered into his headset, "Sector 3 cleared. No target found."
Qin Zheng burst out from another passage, his face covered in dust and blood. He rushed to Bai Shu, panting, and said, "Miss, the east side is under control. The remaining scum won't get away."
Bai Shu held the unconscious Lu Jingyan in her arms, her bosom covered in blood. Lu Jingyan's blood.
She glanced down at him; his face was deathly pale, and his lips were completely bloodless.
"Find a stretcher." Bai Shu's voice was cold, devoid of any warmth.
Qin Zheng paused for a moment, then immediately turned around to look for it.
Wild Wolf approached and, upon seeing Lu Jingyan in Bai Shu's arms, a flicker of shock crossed his eyes. He lowered his voice and said, "Mr. Bai, Commander Lu, he..."
"Live." Bai Shu interrupted him. "Clean up the scene immediately and take all the evidence with you. I don't care what methods you use, this place must be a ruin before dawn."
The wolf swallowed hard and nodded.
He turned to his headset and ordered, "Attention everyone, proceed with the Level C cleanup plan. Two hours."
Qin Zheng ran back carrying a stretcher. Bai Shu carefully placed Lu Jingyan on it, her fingers pausing briefly at his neck.
The pulse is still beating.
It's very faint, but it's still beating.
Bai Shu breathed a sigh of relief and stood up, but suddenly her legs went weak.
Qin Zheng reacted quickly and caught her.
"Young Miss!" His voice was full of worry.
Bai Shu waved her hand, her complexion not much better than Lu Jingyan's. She looked down at her slightly protruding belly and patted it gently.
"Don't be afraid, baby," she said softly. "Daddy's still here."
The baby in the womb seemed to understand, and the previously intense fetal movements gradually subsided.
Wild Wolf directed the team members to carry the stretcher out. Bai Shu followed behind, her steps steady, but Qin Zheng noticed that her hand remained on her stomach.
When Bai Zhu reached the exit of the base, he suddenly stopped.
She turned around and looked at the underground base that had buried countless evils.
“Take Black Wolf’s body away,” she said. “And all the documents and ledgers, not a single word of them can be left behind.”
Wild Wolf responded and led a few of his team members back.
The sound of the helicopter's rotors grew closer. Bai Shu looked up at the sky; the horizon was already turning a pale white.
She turned around and looked at Lu Jingyan on the stretcher.
He was still half-dead, but Bai Shu could sense that his breathing was more stable than before.
The helicopter landed on the open ground, and the powerful airflow whipped up a cloud of yellow sand. Qin Zheng and several team members carried a stretcher and ran towards the helicopter.
Bai Shu followed behind, her steps quick, faster than a pregnant woman's.
Once on the helicopter, Bai Shu immediately knelt beside the stretcher. She took out a small bottle from her bosom, unscrewed the cap, and poured a few drops of clear liquid into her palm.
Spiritual spring water.
She placed her hand on Lu Jingyan's lips, letting the liquid seep in little by little.
Lu Jingyan's Adam's apple bobbed.
Bai Shu's eyes lit up.
He can still swallow.
She poured a few more drops, this time being even more careful.
The helicopter took off, its deafening roar drowning out everything else. Bai Shu took out scissors from his medical kit and began cutting open Lu Jingyan's clothes.
His wound reopened due to the forceful action he had just taken, and blood continued to seep out.
Bai Zhu's hands were very steady. She took out disinfectant cotton and gauze and began to clean the wound.
Qin Zheng stood to the side, looking at Bai Shu's profile. Her face was deathly pale, and her forehead was covered in sweat, but her eyes were frighteningly bright.
He suddenly remembered a sentence.
The most dangerous are often those who appear the weakest.
After treating the wound, Bai Zhu took out a small paper packet from her bosom. The packet contained brown medicinal powder that emitted a bitter smell.
She poured the powder into her palm, mixed it with spiritual spring water to form a paste, and then applied it to Lu Jingyan's wound.
The moment the powder came into contact with the wound, the bleeding stopped immediately.
Qin Zheng's eyes widened.
Bai Shu ignored him and took out silver needles, starting to insert them into Lu Jingyan's body.
One injection.
Two injections.
Three needles.
With each needle insertion, Lu Jingyan's complexion improved slightly.
By the time the seventh needle was inserted, his lips had regained some color.
Bai Shu breathed a sigh of relief, leaned against the cabin wall, and closed her eyes.
The baby in her belly kicked again.
Bai Zhu gently patted her belly and whispered, "Baby, be good, just bear with it a little longer."
It was already broad daylight when the helicopter landed at the military airfield.
The military ambulance that had been waiting there immediately drove over, and several doctors in white coats rushed onto the plane.
The leader was a middle-aged man in his fifties with gray hair and wearing gold-rimmed glasses. His expression changed when he saw Lu Jingyan on the stretcher.
"How did you get hurt like this?" His voice was full of urgency.
Bai Shu stood up, her voice cold: "Dr. Chen, can you save her?"
Dr. Chen paused for a moment, glanced at Bai Shu, and a complex emotion flashed in his eyes.
