When she returned to serve the vegetables, Zhou Yuting was not there, but Zhao Meilan was chewing something.
She glanced at the plate of greens and noticed that there were fewer than usual.
I felt a chill run down my spine. Did this person eat with their hands?
"Zhao Meilan, what are you eating?"
Zhao Meilan, her mouth bulging, mumbled, "N-nothing?"
Su Li glanced at her right hand, greasy and oily, and understood immediately. "How can you be so shameless? Who gave you permission to touch my food?"
Zhao Meilan didn't dare look Su Li in the eye; she just found the plate of bok choy particularly delicious. Unable to resist, she grabbed two leaves to taste, and to her surprise, it tasted exceptionally good. After eating it, she felt refreshed and invigorated, and, still wanting more, she grabbed another handful.
"I didn't, don't wrong an innocent person." Although Zhao Meilan felt guilty, she still stubbornly insisted.
Su Li was too lazy to waste words with her. The dish had been messed up like this, and she had no appetite for it. She simply picked up the plate and dumped the entire dish over Zhao Meilan's head.

"If you touch my things again without permission, things won't end so easily."

After saying that, she wiped away her tears and snot, which disgusted Zhou Yuting. Although she didn't like her slovenly appearance, after spending the last two days with Zhao Meilan, she found her to be a nice person.
Zhou Yuting stepped forward, frowning as she looked at Su Li and said, "I know you don't like her, but you can't just target someone like this for no reason! Apologize."

Although Zhou Yuting was angry at Zhao Meilan for being so useless, she also knew about her situation: parents who favored sons over daughters, an idle brother, a sister who looked down on her, and her own broken self.
She felt sorry for the environment she had lived in since childhood. Zhao Meilan said that from the moment she was willing to give her food on the train, she regarded her as her own family.

This stuff is edible, but it gets cloying if you eat too much of it, and it doesn't fill you up.
Zhou Yuting and Zhao Meilan ate two packets of pastries for dinner and quickly finished their meal.
The next morning, Su Li got up early; it was her first day back at work.
After washing up, she took two steamed buns from her spatial storage and ate them. Before going to work, she wrapped a scarf around her face, leaving only her eyes exposed.
Wearing a pair of work gloves, she went outside and saw that Zhou Yuting's room was quiet, so she knocked on the door and headed towards the assembly point.
When Su Li arrived at the brigade headquarters, she saw a huge group of commune members.
Su Li stood with the new educated youth who had arrived yesterday. Some older women and young men would occasionally glance at them.
The young men were alright; at least they didn't say anything, they just looked at each other.
The older women and aunties have absolutely no sense of propriety when it comes to their words.
"Little Flower's mom, look at that educated youth, so dark and skinny, like a stick. And look at her, she's even wearing a scarf around her neck. It's hilarious."
"Who says otherwise? And the one standing next to her, she's fair-skinned, has a big butt and big breasts. Marrying her would definitely give her a son, but she's not good at working."
"The four new female educated youths who came to our village this time, apart from the dark and skinny one, the others are all incredibly beautiful. There's another one who probably overslept and hasn't arrived yet. You didn't see her, she's really beautiful. The young men in our village are going to have a field day."

Several shy female educated youths blushed at the comments, but the older educated youths were used to it, and Su Li didn't pay much attention to it.
