Chapter 283 The Pork Cracklings Were Stolen

Chapter 283 The Pork Cracklings Were Stolen

The next morning, Cen Yan was preoccupied with the things she needed to do that day, so she got up early to prepare breakfast.

Normally, Qi Jingchuan would get up early to get her meals from the army canteen. Today was her day off, so she planned to cook something delicious for him so that he could occasionally rest and sleep in.

After washing up, Cen Yan went into the kitchen and took out fresh vegetables and pork from her spatial storage.

There was a lot of clattering and banging in the kitchen. Qi Jingchuan, who was a light sleeper, had woken up when Cen Yan got up, but he followed his wife's advice and lay in bed with his eyes closed, taking a nap.

As the bedding beside him gradually cooled down, he lost interest in staying in bed.

He stood up, put on his crisp military uniform, and wore sturdy, shiny military boots.

His appearance is a beautiful sight to behold.

"Didn't I tell you to sleep a little longer? Why are you up?" Cen Yan was brought back to her senses by the noise coming from the doorway and continued chopping meat.

Qi Jingchuan walked into the kitchen and glanced at her. "Why are you unhappy? I don't sleep in, it's just a habit, not because I don't appreciate your kindness."

My wife is much more assertive than I imagined. She got angry just because he refused to sleep in? What should I do?

Cen Yan rolled her eyes at him. "Do I look like someone who gets angry so easily? I'm just a little confused. Last night, there were three big bowls of pork cracklings that I collected, and they were piled high. Why are they not piled high this morning?"

"You mean some rats ate our pork cracklings, given the weather?" Qi Jingchuan asked, unsure of Cen Yan's meaning.

Cen Yan snorted, "I'm afraid this rat isn't the same rat as the others, and I don't even know when it stole the pork cracklings. No, I have to go out and check. Qi Jingchuan, could you chop up all this pork and pork cracklings for me? I'll season them when I get back."

After saying that, he took off his sleeves and apron and walked out in a swagger.

Qi Jingchuan thought that it was probably just some kid in the compound who was greedy and couldn't resist grabbing a handful while teaching everyone how to make lipstick yesterday. It was harmless.

Seeing Cen Yan rush out in a hurry, he couldn't very well not be on his wife's side, so he immediately followed her out to help her catch the thief, and was also worried that Cen Yan would be taken advantage of in the courtyard.

"Cen Yan? What brings you out here?" Aunt Tang asked as if she had seen a rare person. "Your family lives in a military officer's compound with a private kitchen. Why are you coming out to share the communal kitchen with us?"

Cen Yan casually made up an excuse: "Hey! I was taking a day off today and was thinking of making steamed buns for Qi Jingchuan, but I realized I didn't have any scallions, so I thought I'd come out and borrow a couple from my sisters-in-law for seasoning."

"Scallions? Here, I have some, take them." Upon hearing this, Aunt Tang immediately handed over two scallions.

"Thank you, Aunt Tang. I'll buy it and return it to you another day."

"Two scallions are nothing, it's too formal to say that," Aunt Tang chuckled.

Suddenly! She saw Cen Yan sniffing around with a dog-like nose, so Aunt Tang asked her a few more questions. Cen Yan then continued to speak with a suspicious look on her face.

"Aunt Tang, it smells so good! What's that smell? Who made fried pork cracklings? I've never smelled anything so delicious before. I have to find out whose sister-in-law is making such fragrant food and ask her for advice. I rendered so much oil yesterday, and I was wondering what to do with the leftover pork cracklings."

Aunt Tang didn't take Cen Yan's words to heart, nor did she know if there was any deeper meaning behind them.

Seeing Cen Yan's drooling expression, he immediately smiled and pointed in a direction—
