Chapter 125 A Fox Borrows the Tiger's Power, Winning Without Shedding Blood
In the afternoon, two grass-green military jeeps, one after the other, rushed into the alley where the Su family's old house was located.
"Crunch—Squeak—"
The screeching sound of brakes shattered the afternoon tranquility.
The wheels left two black marks on the stone pavement before stopping precisely in front of the tightly closed gate of the Su family's house.
There were a few neighbors chatting idly in the alley, but when they heard the commotion and saw the military license plate, they all shrank back and hid behind their doors.
The car doors were pushed open at almost the same time.
Lu Jingyan was the first to get out of the car. He was dressed in a crisp military uniform, his epaulets gleaming in the sunlight, his belt cinching his lean waist, and his long military boots stomping on the ground with a dull thud.
"Splash!"
The door of the car behind opened, and Qin Zheng jumped out with two retired veterans who had also changed into military uniforms.
The three men moved in perfect unison, standing behind Lu Jingyan with their backs straight as javelins. The fierce, battle-hardened aura they exuded instantly froze the air in the alley.
There was a deathly silence all around.
"Who is it?! Is this some kind of funeral?! Why are you honking your horn like that?!"
A sharp soprano voice came from inside the house.
The door creaked open, and a middle-aged woman in a floral shirt, her hair a mess like a bird's nest, rushed out, hands on her hips, muttering curses.
“I’m telling you, this is my home now! If you want to find that bastard Su Zhenhong, go to the Northwest…”
Before she could finish speaking, her gaze fell upon the commotion at the doorway.
All were in military uniforms, with gleaming epaulets and holsters blatantly worn at their waists.
Aunt Su couldn't finish her sentence; it was stuck in her throat.
Her fierce, hands-on-hips stance crumbled instantly, and her legs began to tremble involuntarily.
She mustered her courage and tried to say something, but Lu Jingyan's gaze drifted over coldly.
There was no anger, no emotion in those eyes, only a pure, indifferent coldness towards life.
Aunt Su felt a chill run from the soles of her feet straight to the top of her head, and she swallowed back the rest of her words, along with her saliva.
Just then, the door of the jeep behind them opened.
Bai Zhu got out of the car.
She wore a black pantsuit today, her long hair tied up high, revealing a section of her fair and beautiful neck.
His face was expressionless, and he held a document in his hand. The bright red seal on the document was so bright in the sunlight that it hurt the eyes.
She walked up to Aunt Su, stopped, and without even raising her eyelids, spoke in a detached tone as if reading a verdict:
"By secret order of the Beijing Military Region, a thorough investigation is being conducted into the assets related to Su Zhenhong's defection case. Upon investigation, this property has been found to be involved in the case and is immediately placed under temporary military control."
She paused, raised her eyes, and her beautiful peach blossom eyes remained completely still.
"All unauthorized personnel must be removed immediately."
“Military…military region?” Aunt Su’s mind went blank.
Are you from Beijing? Or from the military region?
She was both shocked and frightened, but the thought of the mansion made greed overcome her fear, and her instinct to cheat immediately took over:
"What...what are you doing! This is robbery! This house belongs to my cousin. Now that he's fallen from power, it's our place to live! What right do you have..."
She was about to lie down on the ground and start her usual tantrum.
But then, a sudden "boom" exploded in his mind, reminding him of the rumors Zheng Kai had sent out yesterday.
"A big shot has arrived in Beijing, specifically to dig into the root of the Su family case!"
"I heard that anyone who got a piece of the Su family's wealth, not one of them, will be packed up and sent to the far northwest to eat cornbread!"
—"The crime will be compounded! This warrants severe punishment!"
These words swirled in her mind like a demonic chant. She glanced again, her gaze inadvertently landing on the bulging leather holster at Lu Jingyan's waist.
Aunt Su's face turned as white as the wall plaster in an instant.
Her legs went weak, and she almost collapsed.
Bai Shu looked at her like this and gave a barely perceptible smirk.
She slowly handed the documents forward, her voice light and airy, yet it struck Aunt Su's nerves like a heavy hammer:
"Oh, right, I forgot to add one more thing."
"Anyone who actively cooperates with the investigation will be exempted from further investigation and will be held accountable for embezzlement."
“Those who stubbornly resist…” she drawled, emphasizing each word clearly and softly, “will be treated as accomplices.”
These last six words became the final straw that broke the camel's back.
Aunt Su could no longer bear it.
She burst into tears with a "waaaah," not a fake cry, but a genuine cry of fear.
"I...I'm not an accomplice! I'm not! Sir! Comrade! I'm innocent!"
She scrambled back into the yard and screamed into the house, "Husband! Quick! Pack your things! Run! They're going to kill us!"
A chaotic commotion erupted inside the house.
The sound of a table being overturned, the sound of a child crying in fright, and the sound of a man shouting and cursing in panic created complete chaos.
"My blanket!"
"The meat in that pot hasn't been eaten yet!"
"Dad! I can't find my slingshot!"
Aunt Su slapped her youngest son on the back of the head, crying and yelling, "What do you want a slingshot for! Do you want to kill me! Run!"
Less than half an hour.
The Su family, tumbling and crawling, carrying their bedding rolls and pots and pans, cried and shouted as they rushed out of the gate and disappeared into the alley without looking back.
The whole process was clean, efficient, and bloodless.
The neighbors could see the whole scene clearly through the cracks in the door and the windows.
Everyone was dumbfounded, their jaws practically dropping to the ground.
"My goodness, it...it scared it away already?"
"Who is that woman? She has such a strong presence!"
"And that officer, my God, just one look from him and my legs went weak. He must be a high-ranking officer!"
"I told you, this matter with the Su family isn't over! Look, even the troops from Beijing have arrived!"
"Serves him right! He let that family get away with it, and now he's almost gotten himself into trouble!"
Discussing voices and awe-inspiring gazes intertwined.
Bai Shu listened to these sounds and felt completely calm.
Su Zhenhong and Su Yuting liked to use rumors as weapons to smear her and throw mud at her.
Then she used this mud to grow a pond full of the most beautiful lotus flowers.
Use their greed and folly as weapons to fight back and make them reap what they sow.
This feels pretty good.
She turned her head to look at Lu Jingyan beside her.
The man was also looking at her, his cold eyes now filled with a smile and... a hint of barely perceptible pride.
It was as if she was saying: "She's truly my wife."
Bai Shu winked at him playfully and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Commander Lu, so impressive."
Lu Jingyan's voice was deep: "It's all thanks to you."
The area has been cleared.
Qin Zheng and his men guarded the gate, preventing anyone from approaching.
Su Wantang took a deep breath and stepped into the familiar yet unfamiliar old Su family mansion.
Lu Jingyan followed closely behind her, never leaving her side.
Inside the house, the mess left by Aunt Su's family and a foul, rancid smell still lingered.
Su Wantang ignored this; her goal was clear.
She walked through the courtyard, around the living room, and went straight up to the second floor.
Finally, it stopped at the door of the innermost room on the second floor, Su Yuting's former bedroom, which is now being used as a study.
She pushed open the door and went inside.
My gaze fell precisely on the wall behind the bed, on a carved boxwood panel depicting magpies perched on plum blossoms.
This is the place.
