Chapter 13 The Humiliation of a Chicken Feather

Chapter 13 The Humiliation of a Chicken Feather

Just after lunchtime, a military green jeep pulled up in front of the Su family mansion.

The car door opened, and Su Zhenhong practically tumbled out, his face flushed and his fat trembling with excitement. He followed closely behind Lu Jingyan, his face full of flattery and ingratiation.

"Jingyan, I'm entrusting the military supplies entirely to you! As long as the order comes through, the Su family will definitely..."

Lu Jingyan ignored his incessant chatter, his sharp eyes piercing through the living room and landing precisely on Su Wantang, who was gracefully descending the stairs.

She changed into a lake-blue dress, the fitted waist highlighting her stunning curves and making her skin look as white as snow and her features as beautiful as a painting.

Su Wantang's gaze met his, her eyes sparkling with a hint of cunning that only the two of them could understand.

"Are you done talking?" she asked softly.

"Mm," Lu Jingyan responded, his voice still deep, yet strangely reassuring. "Anything planned for this afternoon?"

"I need to go to the bank to take care of something," Su Wantang said naturally.

Upon hearing this, Su Zhenhong immediately interrupted, trying to assert his "fatherly" authority: "What are you going to the bank for? If you need money, just tell your father. A girl shouldn't be running around like this!"

Lu Jingyan gave him a cold look, and Su Zhenhong immediately stopped talking and shut his mouth awkwardly.

"Xiao Zhang will see you off." Lu Jingyan didn't look at Su Zhenhong again, but only said to Su Wantang, "He's waiting for you outside."

Su Wantang nodded, picked up her small handbag, and went outside.

The jeep soon came to a smooth stop in front of the most famous Huitong Bank in Shanghai.

This Western-style building is made of exquisite materials, and the two majestic stone lions at the entrance silently demonstrate its status and wealth.

The bodyguard, Xiao Zhang, opened the car door for Su Wantang and dutifully followed half a step behind her.

In the VIP reception room, a manager surnamed Wu, with a beer belly, was idly manicuring his nails. When he saw a young, excessively beautiful girl enter, his disdain was almost undisguised.

"Young man, what's the matter?" Manager Wu put down the scissors and spoke with a forced smile, not even bothering to move his body from the chair.

"I've come to pick up something," Su Wantang said calmly.

"Get your things? Which locker? Do you have an appointment? Did you bring your ID?" Manager Wu fired off a barrage of questions, his tone full of perfunctory and impatient tone, as if Su Wantang was there to waste his precious time.

Su Wantang remained silent.

She simply placed her handbag on the gleaming mahogany table, opened it, and took out two items from the wooden box inside.

A simple, antique-style brass key.

A document in a kraft paper bag, sealed with the red seal of a Shanghai notary office.

"Smack."

She placed the heavy key directly on the table in front of Manager Wu.

Manager Wu's eyelids twitched, and he glanced at it impatiently.

With just one glance, the expression on his face froze.

He recognized that key! It was the highest-level vault key of Huitong Bank, of which no more than three had been issued in the entire city of Shanghai! The holder of each key was a powerful figure who could make the city tremble!

His breath hitched, and his gaze abruptly shifted from the keys to the document.

When he saw the notary office's seal, which was a deep red, and the words "Property Custody Agreement" written in black and white on it, cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

The agreement clearly states that all property in this vault belongs to Ms. Bai Xiuzhu, Su Wantang's mother, and is temporarily held in custody by her husband, Su Zhenhong. Once Su Wantang reaches adulthood, or possesses this agreement and the token key, she may reclaim all property without any interference from the custodian.

The date on the document is eighteen years ago.

He understood perfectly well! Over the years, Su Zhenhong had treated the contents of this vault as his private property, and would occasionally take out one or two antiques to "exchange feelings" with him, from which he had also profited quite a bit.

He always thought Su Zhenhong was the owner, but who would have thought that he was just a custodian!

Now, the person in question has come knocking on our door!

