Chapter 36 Trading Gold and Antiques

I remember being beaten quite a bit by her dad back then.

Fortunately, he went to the army for a year afterward, otherwise his parents would have worried about him for the rest of their lives.

"Okay, let's look at it together. If there's anything you don't recognize or don't understand, just ask me."

Su Li smiled and said, "Okay."

Su Li and Chen Shengnan put down their books when it got dark.

"Shengnan, from now on, come here every day and let's read together for a while. I can't concentrate on reading by myself."

Su Li was thinking of giving her a hand, so that maybe they could both get into good universities next year when the college entrance exam comes around.

Chen Shengnan felt that Su Li's experience was too pitiful and couldn't bear to refuse, so she nodded.

After making their agreement, Chen Shengnan went back, and Su Li locked the door and entered the space.

The fruit she planted last time has all sprouted, and Su Li also watered the vegetable garden and fruit seedlings with some spiritual spring water.

After tidying up the space, the time was up, and she was ejected.

Early in the morning, the weather turned a bit chilly. Su Li was going to trade chestnuts with Lu Shan today.

She didn't make breakfast, but took out two meat buns from her storage space and ate them.

After finishing his meal, he carried a basket on his back, took out a bag of snacks from his spatial storage, and went to the brigade leader's house to ask for leave.

Perhaps Gu Huanian gave prior notice, because the brigade leader approved it without saying anything.

The brigade leader thought that as long as they didn't drag the brigade down and could make a living, he didn't necessarily want these educated youths to do anything extraordinary.

He scrutinized Su Li closely. He wondered who this Su educated youth was; how come Battalion Commander Gu had specifically requested her to help cook on the mountain, with the army paying for it? Su educated youth had only been there a short time! Could it be that the two had known each other for a long time?

"Su Zhiqing, Battalion Commander Gu must have told you already! Tomorrow, take a few men to the mountain to help them cook. Have you decided on the men yet? Do you need me to help you find some?"

Because Battalion Commander Gu had instructed Su Li to choose her own people, he couldn't interfere.

Su Li thought for a moment and said, "Captain, I only have one candidate here, Chen Shengnan. Could you please help me choose two more capable women from the village?"

Su Li still gave the brigade leader some face, after all, she would be staying in the village for another year and would still need to rely on him. Besides, apart from Chen Shengnan, she wasn't familiar with anyone else.

The captain laughed and said, "Okay, I'll find someone who can go with you tomorrow."

After leaving the brigade leader's house, Su Li headed towards the village entrance. She had arrived early, and a few educated youths and villagers were already sitting on the oxcart.

She got on and waited for about half an hour before a large number of people arrived.

Almost everyone from the educated youth settlement came; everyone wanted to be a teacher for this exam.

Everyone in the village who had gone up to junior high school came; no one wanted to miss such a good opportunity, which resulted in the oxcart not being able to accommodate everyone.

Fortunately, it was still early. Old Li said to those who hadn't come up yet, "I'll come back again in a bit. You can either go by yourselves or wait here."

The people below didn't have any objections at first, but suddenly Su Jiaojiao looked at Su Li and said, "Sister, I remember you didn't sign up for the teacher assessment! I don't think going to town is a big deal for you, so why don't you give your position to Mei Fang!"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Meifang's eyes lit up. The exam started at nine o'clock, and she was genuinely worried that if something happened on her second trip, she would be late.

She looked at Su Li expectantly; "Su Li, thank you so much for giving up your seat for me. I'll treat you to candy when I get back."

Su Li watched the two of them singing and joking, and before she could even agree, Jiang Meifang had already put her on a high platform.

She glanced at the others below, none of them had her thick skin.

"Comrade Jiang, your thanks are premature. Su Zhiqing hasn't agreed yet," Lu Huai sneered.

"Yes! I don't want to."

Jiang Meifang didn't expect Su Li to reject her in front of so many people. She was a little annoyed and said, "Su Li, you're not in a hurry to take the exam. What's wrong with giving me your seat?"

"I have an urgent matter to attend to in town. I'm sorry, I can't give up this spot. If you linger here any longer, we'll all be in real trouble on our second trip."

Upon hearing this, the crowd below realized that it was true; if Jiang Meifang were to say a few more words, wouldn't that waste their time?

"Jiang Zhiqing, you'd better move aside! If you're late, be considerate. Su Zhiqing said she has an urgent matter, so don't linger here."

One villager couldn't stand it.

"Yeah! We were all late, but we didn't say anything, did we?"

Jiang Meifang then made way, and Old Li, seeing that the agreement had been reached, gave a shout and drove off in his oxcart.

Once Su Li arrived in town, she found a secluded spot, changed her clothes, and headed towards the black market she had visited before.

She went directly to the courtyard where Lu Shan had stayed last time, and knocked on the door twice when she arrived.

When Lu Shan came out, his hair was messy, his eyes were puffy with sleep, and he looked like he had just woken up.

"You're here so early?"

"Um"

Did you bring the chestnuts?

"Same place as always. You can pick up the goods in an hour. But this time I'd like to trade something different. If possible, I'd like to trade some gold or antiques."

Su Li wanted to test her space to see if only gold could be upgraded, or if antiques could also be upgraded.

In the novels she had read before, space upgrades weren't just about gold; there were many other ways.

I wonder if this is her social media account?

"I do have some things on hand right now, but not much. However, I have more than enough to trade chestnuts."

I'll bring the things to the dilapidated temple in the suburbs in an hour; you can take a look then.

Thank you.
