Chapter 333 The Battle in the Nursery
Joanna's matter was half resolved; the rest was left to Gao Jianjun and his team to keep an eye on. Su Wantang felt she could finally have a few days of peace and quiet.
Days passed, and her belly grew bigger day by day.
Lu Jingyan began to busy himself with things in the nursery.
He takes everything he does seriously to an alarming degree; even setting up the nursery is like a battle.
Su Wantang originally wanted to find someone to design it, but Lu Jingyan said, "No need to find outsiders, I'll do it."
She looked at him, her face full of doubt: "Are you sure you can do it?"
Lu Jingyan raised his head, expressionless: "I'm not good enough?"
Su Wantang shrank back in fright at his gaze: "Fine, fine, you're good."
Three days later, Lu Jingyan returned carrying a pile of things.
Wang Ma stood at the door, her face changing as she watched him move the things in.
"Commander, what's wrong...?"
Lu Jingyan put the things down and dusted off his hands: "I spent several days choosing the furniture for the nursery."
Su Wantang came out of the house and was stunned when she saw the pile of things.
A military green crib.
Camouflage patterned bed sheets.
There's also a smaller... military uniform.
She stared at the military uniform for a long time before finally managing to utter, "Lu Jingyan, are you crazy?"
Lu Jingyan asked, puzzled, "What's wrong?"
"What's wrong?" Su Wantang pointed at the pile of things. "Are you planning to train your child to be a special forces soldier?"
Lu Jingyan said in a serious tone: "We should cultivate a military mentality from a young age."
Su Wantang almost laughed in anger: "How old is the child? You're making him wear a military uniform?"
"What else would you wear if not a military uniform?" Lu Jingyan retorted, "Those flashy clothes?"
Su Wantang took a deep breath, trying to control her temper: "What about the things I asked Wang Ma to buy yesterday?"
Wang Ma quickly took out another bag.
Su Wantang opened the bag and took out the contents.
The wallpaper is pale yellow, printed with little rabbits and bears.
A soft rattle, adorned with colorful strips of cloth.
There's also a set of pink and white baby bed sheets.
She laid these things out on the floor and pointed to them, saying, "This is what a nursery should have."
Lu Jingyan glanced at it and shook his head: "Too soft. Children need to develop a strong character from a young age."
Su Wantang stared at him: "Say it again?"
Lu Jingyan sensed danger, but still gritted his teeth and said, "I'm telling the truth, this is how boys should be raised."
"Who said I'm having a boy?"
Lu Jingyan was taken aback: "Not a boy?"
Su Wantang sneered: "I didn't say it had to be a boy."
Lu Jingyan's expression changed: "Then... what if it's a girl?"
"What if it's a girl? Are you planning to let her wear a military uniform and sleep in a crib?"
Lu Jingyan was silent for a few seconds: "That's not necessarily a bad thing."
Su Wantang was furious and turned to leave.
Lu Jingyan quickly pulled her back: "Don't be angry, that's not what I meant."
"That's what you mean." Su Wantang shook off his hand. "Lu Jingyan, you're a straight man, a complete straight man."
Lu Jingyan was rendered speechless by her words and could only bite the bullet and ask, "Then what do you want to do?"
"Do as I say." Su Wantang pointed to the things on the ground, "Throw away all your junk and use what I bought."
Looking at the things he had painstakingly selected over three days, Lu Jingyan felt a pang of sadness: "Wantang, these things of mine weren't cheap either..."
"I don't care." Su Wantang turned around. "Either listen to me, or you sleep in the nursery yourself."
Lu Jingyan choked.
Just then, Meng Wan and Lu Zhenguo arrived.
As soon as Meng Wan entered the room, she saw the pile of things on the floor, and her expression changed.
"Jingyan, did you buy this?"
Lu Jingyan nodded.
Meng Wan walked over, picked up the little military uniform, and frowned: "Why did you buy something like this?"
“I think it’s great,” Lu Jingyan said.
Meng Wan threw the military uniform back: "What's so good about it? You're already causing trouble before the baby is even born. What will you do when the baby is born and turn him into an iron man?"
Lu Zhenguo walked over, glanced at the things on the ground, and said, unusually, "I think Jingyan made the right choice."
Meng Wan glared at him: "Say less."
Lu Zhenguo remained silent.
Meng Wan turned around, looked at the things Su Wantang had bought, and smiled: "Wantang bought the right things. This is how children should be raised, all soft and cuddly."
Su Wantang breathed a sigh of relief: "Mom, you also think it was the right thing I bought, right?"
“Of course.” Meng Wan patted her hand. “Especially girls, they need to be pampered.”
Lu Jingyan frowned: "What if it's a boy?"
Meng Wan waved her hand: "Boys also need to be pampered. How can you treat them like this from a young age?"
Lu Zhenguo finally couldn't hold back any longer: "Meng Wan, boys need to be trained from a young age, otherwise how will they protect the country in the future?"
Meng Wan sneered: "Defending the country is a matter for the future. We haven't even been born yet, and you're already thinking about these things?"
