Chapter 118: Mundane Affairs

"Father, I'm back!"

When Su Rui entered the county government office, the gatekeeper stared at him in disbelief, as if he had seen a ghost. Su Rui placed his hand to his lips, silencing him. Then he entered the office and saw Magistrate Su Daquan, buried in his desk. He approached, smiling softly and greeting him as if returning home from a day out.

Upon hearing this, Magistrate Su's hand holding the pen trembled. He raised his head and glanced at Su Rui. He first said "hmm" in a deep voice, and then said, "I'm glad you're back! Your mother missed you so much, go see her!"

Magistrate Su's tone was calm, but Su Rui could sense the unspoken care and kindness in his heart. For some reason, Magistrate Su looked much older, his hair a mixture of black and white, and crow's feet had appeared at the corners of his eyes.

"Father, I am an unfilial son! Please... take care of yourself!" Su Rui suddenly felt a little timid, and all the thoughts in his mind turned into just one incoherent sentence of concern.

Magistrate Su smiled and spoke earnestly, "Your eldest brother passed the Juren exam this year and will be going to the capital to take the exam next year. You two brothers, one studying literature and the other martial arts, are just right to look after each other! Men have ambitions to travel far and wide. You have your own paths to follow, and I, your father, have mine too. If you're worried about me, come back and visit! Go ahead, don't keep your mother waiting too long!"

Su Rui nodded with tears in her eyes and said "hmm", then left the government office and walked to the courtyard of the county government office.

Probably due to a tip-off from the doorman, before Su Rui even entered the courtyard, he saw the county magistrate's wife walking towards him in a hurry with her maid.

"Mother!" Su Rui stopped and shouted to the county magistrate's wife with a grin.

"You damned child, you finally decided to come back!" The county magistrate's wife's eyes turned red when she saw Su Rui. She pretended to be angry and cursed him, but she pulled him into her arms and gave him a big hug.

"Erlang, why did you leave without saying a word? You don't know how worried your parents are about you!!" After hugging him, the county magistrate's wife pulled Su Rui aside and asked.

"I was just having fun and got kidnapped by a bad guy! But don't worry, Mom, he's dead now!" Su Rui said with a playful smile. This wasn't a lie, he just wanted to make his mother worry. Furthermore, Taoist Qiao San, who had taken advantage of the chaos to hold him, had indeed been killed by True Man Yu'e.

"Then he really deserves to die... You didn't kill him, did you?" The county magistrate's wife suddenly asked. She seemed to be frightened by her sudden thought and looked a little nervous.

"It's not me, it's a senior master!" Su Rui shook his head. Taoist Qiao San died at the hands of True Man Yu'e. Isn't True Man Yu'e a senior master?

"That's good, that's good!" said the county magistrate's wife, patting her chest.

"I haven't seen you in a while. You've lost weight. Mother made some chicken soup..." The magistrate's wife took Su Rui's hand and walked into the courtyard of the county government office, chatting as they walked. Su Rui nodded and responded from time to time, joining in the magistrate's wife's chatter. His appearance was actually a complete transformation of his previous image, but what parent in the world would think their child was not thin?

Afterwards, Su Rui and the county magistrate's wife drank chicken soup and ate a lot of cakes that the county magistrate's wife had made when she had nothing better to do. Finally, he returned to his bedroom with a full stomach.

At the door of his bedroom, the maid He Hua was already waiting at the door. When she saw Su Rui, she looked a little confused: "Er Lang, why are you back?"

Looking at the fatter Lotus, Su Rui realized that she was just an ordinary person, not the "Lotus" transformed by the little fox demon.

"I wonder where the little fox demon has gone?" Su Rui pondered as he walked into the bedroom.

That night, when Su Rui was meditating and practicing, he suddenly felt several evil spirits approaching.

Just as he was wondering what kind of monster it was, a little fox demon jumped from the outside wall to the windowsill of his bedroom.

"Su Erlang, you are finally back!" The little fox demon's joyful voice sounded in Su Rui's ears, and then he saw the little fox demon turned into a lotus and appeared in front of him.

"You're still here, I thought you were gone! Those outside... are your companions?" Su Rui was very happy to see the little fox demon. He sensed that there were still several demonic auras outside the bedroom, one of which was even a little unfathomable.

"Yes, they are all my companions in Black Mountain," the little fox demon nodded. Then, she stuck her head out of the window and called out softly. Su Rui saw a winged monkey leading a group of small demons of various animals, including weasels, monkeys, deer, rabbits, and other animals, jumping into his room from the windowsill.

Suri's room suddenly turned into a small zoo.

"This is General Jiji, the leader of the Thunder Monkey Clan, this is Brother Huangyi, this is Maomao, this is Lu'er, this is Yu'er..." The little fox demon introduced these little demons to Su Rui one by one.

After he finished his introduction, all the little demons clasped their fists and bowed, saying, "Greetings, Lord Su Shan!"

Su Rui was a little confused when she heard their address, so she looked at the little fox demon and signaled her with her eyes to come out and explain.

"You are the designated successor of Lord Hu Shan, and you possess the Black Mountain Divine Seal. You are the new Lord Hu Shan, and the leader of our Black Mountain demon clan!" The little fox demon understood Su Rui's eyes and jumped out to explain.

It turns out that this group of little demons were all followers of the previous Black Mountain God. After the previous Black Mountain God died, they followed his will and served as their master.

Su Rui was a little confused. He had no intention of going to Black Mountain to be a god or a mountain king, but facing the innocent eyes of these little monsters that were full of expectation, he couldn't say no.
