Chapter 405 The Knights of the Round Table Gather in the Capital, the Lu Family Hosts a Closed-Door Banquet
Qin Zheng came up from the basement with a cane, clutching a piece of paper covered with dense numbers.
His leg was still bleeding, and the bandage was half-soaked, but he didn't care about the pain.
"Commander, Miss."
Qin Zheng slammed the note on the table, his voice very low.
"The actor's encrypted communications have been intercepted and deciphered."
Lu Jingyan picked up the note, glanced at it, and his eyes darkened.
Su Wantang leaned closer to look, her pupils suddenly contracting.
The note had six code names written on it: Bishop, Knight, Mage, Thief, Assassin, and Warrior.
Below is another line of text: Target locked on the Lu family's old residence, to be taken action at midnight tonight.
"Six people"
Su Wantang raised her head and looked at Qin Zheng.
Qin Zheng nodded.
"There were twelve Knights of the Round Table at the Eyrie. Six are dead now, and the rest have all come."
Lu Jingyan crumpled the paper into a ball, threw it into the ashtray, and lit it.
Flames leaped up and burned the paper to ashes.
"Go and tell Dad to evacuate."
Su Wantang turned to leave.
Lu Jingyan grabbed her wrist.
"Wantang, you go with Mom and Jingyue."
Su Wantang shook off his hand.
"I'm not leaving."
"obedient."
"Lu Jingyan, what do you take me for?"
Su Wantang stared at him, her eyes full of stubbornness.
"Are you just a pretty face or a burden?"
Lu Jingyan frowned. "I just don't want you to be in danger."
"I don't want you to be in danger either."
After Su Wantang finished speaking, she turned and left the room.
Lu Jingyan stood there, watching her retreating figure, and sighed.
Qin Zheng leaned against the door, a smile playing on his lips.
"Brigade Commander, you can't stop your wife's temper."
Lu Jingyan glared at him.
"roll."
Qin Zheng smiled and left, leaning on his cane.
Lu Jingyan walked to the window, lit a cigarette, and the smoke rose in the moonlight.
The conversation he had just had was replaying in his mind, and he felt a little annoyed.
Wan Tang is so stubborn; once she gets going, not even ten oxen could pull her back.
But he had to admit that this was one of the reasons he loved her.
This woman never hides.
When something happens, she's always the first one to rush to the rescue.
Lu Jingyan stubbed out his cigarette and turned to walk towards the old man's study.
In the study, Lu Zhenguo was looking at a map.
He looked up when he heard footsteps.
"Jingyan, what's wrong?"
Lu Jingyan recounted what had just happened.
After listening, Lu Zhenguo remained silent for a few seconds.
"Tell your mother and Jingyue to go to the military base. I'm not leaving."
"dad……"
"Don't try to persuade me."
Lu Zhenguo interrupted him, stood up, and walked to the window with his hands behind his back.
"I've fought a lifetime of wars, and I've never been afraid of anyone."
He turned around and looked at Lu Jingyan.
"Go and prepare, call the Twelve Guards of Thunder Shield. We'll wait here tonight."
Lu Jingyan looked at the old man, paused for a few seconds, and nodded.
"good."
He turned and left the study, walking into the master bedroom.
Meng Wan was packing her things when she saw him come in, and she stopped what she was doing.
"Jingyan, your dad said Jingyue and I need to go to the military base."
Lu Jingyan nodded.
"Mom, there might be danger tonight. You and Jingyue should go first."
Meng Wan was silent for a few seconds, then walked up to him, raised her hand, and patted his shoulder.
"Jingyan, you and your father should both be careful."
"Um."
Meng Wan turned around and continued packing her things.
Lu Jingyan left the room and went to the basement.
In the basement, Lu Jingyue lay on the bed, her eyes open, staring at the ceiling.
Su Wantang sat on the edge of the bed, holding a small bottle in her hand.
Hearing footsteps, she looked up.
"Jingyan".
Lu Jingyan walked over and glanced at Lu Jingyue.
How is she?
"good."
Su Wantang stood up and handed him the small bottle.
"This is spiritual spring water. Giving it to Jingyue will help stabilize her emotions."
Lu Jingyan took the bottle and glanced at her.
"Wantang, you..."
I know what you're trying to say.
Su Wantang interrupted him.
"But I won't leave, don't try to persuade me."
Lu Jingyan looked at her, his eyes full of helplessness.
"Then at least promise me you won't run around."
"good."
Su Wantang nodded.
Lu Jingyan fed the spiritual spring water to Lu Jingyue, who drank a few sips and her eyes gradually calmed down.
Su Wantang walked up to Qin Zheng and took out a small bottle from her pocket.
"Qin Zheng, stretch your legs out."
Qin Zheng was stunned for a moment.
"Young Miss, this..."
"Stop talking nonsense."
Su Wantang squatted down and removed the bandages from his leg.
The wound was still bleeding, the flesh was torn and twisted, and it looked gruesome.
