Chapter 108 Cen Yan's Advice
Cen Yan really felt that she was "unworthy" to represent the military families in the interview.
She and Qi Jingchuan had just gotten married and were in the honeymoon phase. They hadn't yet experienced the hardships of being apart for long periods of time, nor could they describe the bittersweetness of a military marriage. Therefore, she felt that Minister Wang and Reporter Chen should interview the more experienced sister-in-law, not her.
"Comrade Cen Yan, you are Commander Qi's wife. You are young and beautiful, and you are qualified to be interviewed by our Liberation Daily as a representative of military families. Please do not refuse. This interview will not take up too much of your time."
Reporter Chen took out paper and pen to interview Cen Yan, but when Cen Yan heard this, the smile in her eyes slowly faded, and her words became a bit sharp.
“Reporter Chen, I think you shouldn’t have said that. If being young and pretty is enough to be featured on military propaganda boards and published in newspapers, then the prestigious Liberation Daily becomes a joke!”
"Since we're doing a feature on military families, I think we should start with their fine character, not their looks. What do you think?"
Cen Yan refused to accept such high praise. As a young woman, she was not qualified to appear in the newspaper as a representative of a military family. Otherwise, she would be unworthy of the position and would surely suffer disaster!
Chen's words were refuted by Cen Yan, and he looked somewhat embarrassed.
But Cen Yan was no fool. She keenly sensed Chen's displeasure and immediately invited Chen to sit down, then expressed her thoughts.
"Regarding the interview on the topic of military families, I think Reporter Chen and Minister Wang, your idea is exceptionally good."
A barrage of flattery made Reporter Chen and Minister Wang's expressions much better.
Cen Yan seized the opportunity to continue expressing her opinions.
"However, I think it's unwise to have an individual represent the group, and it's a bit too monotonous. How about we change the individual interview into a group interview, Mr. Chen and Mr. Wang? What do you think?"
"A group interview?" Minister Wang and reporter Chen exchanged a glance, not quite understanding Cen Yan's idea.
Cen Yan briefly described: "Let's set a time to gather all the military spouses who are available in the family compound, especially older seniors like the political commissar's wife. They must have a lot to say to us young comrades."
"Everyone has a unique perspective. Only by collecting a large amount of material can we create a good column that clearly and intuitively shows the difficulties we face as military families. What do you think?"
"It's a good idea, but a group interview would be noisy and there would be too much material to cover, exceeding the allotted space," reporter Chen frowned, somewhat worried.
Cen Yan showered him with compliments: "Length isn't important, what matters is the quality of the content! A professional journalist like you, Reporter Chen, certainly won't be limited by length, right?"
Reporter Chen straightened his back and said, "Comrade Cen Yan, you flatter me. There are many excellent reporters in our Liberation Daily. I am just a small reporter on the scene."
"Being able to be a field reporter is already top-notch, Reporter Chen, don't underestimate yourself." Cen Yan said disapprovingly. "Why is it not some other reporter going to the scene, but you, Reporter Chen? Isn't it because you're too outstanding?"
"Comrade Cen Yan, what you said makes me blush..."
Cen Yan smiled slightly, "Then it's settled. A group interview—there's no time like the present, so let's do it tomorrow, okay?"
“Alright! Since Comrade Cen Yan has said so, then tomorrow, Minister Wang and I will go to the family compound in person. We would also appreciate it if Comrade Cen Yan could help us gather all the military families.”
"no problem."
