Chapter 287 Bai Shu's Anonymous Request

Chapter 287 Bai Shu's Anonymous Request

Su Wantang woke up very early.

She sat by the window, holding a teacup in her hand. The tea had gone cold, but she didn't drink it.

Lu Jingyan came out of the bathroom and saw her staring blankly out the window. He walked over and hugged her from behind.

"What are you thinking about now?"

Su Wantang leaned against him and said, "I need to see Zhang Lan."

Lu Jingyan lowered his head and kissed the top of her head. "What do you plan to do?"

“I can’t meet her as Su Wantang.” Su Wantang put down her teacup. “I have to use Bai Shu’s identity.”

Lu Jingyan was silent for a few seconds. "You want Gao Jianjun to be the middleman?"

“Hmm.” Su Wantang turned around and looked up at him. “Qin Zheng said yesterday that Zhang Lan is his distant cousin, and this relationship can be used.”

Lu Jingyan thought for a moment, "Okay, I'll go and call him over."

Half an hour later, Gao Jianjun knocked on the study door.

"Sister-in-law, you were looking for me?"

Su Wantang sat behind her desk, looked up at him, and said, "I've heard about your cousin Zhang Lan."

Gao Jianjun was stunned for a moment, "How did your sister-in-law know...?"

“Qin Zheng investigated this,” Su Wantang interrupted him. “I need your help.”

Gao Jianjun immediately stood up straight. "Sister-in-law, you speak."

Su Wantang took out an oil paper package from the drawer and pushed it in front of him, "This is the medicine I prepared. Take it to Zhang Lan."

Gao Jianjun looked down at the packet of medicine, then looked up at Su Wantang, "Sister-in-law, this medicine..."

"It's for conditioning the body," Su Wantang said casually, "but you can't say it was given to you by me."

Gao Jianjun was even more confused. "Then I'll ask who gave it to me?"

“Just say that you know a miracle doctor named Bai.” Su Wantang leaned back in her chair. “This Mr. Bai doesn’t act rashly, but after hearing about their story, he’s willing to give it a try.”

Gao Jianjun opened his mouth, "Mr. Bai?"

“Yes.” Su Wantang looked at him. “Just say that Mr. Bai has one condition: during the treatment, he must completely follow the arrangements, not reveal his identity to the outside world, and not ask about his background.”

Gao Jianjun scratched his head. "Sister-in-law, will this work?"

“Just do as I say.” Su Wantang stood up and walked to the window. “Also, this medicine is only for Zhang Lan. I have other arrangements for her husband’s problem.”

Gao Jianjun took the medicine packet, hesitated for a moment, and said, "Sister-in-law, my cousin-in-law, Li Yong, has a bad temper..."

“I know.” Su Wantang turned around. “Because his leg is crippled, he has a knot in his heart, so he pushes all the blame onto Zhang Lan.”

Gao Jianjun nodded, "That's right, he argues with my cousin every day now, and insists on getting a divorce."

“Then we should hurry up.” Su Wantang walked back to her desk, picked up a pen and wrote a few lines on a piece of paper. “This is the prescription for the medicinal bath. Give it to them as well.”

Gao Jianjun took the prescription, glanced at it, and saw that it was full of names of medicinal herbs, none of which he recognized.

"Sister-in-law, what if Li Yong doesn't believe us?"

"If you don't believe me, then so be it." Su Wantang sat down and picked up her teacup. "I'm giving them a chance; whether they seize it or not is their business."

Gao Jianjun carefully put away the medicine packet and prescription. "Shall I go now?"

"Go ahead." Su Wantang took a sip of tea. "Remember, you're just a messenger, don't say too much."

"yes!"

Gao Jianjun walked to the door, then turned back, "Sister-in-law, can you really cure my cousin?"

Su Wantang looked up at him and said, "You'll find out in seven days."

After Gao Jianjun left, Lu Jingyan came in from outside the door.

"He went?"

"Hmm." Su Wantang put down her teacup. "Now it's up to Zhang Lan's fate."

Lu Jingyan walked over, pulled her up from the chair, and hugged her. "Are you tired?"

"I'm not tired." Su Wantang leaned against his chest. "I just wanted to prove something."

"What's up?"

"Just because the hospital says it's not possible doesn't mean it really is not possible."

Lu Jingyan lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "You can do it."

On the other side, Gao Jianjun rode his bicycle all the way to Zhang Lan's house.

Zhang Lan lived in a tenement building in Dongcheng District, Beijing. On the sixth floor, Gao Jianjun was panting heavily when he climbed up.

Before I even knocked, I could hear arguing coming from inside.

"Li Yong, are you even human?! You're the one who's sick, why are you blaming me for it?!"

