Chapter 191 The "Surprise" from Mother-in-Law

Chapter 191 The "Surprise" from Mother-in-Law

Su Wantang's mind raced. What kind of person was her mother-in-law, Meng Wan? From a scholarly family, she was intelligent and elegant, judging people by their character and despising dishonest practices. She would never intentionally cause trouble for her daughter-in-law.

Therefore, this was a complete case of "good intentions gone wrong".

Meng Wan only saw Chu Yunfei's "excellent, obedient, and meticulous" surface, but she had no idea about the secret thoughts this privileged young woman had about her son. She might even be smugly pleased with herself for finding a capable helper for her son.

"Heh." Su Wantang sneered inwardly.

"Wantang? Are you listening? Why aren't you saying anything?" Meng Wan asked with concern when she didn't hear a response.

"I am here……"

As soon as Su Wantang opened her mouth, the microphone was snatched from her hand.

Lu Jingyan had appeared beside her without her noticing. He held the phone in one hand and naturally wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him.

The man's face darkened visibly; clearly, he had just overheard that Chu Yunfei had been assigned as a teaching assistant.

"Mom." He said into the microphone, his voice low and emotionless.

"Hey, Jingyan! Are you about to head out?" Meng Wan's voice was still full of laughter. "Your mom arranged a teaching assistant for you. You'd better treat that young lady well. She's very capable and will save you a lot of trouble!"

Lu Jingyan's jawline was taut. He glanced at Su Wantang, who was silently in his arms, and when he spoke again, his tone was icy and unyielding.

"Who arranged this?"

"Huh?" Meng Wan was taken aback by his sudden question.

“I don’t need a teaching assistant.” Lu Jingyan’s voice wasn’t loud, but every word carried immense weight. “Let her go back.”

Meng Wan on the other end of the phone was completely stunned. She knew her son too well; he had always been cold-hearted, but deep down he was very composed and rarely showed his emotions like this.

This tone...it's not right, it's very wrong.

"Jingyan, what's wrong? What happened to Chu Yunfei...?"

“Especially her.” Lu Jingyan interrupted directly, leaving no room for negotiation. “I said, I don’t need her.”

The resolute tone and barely concealed anger in her words...it was over. Meng Wan's heart skipped a beat; she instantly realized what was happening.

I've made a huge mistake!

She only thought about her son's adjustment to school being his first time there and wanted to find a capable student to help, without considering anything else. For Jingyan to react so strongly, this Chu Yunfei must have something going on!

"Oh dear! It's all my fault, it's all my fault!" Meng Wan's voice immediately became anxious, filled with deep regret. "Jingyan, don't be angry, Mom... Mom didn't know there was more to this than met the eye. I, I'll call the department right away, I'll go and cancel this arrangement immediately!"

At this moment, Su Wantang raised her head and shook her head at Lu Jingyan. Her peach blossom eyes were clear, without a trace of grievance or jealousy, only calm consideration.

She took the microphone back from him, her voice no longer gentle and soft as usual, but with a faint smile.

"Mom, don't listen to him. He's just shy and embarrassed to ask female classmates for help."

“You’ve arranged it exceptionally well, really. It’s Jingyan’s first time teaching, and he’s quite flustered. Having someone help him with the miscellaneous tasks will make things easier for him, allowing him to teach his lessons even better. This is a good thing.”

With just a few words, she effortlessly defused Lu Jingyan's anger into a "young people's awkwardness," and proactively offered her mother-in-law a way out.

Hearing her daughter-in-law's words on the other end of the phone, Meng Wan felt both touched and guilty.

Look, look! What an amazing daughter-in-law!

How sensible and generous!

"Wantang..." Meng Wan's voice was full of tenderness, "It's because Mom didn't think things through and made you suffer."

"Mom, what are you saying? You're just worried about Jingyan, and it's for his own good. I'm overjoyed." Su Wantang chuckled. "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on Teacher Lu for you. Alright, you go ahead and get busy, we need to head out now."

After hanging up the phone, silence returned to the living room.

Lu Jingyan looked at her, his brows furrowed, clearly extremely puzzled and dissatisfied with her decision.

"Why?"

"Why should you agree?" he asked, his voice still laced with anger.

Su Wantang stood on tiptoe, stretched out her fingers, and gently smoothed out his furrowed brows.

"Commander Lu, are you stupid?" She glared at him, but her tone was gentle. "Mom meant well. If you keep arguing back so bluntly, won't you make things difficult for her? If word gets out, people will think I, Su Wantang, am a jealous woman who can't tolerate anyone."

"I don't care what others think," Lu Jingyan said in a muffled voice.

"I care." Su Wantang cupped his face and looked earnestly into his eyes. "I don't want anyone, or any reason, to criticize our relationship. I especially don't want Mom to hold a grudge against me because of this."

She paused, a sly glint in her eyes.

"Besides, it's better to guide than to block. The more you push her away, the more Mom will probably think that there was something between you two in the past, and that you're just feeling guilty. We might as well openly bring her over and put her under our watchful eyes."

"I'd like to see what tricks she's up to."

"If she behaves herself, that's best. If she doesn't..." Su Wantang's lips curled into a cold smile, "That's perfect, I'll settle both the old and new scores with her."

It's better to lure the snake out of its hole than to guard against thieves for a thousand days.

Lu Jingyan stared at her intently, watching the confidence and composure gleaming in her bright eyes. The rage in his heart was slowly replaced by a more intense emotion.

She has her own claws, sharp yet elegant.

He was persuaded.

However, reason is reason, and emotion is emotion.

A man's possessiveness still needs an outlet.

Just as Su Wantang was about to get him his coat, Lu Jingyan suddenly stretched out his long arm, picked her up horizontally, walked a few steps to the entrance, and pressed her heavily against the cold wall.

“Lu Jingyan, you…”

The rest of her words were cut off by an extremely aggressive kiss.

He only loosened his grip slightly when Su Wantang was so weak from the kisses that she could barely breathe. His forehead pressed against hers, his hot breath spraying onto her face, his eyes dark and deep.

"Remember this, you are mine."

"From the inside out, from the hair to the toes, it's all mine."

Su Wantang was amused by his childish yet domineering manner and gave him a soft punch.

"Understood, Lu Sansui."

Lu Jingyan was not satisfied. He lowered his head and pecked her lips, which were swollen from being kissed, again.

"Wait for me to come back tonight."

He lowered his voice, his husky tone possessing a deadly sexiness.

"I'll give you... a private lesson."

...

Meanwhile, at the faculty office building of Kyoto University.

Chu Yunfei was standing in front of the mirror, carefully adjusting her clothes.

She wore a brand-new white shirt today, made of fine fabric that perfectly accentuated her slender figure, especially her alluring curves. She paired it with army green trousers, which beautifully highlighted her long, straight legs.

She neatly tied her long, black hair into a high ponytail, revealing her smooth, full forehead. She looked dashing and full of youthful energy.

The girl in the mirror had an irrepressible joy and a confident glow on her face.

When Professor Meng Wan personally approached her and asked her to serve as Lu Jingyan's teaching assistant, she could hardly believe her ears.

This is like a windfall!

She knows Lu Jingyan is married, so what?

In her view, a pampered young lady raised in a greenhouse was simply not worthy of a battlefield warrior like Lu Jingyan. Their worlds were completely different.

But she was different.

She and he were from the same world. They shared a common language and common pursuits.

She believed that those who were close to the water had an advantage.

Given a chance, a chance to stand openly by his side, she is absolutely confident that she can show him who is the most suitable woman for him.
