"Look how free I am! This child is your sister Jiaojiao's. Go and cook some rice porridge, and make some rice while you're at it. Those two came to cause trouble at noon, and he didn't get to eat anything. Now his stomach hurts from hunger."
Su Mu didn't say anything, and went straight into the kitchen. He took two eggs from the cupboard and made two egg pancakes.
I poured myself another glass of water and ate the pancake while drinking it.
When Su Guoqiang came out carrying the wailing child, he saw Su Mu finish the last bite of the pancake.
He thought he had already prepared the meal, so he said to Su Mu, "Where's the rice porridge I asked you to make? Bring it over quickly, I'll feed it to Xiao Bao."
Su Mu looked at Su Guoqiang as if he were an idiot; "I don't have your kind heart. It's one thing to raise a daughter who has nothing to do with you. Now you want to raise a child of unknown origin. I don't have your compassionate heart. But I won't disturb your good deeds. I'm tired and I'm going back to my room to sleep."
"Su Mu, how could you say that..."
Before Su Guoqiang could finish speaking, Su Muren had already disappeared from sight.
He really felt that this brat was born to oppose him, and he couldn't count on him for anything.
Su Guoqiang managed to get up and cook some rice porridge for the child. The child was too young, so he tried to scrape off the rice oil from the top for her to drink.
After the child had finished eating and stopped crying, his stomach was already hurting badly, so he quickly drank a bowl himself.
Knowing he had to go to work tomorrow, and that the family's income came entirely from his salary at the steel mill.
Although he really wanted to help Su Jiao take care of the child himself, he simply couldn't.
From what Yuan Shuo just said, Jiao Jiao has already been assigned to a farm, and he can't send the child to her there. Jiao Jiao is already having a hard time on the farm; if she has to take care of a child as well, she probably won't be able to survive.
Otherwise, such a kind-hearted girl would never have abandoned her child with Yuan Shuo.
Su Guoqiang thought for a moment. There was an old widow living alone in the neighborhood. He could send the child to her to help raise for a while, and give her two or three yuan a month. He figured the old woman would definitely agree, and since she didn't have any children of her own, she probably wouldn't treat Jiao Jiao's child too badly.
Thinking this way, he did just that.
This is why Su Jiaojiao didn't see her child immediately upon returning.
Seeing the child Su Guoqiang brought back, she was a little annoyed, but she still forced a smile and said to Su Guoqiang, "Dad, I didn't expect my uncle to send this child to you."
Su Guoqiang didn't mind at all, and said with a smile to comfort Su Jiaojiao, "It's okay, I'll ask the old lady in front to help take care of her. Look at this child, she's much prettier now than before."
Su Jiaojiao glanced at the child with disgust; "Dad, this child was born after Su Li caused my miscarriage last time. Every time I see her, I'm reminded of those bad things. Why don't we give her away?"
She is still young, and her life has just begun. She doesn't want to be burdened by such a child.
“I know you’re upset about seeing this child, but the child is innocent. She is, after all, your own flesh and blood. I’m afraid you’ll regret it later.”
"I don't regret it at all," Su Jiaojiao muttered subconsciously.
Her voice was too soft for Su Guoqiang to hear clearly: "What did you just say?"
Su Jiaojiao said guiltily, "It's nothing. I just feel that this child is causing you too much trouble, and I don't want you to work so hard."
Su Guoqiang smiled and said, "It's not hard work, especially since you're not leaving anymore. From now on, you can just stay home, cook, and take care of the kids. Dad will take care of the rest."
Su Jiaojiao realized that no matter what he said, he just didn't want to send the child away.
The mere thought that this child was Niu Tieguang's offspring made her want to throw her out right now.
"Dad, let's not talk about this now, I'm a little hungry."
Su Guoqiang wanted to tell her to do it herself, but then he thought about how she must be exhausted after just returning from the train trip, so he smiled and said, "Okay, you hold the baby for a while, I'll make you some egg noodles. We happen to have two eggs left at home."
Su Jiaojiao took the child, and after Su Guoqiang went to the kitchen, she threw her directly onto the bed without even bothering to look at her.
She'll have to send this child away sooner or later.
Su Guoqiang quickly made the egg noodles, and the father and daughter each had a bowl, but he gave all the eggs to Su Jiaojiao.
When Su Mu came home from school that evening, she saw Su Jiaojiao sitting in the living room with a pile of sunflower seed shells at her feet.
He frowned. "Why are you back?"
Su Jiaojiao smiled and said to Su Mu, "Little Mu, you're back from school. How's your studies lately? Is there anything you don't understand? I can help you."
Su Mu was disgusted. She didn't believe he couldn't see through his attitude towards her when he visited Lijiatun last time; their relationship had already fallen apart back then.
She's still putting on an act in front of him; she's really shameless.
"Su Jiaojiao, don't call yourself 'sister' in front of me. You don't deserve it."
Su Guoqiang, who was cooking in the kitchen, was so angry when he heard this that he ran out.
"You brat, how dare you talk to your sister like that?"
Su Mu looked at the two of them with mocking expressions and said, "You two are truly disgusting."
He then looked at Su Jiaojiao and said, "Get out of my house. You're not welcome here."
A hint of hatred flashed in Su Jiaojiao's eyes. This Su Mu actually wanted to drive her away. She had nowhere to go now, so of course she couldn't leave.
With tears in her eyes, she looked at Su Mu with a sorrowful expression: "Xiao Mu, what did I do to upset you? Tell me and I'll change. But I've been forced into a divorce by Su Li, and now I have nowhere to go. If you let me leave, I'll just die out there."
Seeing Su Jiaojiao so heartbroken, Su Guoqiang kicked Su Mu, saying, "Stop talking nonsense in front of your sister, or don't blame me for beating you to death."
Su Mu had long been utterly disappointed in his father. Now he still needed Su Guoqiang's money to go to school, and he knew that given how much he cared about Su Jiaojiao, it was impossible for him to kick her out.
Too lazy to waste any more words, he went straight into the kitchen and saw Su Guoqiang stir-frying cabbage with the last bit of cured pork in the house. He found a large bowl, filled it with all the cured pork, then scooped up some cabbage and some rice, before limping back to his room.
After Su Guoqiang calmed Su Jiaojiao down, the two were about to go eat when there was only a little cabbage left in the pot.
Su Guoqiang's veins bulged with rage. He kicked at Su Mu's door, yelling, "Are you a reincarnated starving ghost?! Don't you know your sister just got back? You didn't even leave her a piece of meat! Are you even human?!"
Su Mu didn't open the door from inside, but instead shouted loudly, "Then you wait and see if she'll burn paper money for you when you die?"