"I'm sick? I went to the hospital for a checkup, and the doctor said I'm fine!"

"Bullshit! The doctor clearly said that you're not good at that!"

"Try saying that again!"

"I told you so! You're no good, and that's that!"

Bang--

There was a muffled thud, like something hitting the wall.

Gao Jianjun frowned and raised his hand to knock on the door.

The sounds inside stopped.

The door opened, and Zhang Lan stood in the doorway, her eyes red and swollen, her hair disheveled.

"cousin?"

Gao Jianjun looked at her, his heart aching, "Lanzi, what's wrong with you..."

Zhang Lan lowered her head. "It's nothing. Why are you here?"

Gao Jianjun glanced into the room and saw Li Yong sitting on the sofa, his face ashen.

"I've come to see you because I need something."

Li Yong sneered, "What's up? Are you here again to try and stop us from getting a divorce?"

Gao Jianjun walked into the house and closed the door. "I'm not here to persuade you."

Li Yong looked up at him and asked, "Then what are you doing here?"

Gao Jianjun took out a medicine packet and prescription from his pocket and placed them on the table. "I know a Mr. Bai who is very skilled in medicine."

Li Yong stared at the things on the table. "Mr. Bai? Which Mr. Bai?"

“Never mind who it is.” Gao Jianjun sat down. “This Mr. Bai heard about your situation and is willing to give it a try.”

Li Yong laughed, a very unpleasant laugh. "Try it? Do you think I'm stupid? There are plenty of scammers these days."

"Why would I lie to you?" Gao Jianjun frowned. "If you don't believe me, that's fine too."

Zhang Lan walked over and picked up the medicine packet on the table. "Cousin, this medicine..."

"This is what Mr. Bai prescribed for you," Gao Jianjun said, pointing to the prescription. "This is the prescription for a medicinal bath. Just boil it according to what's written on it and soak in it once a day."

Zhang Lan's eyes lit up. "Can it really be cured?"

“Mr. Bai said it will be effective in seven days.” Gao Jianjun stood up. “But there is one condition: you must completely follow the arrangements, you cannot tell anyone, and you cannot inquire about Mr. Bai’s background.”

Li Yong sneered, "Quite mysterious."

Gao Jianjun turned to look at him, "Li Yong, believe it or not is up to you, but Lanzi is my cousin, I won't harm her."

Li Yong remained silent.

Zhang Lan grasped Gao Jianjun's hand, "Cousin, I believe you."

She turned to look at Li Yong, "Just consider this one last try, okay?"

Li Yong stared at the medicine packet on the table and remained silent for a long time. "If it doesn't work after seven days, this marriage must end."

Tears streamed down Zhang Lan's face. "Okay."

Gao Jianjun breathed a sigh of relief. "Then I'll be going. I'll come back in seven days."

He walked to the door, turned back to look at Li Yong, and said, "Li Yong, you are my comrade-in-arms, I don't want to see you like this."

Li Yong didn't look up.

Gao Jianjun left the house and went downstairs, his heart heavy.

He rode his bicycle and headed towards the military compound.

When he arrived at the door, he saw a black sedan parked on the side of the road.

The car door opened, and Su Wantang got out of the car.

She wore a black dress, her hair was up, and she wore sunglasses, making her look aloof and cold.

"Sister-in-law." Gao Jianjun walked over.

Su Wantang took off her sunglasses. "How is it?"

“Li Yong didn’t quite believe it, but Zhang Lan was willing to try.” Gao Jianjun paused. “Li Yong said that if it didn’t work in seven days, they would get a divorce.”

Su Wantang nodded, "I understand."

She turned around, got into the car, and sat in the back seat.

Gao Jianjun stood outside the car, looking at her, and asked, "Sister-in-law, do you think this will work out?"

Su Wantang looked at him through the car window, "You'll know in seven days."

The car started and drove away.

Gao Jianjun stood there, watching the car drive away, feeling a mix of emotions he couldn't quite describe.

Inside the car, Su Wantang leaned back in her seat with her eyes closed.

Lu Jingyan sat down next to her and took her hand. "Are you tired?"

"I'm not tired." Su Wantang opened her eyes. "I was just thinking, if Zhang Lan gets better, will Li Yong regret it?"

Lu Jingyan smiled. "He definitely will."

Su Wantang turned to look at him, "How did you know?"

“Because that’s how men are,” Lu Jingyan said calmly. “When they can’t get something, they complain about it, but when they actually lose it, they regret it.”

Su Wantang leaned on his shoulder, "Have you ever regretted it?"

Lu Jingyan lowered his head and kissed the top of her head, "I only regret not meeting you sooner."

Su Wantang laughed, "You're so glib."
