Eternal Night

Eternal Night

The warm yellow light streamed quietly, and the person about to wake up in bed was the only chill in the room.

The shadow cast by the light on the eyelashes trembled slightly, and the discomfort caused by the headache made the body wake up before the eyes. The cold hands subconsciously reached to the side, looking for the comforting warmth.

Expectations dashed.

Zhou Qiting slowly opened his eyes, the haziness in his eyes made his black pupils even darker, it was an eternal night without clarity.

As her senses gradually became clearer, the dull pain that seemed to penetrate her solar plexus made her frown. She lifted the thin blanket that did not provide much warmth and stood up to sit on the edge of the bed.

On the bedside table lay the leather collar she had taken off with her own hands, symbolizing the end of the transaction.

The pale fingertips suddenly stopped before touching the collar, and instead picked up the water cup next to him. Zhou Yiting swallowed a mouthful of cold water to suppress the restlessness brought about by pain and loss.

She turned off the night light and pressed the button for the curtains at the head of the bed, watching the bright sunlight pouring in through the slowly widening gap, but she was unable to dispel the thick shadow and coldness in her eyes.

I picked up my silent phone and saw several missed calls and two messages from the same person.

"You're not still sleeping, are you?"

"I'll wait for you at your door."

The call was made an hour ago, and the message was from more than ten minutes ago.

Zhou Qiting sighed helplessly. After a simple wash, she put on a knitted cardigan over her nightgown. Enduring a slight headache, she walked to the entrance and personally opened the door for the person who took time out of his busy schedule to visit her.

Zheng Siying couldn't stand this kind of decadent lifestyle, and she criticized him the moment she saw him: "What time is it? Why are you just waking up?"

This busy person who came uninvited had never understood the meaning of "politeness." Zhou Qiting didn't exchange pleasantries with her. After opening the door, she turned and walked towards the living room. Without even turning back, she said, "It's the weekend, and it's not even ten o'clock yet."

Following closely behind, Zheng Siying smelled a hint of alcohol that had not yet evaporated. She watched Zhou Qiting lean back on the sofa with her eyes closed as soon as she reached it. After sitting down across from her, she couldn't help but say, "You can't just drink wine like water on the weekend."

"Yeah." Zhou Yiting rubbed his eyebrows with one hand and responded softly, obviously not taking the advice seriously.

Seeing Zhou Qiting's love-struck dejected look for the first time, Zheng Siying bluntly teased, "It's been three months, and you still can't let go?"

"Can't let go?" Zhou Qiting put down his hand, opened his eyes and looked at Zheng Siying, saying slowly, "That's not the case, I just feel a little regretful."

I regretted ending the deal out of pity and took off the collar with positioning.

He regretted not being able to put the shackles on the escaped person himself so that she would never leave his sight again.

I regretted giving my trust once again, only to be betrayed in return.

If Zhou Yiting had known that the meeting three months ago was the last one, he would never have let her go easily.

Zheng Siying misunderstood the "regret" in Zhou Qiting's words, thinking she was referring to not telling her about the spy's presence in the company right away. She consoled him again, "Actually, I discovered that spy before, but their methods of stealing the data were too crude, and they couldn't steal the key points, so I didn't take it seriously."

At this point, Zheng Siying paused a bit embarrassedly, smoothed the wrinkles on the corner of her suit jacket, and continued, "I originally wanted to collect enough evidence before thoroughly interrogating her, but I didn't expect her to cause such a big scene..."

It almost caused Zhou Qiting to get into trouble in her company.

Zheng Siying shuddered just thinking about it. If something had really happened to Zhou Qiting at that time, she couldn't think of how she could give an explanation to the Zhou family except to die.

Over the past three months, not only had her family repeatedly urged her, but she also felt really bad about it, so she had gotten up early and gone to the house to apologize several times. Today, she waited a little longer and just happened to run into Zhou Qiting.

There was no way. What happened a while ago made Zheng Siying so busy dealing with the aftermath that she had to squeeze in time to even apologize.

In fact, she had said everything she needed to say on the phone, but she still felt that apologizing in person would be more sincere.

"Okay." Zhou Qiting guessed the reason why Zheng Siying said this and interrupted her apology in advance. "I also have a great responsibility in that matter."

She paused for a moment, not wanting to mention the fake name, so she changed it to another: "The identity of the missing person is fake. I didn't tell you out of selfish reasons. Therefore, the accident that happened in your company is inextricably linked to me."

From the moment she witnessed the unknown man following the business spy named Huang Peiyi, Zhou Yiting should have thought that the two of them might be of the same kind, but her arrogance made her think the situation was under control and she ignored the potential dangers.

Looking back now, she was too careless during the time she was with that person, so much so that even when she knew that person even disguised his iris 24 hours a day, she was still willing to believe him and did not pursue the matter further.