If this gets out, he'll not only lose his job, he might even end up in jail!

"Miss Su... Miss Su! Look at me... I was blind to your greatness! I, I'll get it done for you right away!" He squeezed out an extremely obsequious smile from his fat face, his back was bent so low it was almost breaking, and his voice was trembling.

Su Wantang glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, her gaze icy and filled with the scrutiny typical of a capitalist, making Manager Wu's heart tremble.

"lead the way."

Su Wantang uttered two words, sparing with her words.

"Yes, yes, yes! This way please!" Manager Wu scrambled ahead to lead the way, his attitude more respectful than towards his own father.

In front of the underground vault, Manager Wu and another bank executive, their hands trembling, used their respective keys to open the alloy door, which was half a meter thick.

“Ms. Su, according to the rules, we can only deliver to this point.” Manager Wu wiped away his cold sweat and pointed to the enormous vault numbered “001” at the very back.

Su Wantang nodded and went inside alone.

She inserted the brass key that her mother had left her into the lock.

“Clatter.”

The door opened.

The golden light was so intense it was almost blinding.

Inside, gold bars were neatly stacked, all of standard size, piled up and row upon row, gleaming with a heavy, dazzling golden light under the dim light.

Next to the gold bars were a dozen or so locked pear wood boxes.

With a thought, Su Wantang unlocked the box, and the lid popped open. Inside were top-quality jadeite, mutton fat jade, and pigeon blood rubies, each piece lustrous and translucent, priceless.

In the far corner, there were several metal boxes.

Upon opening it, one finds stacks of rare, out-of-print stamps, and foreign exchange certificates—more precious than gold in that era—lying quietly inside.

This was the last inheritance her mother left her.

Su Wantang stood still and took a deep breath.

"receive."

A thought.

The golden mountains and jade sea before my eyes vanished without a trace in an instant, leaving only an empty frame.

In the Begonia Space, it was as if a golden rain had fallen.

Just then, a series of hurried and chaotic footsteps and heavy breathing came from outside the vault.

"Where are they?! Where did they go?! Don't move! Don't move at all!"

Su Zhenhong has arrived.

He had obviously received a call from Manager Wu and rushed over, his suit soaked with sweat, his hair disheveled, and his face as red as a pig's liver.

He broke through the guards' obstruction and immediately saw Su Wantang walking out of Vault No. 001, and his empty vault, which was even cleaner than his face.

"Su Wantang!"

Su Zhenhong's eyes instantly turned red, and he roared like a wild beast, "What have you done! Those are mine! My money! You wicked daughter, how dare you touch my money!"

He lunged at him like a madman.

Guard Xiao Zhang stepped forward, standing firmly in front of Su Wantang like a wall, his eyes cold and sharp.

Su Wantang didn't even glance at him.

She slowly and deliberately folded the last land deed—a row of shops in Shanghai's most bustling area—and put it into her handbag.

Then, she did something that everyone present would never forget.

Under everyone's gaze, Su Wantang took something out of the pocket of her dress.

A soft, yellow chicken feather that I don't know where it came from.

She held the chicken feather in her hand, walked to the safe, and with an almost reverent gesture, gently placed the feather in the very center.

The movements were elegant, yet carried an undercurrent of extreme humiliation.

Su Zhenhong's roar came to an abrupt halt.

He stared intently at the empty safe, at the single chicken feather trembling in the wind.

A buzzing sound went through my head, as if something had exploded.

In this life, you have no money, no face, and people even point fingers at you and say you're "not even a hair left."

This is attacking someone's spirit!

A sweet, metallic scent of blood rushed straight to the top of his head.

"Well……"

Su Zhenhong's vision went black, his eyes rolled back, and his obese body fell straight backward.

"Bang!"

A loud bang echoed through the empty vault.

"Ah! Chairman Su! Chairman Su has fainted!" Manager Wu screamed like a pig being slaughtered, and the scene instantly descended into chaos.
