Seeing Xiao Ying fly away, Su Li stayed in the space for a while. Since no one was home, she casually took a meal she had made earlier and ate it.
Now that she knows why Gu Huanian left, she's not so worried anymore; she has the spiritual spring water.
She'll be able to recover both his face and his legs by then; she's been busy with those things these days.
Neglecting the child, she planned to bring him back after dinner and take him to find Gu Huanian tomorrow.
Thinking of this, Su Li felt a little more relaxed. After finishing her meal, she even ate an apple.
After leaving the space, she locked the courtyard gate and rode her bicycle towards Chen Shujing's direction.
They arrived at the destination quickly. Liu Wenqing opened the door and was somewhat surprised to see Su Li.
These past few days, Su Li has been frantically searching for Gu Huanian, but she hasn't brought back any news.
Su Li came over today, could it be that she really found Gu Huanian?
Before Liu Wenqing could speak, Su Li asked first, "Uncle, is Auntie here? I want to take the baby home today."
Su Li noticed that Liu Wenqing's expression changed when she said she would take the baby back.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she looked up into the yard, her voice becoming more urgent: "Uncle, where's the baby?"
Liu Wenqing gestured for Su Li to come in first. Su Li entered the courtyard, and it seemed that Liu Wenqing was the only person in the house.
Liu Wenqing poured Su Li a cup of tea before saying, "When Hua Nian had his accident last time, his father took the child to live with him."
Liu Wenqing paused at this point.
"Then what"
"Then your aunt went to pick up the child these past two days, but Huanian's father said that the child will stay with him from now on."
Su Li's face darkened after hearing this. Seeing that Su Li's expression was not good, Liu Wenqing quickly said, "Su Li, don't worry, your aunt has already gone to pick up the child."
Seeing Su Li stand up, Liu Wenqing quickly said, "Have you eaten dinner? I'll go cook now. Wait here for a while; your aunt might bring the child back soon."
She knew Chen Shujing's personality all too well; she simply couldn't handle Gu Aiguo, otherwise she wouldn't have gone several times without getting the child back.
"Uncle, I'm not eating anymore, I have to go now."
After saying that, Su Li left immediately, riding her bicycle directly towards the military compound where Gu Aiguo was located.
By the time I rode my bicycle over there, it was already quite late.
From afar, Su Li saw Chen Shujing standing at the gate of the courtyard, but she couldn't even get in.
Su Li had even less reason to expect her to bring the child out.
She found a secluded spot and entered the space.
Using the space, she went directly into the military family compound. She was actually thinking about a question: although Gu Aiguo did not hold an important position, he still had to go to work every day.
So how has he been taking care of the child these past few days?
That means he must have found someone else to help take care of the child. Whenever Su Li thought of this, she remembered how cruel the previous nanny was to the child, almost killing him.
Thinking of this, she quickened her pace.
As soon as Su Li reached the gate of Gu Aiguo's courtyard, she heard the child's piercing cries.
She felt a sudden pang of pain in her chest and rushed into the house. There she saw a middle-aged woman dressed in a flamboyant manner slapping the child's exposed buttocks repeatedly. "You little brat, all you do is cry all day long. I'll teach you a lesson today."
The child's cries grew even more piercing as he was beaten. The woman was annoyed by the cries and worried that other neighbors passing by might hear them.
She reached out and covered the child's mouth, saying, "Don't cry, don't cry."
Su Li was so angry she was about to lose her mind, and almost rushed out of the space.
Finally, she calmed down.
He strode up to the woman, picked up a stool from the ground, and smashed it down on her head.
Niu Aifang didn't see anyone behind her at all. She just suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head and abruptly released her grip on the child's mouth.
The child was crying so hard he could barely breathe. Su Li felt a pang of heartache and wanted to pick him up immediately, but she couldn't just appear out of thin air.
She wouldn't let this woman get away with it. Su Li picked up the stool again and smashed it over the woman's head. She'd be doing her a disservice if she didn't kill her today.
Niu Aifang was on the verge of a breakdown. There was clearly no one behind her, but the stool flew up on its own and came crashing down on her.
Could this house be haunted? Could it be that Gu Aiguo's deceased mother, unable to tolerate her bullying her great-grandson, caused this...?
The thought of this possibility terrified her, and she screamed as she ran toward the door.
Su Li didn't chase after them, mainly because the child was crying too hard.
After Niu Aifang left, Su Li looked around and saw that no one was outside the courtyard.
She locked the door from the inside before coming out of the space.
She picked the child up from the bed. The child looked at her with a pout, his voice hoarse from crying.
"Don't cry, baby, Mommy's here."
She carried the child into the space, which contained the formula, diapers, clothes, and other supplies she had prepared beforehand.
The child must have been hungry; he was crying and rolling around in her arms.
Su Li prepared some formula for him and waited until he was full.
She fetched some hot water and washed him, and that's when she noticed the bruises all over his body.
Su Li felt heartbroken seeing this; the child's bottom was swollen, and there were scars on the soft flesh around the child's waist.
It was clear how cruel that woman was to the child; Su Li's heart pounded with anger.
She felt she had really let her child down, because she thought the child had been with Chen Shujing all this time.