If I had intentionally kept that person's biological information at that time, I wouldn't have ended up in the situation where I can't find this person now.

Thinking of this, Zhou Qiting's eyes became even colder.

After she discovered that the man had disappeared, she ordered her men to dig deep underground to find him. As a result, they found that not only her own home, but also the man's residence had been cleaned out thoroughly. Not to mention a hair, not even a fingerprint was left.

This means that the man has been on guard since he came into contact with Zhou Qiting, and is ready to escape at any time.

The only thing that person left for Zhou Yiting was an anonymous bank card with a larger amount in it than their original "transaction" amount.

When his subordinates reported the amount of money in the bank card, no matter how well-educated Zhou Qiting was, he couldn't help but throw the bank card to the ground in front of his subordinates.

The extra amount is exactly the transaction amount divided by the original number of trading days, and then multiplied by the actual duration of the transaction.

What she meant was that Zhou Qiting was not using money to trade with her, but she was using money to buy Zhou Qiting's time.

Regardless of any bottom line, facing this undisguised humiliation, Zhou Qiting really wanted to catch her and punish her severely.

Seeing Zhou Qiting's face growing colder with recollection, Zheng Siying, who didn't know the truth, tried to persuade him kindly: "Apart from Huang Peiyi's confession, there is no other evidence that can directly prove that the missing person was involved in the whole thing. Therefore, the responsibility is not yours, and you don't have to blame yourself."

The traces left at the scene of the accident only pointed to Huang Peiyi.

Based on the few vague pieces of information left, Zheng Siying inferred that the relationship between them was probably just a cooperative one where both parties got what they needed.

As for why Huang Peiyi's confession was directly excluded, it was because Zheng Siying really could not completely believe the words of a person who knelt down in front of her as soon as they met, then hugged her thighs and cried bitterly, putting all the blame on another person.

Moreover, during the subsequent interrogation, when talking about some details, Huang Peiyi changed her words several times, making her words sound even more unreliable.

The most important thing is that on the day of the accident, when almost everyone in the building was busy escaping, that person was the first to rescue Zhou Qiting who was trapped in the elevator, and then disappeared, making it difficult to understand what her real purpose was.

Thinking of the elevator, Zheng Siying also considered herself unlucky. On that day, Zhang Hao, the boss of Haohai Industrial, who came to the company to discuss cooperation, was also trapped in another elevator. Afterwards, she could only hold her nose, endure the nausea, and apologize to such a person.

Zheng Siying secretly made up her mind that she still had to talk to her family about changing this partner.

"How could Huang Peiyi accomplish so many things all by herself?" Zhou Qiting took a sip of the honey water the servant had prepared on the coffee table and continued, "Just accept my personal compensation. Otherwise, I'll really feel bad."

Zhou Yiting's suspicion is reasonable.

Cutting off closed-circuit surveillance, security communications and power distribution in multiple areas of the building, as well as igniting multiple locations and triggering smoke alarms, among so many things, only the last one was later confirmed to be done by Huang Peiyi alone. Huang Peiyi denied all the previous incidents that directly led to Zhou Yiting's dangerous situation.

Therefore, that person is the most suspicious.

She suddenly recalled the tender words "I'll kill you too," and her doubts grew even stronger. If that was true, then that man had many better opportunities to kill her, but he hadn't done it yet, and this time he had actually saved her.

It was neither a robbery nor a murder. It was difficult for Zhou Qiting to analyze her real purpose, but she was still genuinely angry that she dared to abandon her.

When Zheng Siying heard Zhou Qiting mention the "personal compensation" that was enough to completely renovate the Zhenbang headquarters building, she quickly waved her hands and said, "Come on, I don't dare accept it. If you want me to be kicked out of the house, just say so."

After a long conversation, Zheng Siying still failed to make amends, so she had to bring up another matter: "I've gotten some clues about what you asked me to help investigate. The video of the second case was strictly suppressed by the Investigation Bureau. I only got the video of the third case, and I've had someone send it to your email."

When mentioning this video, Zheng Siying couldn't help but frown and kindly reminded: "It is not recommended to watch it after dinner."

"Thank you very much." Zhou Qiting thanked him sincerely.

The reason why she asked Zheng Siying to help investigate was because it was difficult for her to find any useful information on her own, and any related action would be stopped by her mother.

Since she became an adult, although her mother has given her enough freedom, it is only relative. The premise of freedom is that she will not be involved in matters related to the past kidnapping case.

She could understand her mother's overprotective desire caused by fear, so she accepted the bodyguards arranged by her mother to surround her, either openly or secretly.

But only by facing fear can one overcome it. She wants to untie the knot in her heart from the past by herself.

After sending Zheng Siying out of the house, Zhou Qiting went to the study and opened the video of the third case in the mailbox.