Lu Zhenguo was speechless.
Su Wantang watched the couple argue and suddenly found it a little funny.
Lu Jingyan stood beside her and lowered his voice: "Look, even my dad supports me."
Su Wantang rolled her eyes: "So what? Mom supports me."
Lu Jingyan was silent for a few seconds: "Then what should we do?"
Su Wantang thought for a moment: "Let's compromise."
How can we find a compromise?
“You can use the crib you buy, but the sheets have to be the ones I buy.” Su Wantang pointed to the camouflage sheets.
"This thing is so ugly."
Lu Jingyan looked at the bed sheets and felt a little reluctant to part with them.
“The wallpaper has to be the one I bought too,” Su Wantang continued. “Your military green one looks so depressing.”
Lu Jingyan frowned: "Then what do I have left of the things I bought?"
Su Wantang thought for a moment and said, "We can keep the military uniform and let the child wear it when he/she is older."
Lu Jingyan's eyes lit up: "Really?"
“Yes.” Su Wantang nodded, “But I can’t wear it now.”
Lu Jingyan breathed a sigh of relief: "Okay then."
Meng Wan and Lu Zhenguo were still arguing when Lu Jingyan walked over and said, "Dad, Mom, stop arguing. Wan Tang and I have already discussed it."
Meng Wan stopped: "How did you agree to this?"
Lu Jingyan explained their decision.
Meng Wan thought for a moment and nodded: "Okay, let's do it this way."
Lu Zhenguo remained silent, which was taken as tacit agreement.
Over the next few days, Lu Jingyan began working on the renovation of the nursery.
He moved the army green crib inside and then put out the things Su Wantang had bought.
After a busy afternoon, it's finally finished.
Su Wantang stood at the door, looking at the interior decorations, a smile on her face.
The crib is army green, but the sheets are light yellow with bunnies and bears printed on them.
The walls were covered with pale yellow wallpaper and hung with colorful rattles.
Several potted plants were placed on the windowsill, and sunlight streamed in through the window, making the whole room warm and cozy.
"How is it?" Lu Jingyan walked to her side. "Are you satisfied?"
Su Wantang nodded: "It's alright."
Lu Jingyan breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, Wang Ma came in with a letter: "Miss, a letter has arrived from Shanghai."
Su Wantang took the letter, opened it, and read it.
The letter was written by Wang Kun.
In his letter, he said that a few days ago the fleet encountered pirates on the high seas and rescued a German merchant.
In gratitude, the man revealed a piece of information.
Recently, a type of purple soil has been reportedly being bought at high prices on the European black market.
Su Wantang frowned after reading the letter.
Purple soil?
She recalled the batch of soil samples she had brought back from the Northwest some time ago.
Lu Jingyan also came over to look: "What does this mean?"
Su Wantang handed him the letter: "Take a look."
After reading the letter, Lu Jingyan's face darkened: "Is someone buying up purple clay?"
“Yes.” Su Wantang nodded. “And it was acquired at a high price.”
Lu Jingyan was silent for a few seconds: "Do you think this is related to that batch of soil in the Northwest?"
Su Wantang didn't speak, she just stared at the sky outside the window.
"Wantang, what are you thinking about?"
Su Wantang snapped out of her daze and shook her head: "It's nothing, I just think it's a bit of a coincidence."
Lu Jingyan squeezed her hand: "Don't worry, I'll handle this."
Su Wantang turned around and looked at him: "Jingyan, do you think it might be the people from Eagle's Nest who are pulling the strings behind the scenes?"
Lu Jingyan was silent for a few seconds: "Possibly."
The two looked at each other for a few seconds without saying anything.
At night, Su Wantang lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
Lu Jingyan sat on the edge of the bed, holding her hand: "Don't think about it, just sleep well."
Su Wantang closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"Jingyan, I have a feeling that this matter is not so simple."
Lu Jingyan leaned down, his forehead touching hers: "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Su Wantang opened her eyes and looked at him: "I'm not afraid, I'm just worried about the baby."
Lu Jingyan's eyes softened: "The child will be alright, and you will be alright too."
Su Wantang smiled and said nothing more.
Lu Jingyan got up, walked to the door of the nursery, looked at the furnishings inside, and a smile appeared on his lips.
He turned around, went back to the bedroom, took off his coat, and crawled into bed.
Su Wantang leaned against him, her voice a little dazed: "Lu Jingyan."
"Um?"
"What do you think our children will be like in the future?"
Lu Jingyan thought for a moment: "As smart as you, just like me..."
"Like you in what way?"
Lu Jingyan was silent for a few seconds: "He can fight just as well as I can."
Su Wantang burst out laughing.
Lu Jingyan looked down at her, his eyes burning: "What are you laughing at?"
"I'm laughing at you." Su Wantang raised her head. "Commander Lu, your combat power is not good."
Lu Jingyan narrowed his eyes: "Don't you know whether I'm capable or not?"
Su Wantang's face turned red instantly.