Su Wantang poured the spiritual spring water onto the wound.
Qin Zheng gasped, his whole body tensing up.
"Young Miss, this..."
He froze before he could finish speaking.
The wound is healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The bleeding stopped, new flesh grew, and the wound scabbed over in less than a minute.
Qin Zheng stared wide-eyed at his legs.
"What...what is this?"
Don't ask.
Su Wantang stood up and put the bottle back in her arms.
"You have to play tonight, and you can't be lame."
Qin Zheng stood up and tried to take a couple of steps.
My leg doesn't hurt at all anymore, it's like I've never been injured.
He looked at Su Wantang, his eyes filled with shock.
"Young Miss, you..."
"Shut up."
Su Wantang glared at him.
"What happened tonight, I'll keep to myself."
Qin Zheng nodded immediately.
"clear."
Su Wantang turned around and went upstairs.
Lu Jingyan has already summoned the Twelve Guards of Thunder Shield.
Twelve people stood in the courtyard, fully armed.
Su Wantang took a box of things out of the room and put it on the ground.
"This is a poison smoke bomb, specially made by me."
She opened the box, inside which were dozens of small black balls neatly arranged.
"It will explode three seconds after being thrown out. The smoke is toxic and will temporarily cause incapacitation if inhaled."
She took out another box of bullets.
"This is an armor-piercing round; it can penetrate bulletproof vests."
The twelve guards of Thunder Shield immediately stepped forward and divided the items among themselves.
Lu Jingyan walked up to Su Wantang and looked at her.
"Wantang, how did you get these things?"
Su Wantang didn't answer and turned to walk upstairs.
"Never mind that, let's get ready first."
Lu Jingyan watched her retreating figure, his brows furrowing even more deeply.
This woman has too many secrets.
But he knew now was not the time to ask.
He turned around and looked at the Thunder Shield Twelve Guards and Qin Zheng.
"Tonight we'll fight a decisive battle."
He walked to the center of the courtyard and drew a circle on the ground with his finger.
"There are six enemies in total, and they will attack from six directions."
He drew six dots outside the circle.
“We’ll just stay in the yard, wait for them to come in, then close the gate and beat the dogs.”
Qin Zheng walked over, leaning on his cane.
"Commander, should we set a trap?"
"want."
Lu Jingyan nodded.
“Turn off all the lights in the yard, scatter nails on the ground, and bury tripwires in the corners of the walls.”
He raised his head and looked at the crowd.
"Leave no survivors tonight."
Everyone responded in unison.
As dusk fell, the setting sun dyed the courtyard blood red.
Su Wantang stood on the second-floor balcony, holding a crossbow in her hand.
She took these crossbow bolts out of her spatial storage; they were improved, with a longer range and higher accuracy.
She bent down to examine the crossbow bolts, her fingers tracing the cold shafts.
Lu Jingyan walked to her side and handed her a bulletproof vest.
"Put them on."
Su Wantang took the bulletproof vest and put it on.
It was heavy, but she didn't say anything.
Lu Jingyan looked at her, his eyes full of worry.
"Wantang, are you really not leaving?"
Su Wantang raised her head and looked at him.
"Lu Jingyan, if you ask again, I'll divorce you."
Lu Jingyan paused for a moment, then smiled.
"Okay, I won't ask anymore."
He raised his hand and patted her head.
"Then let's fight together."
Night fell completely.
All the lights in the Lu family compound were off, with only moonlight shining into the courtyard.
Qin Zheng lay prone on the roof, holding a sniper rifle.
The twelve Thunder Shield Guards were scattered in various corners of the courtyard, hidden in the shadows.
Lu Jingyan stood at the entrance of the main hall, holding a gun in his hand.
Lu Zhenguo sat in the armchair in the main hall, holding a teapot in his hand, slowly sipping his tea.
Su Wantang stood on the second-floor balcony, with a crossbow resting on the railing.
Everything is ready.
Time passed second by second.
It's almost midnight.
Faint footsteps could be heard in the distance.
Six figures appeared from six directions, slowly approaching the Lu family compound.
They were all dressed in black bodysuits, their faces covered, with only their eyes showing.
Qin Zheng saw them through the scope and lowered his voice.
"Brigade Commander, they've arrived."
Lu Jingyan gripped the gun tightly, his voice cold.
"Wait for them to come in."
Six figures climbed over the wall and landed in the courtyard.
The leader was tall and was holding a cross.
He stood in the center of the courtyard, raised his head, and looked at the main hall.
"People from the Lu family, come out."
The sound was very low, with an eerie echo.
Lu Zhenguo came out carrying a teapot and stood on the steps.
"Who are you"
The man smiled.
"My name is Bishop."
He held up the cross, chanting scriptures that no one could understand.
The sound grew louder and more urgent.
The next second, all the power to the Lu family compound was cut off.
The lights went out.
The moonlight was also obscured by dark clouds.
The courtyard was plunged into darkness.
The bishop's voice rang out in the darkness.
"The trial has begun."
