Chapter 31 Gengjin Sword Qi Jue

Among the Ten Thousand Mountains.

A group of demons stood trembling in front of a cave where the wind howled miserably, waiting quietly.

Suddenly, there was a roaring sound in the cave. If you listened carefully, you could tell that it was actually the sound of footsteps, but it was too loud that it felt like a roar.

After the footsteps were heard, the gloomy wind in the cave was so scared that it stopped howling and could only make a low humming sound, as if someone was sobbing.

The footsteps stopped, and a pair of eyes with red light suddenly appeared in the depths of the dark cave.

"The shadow snake is dead?" The being in the cave spoke, and the sound was like the clanging of metal.

"Report to the general, the Shadow Snake Commander was killed by the Emei Sect's disciples with flying swords while searching for treasures!" A snake demon stood up and replied with a trembling body.

"A bunch of trash!" The voice inside the cave was furious, followed by a cold threat: "Tomorrow is the last day I'll give you. If you don't come back, I'll tear your tendons and skin you alive! You better take care of yourself!!"

However, Su Rui and his entourage came to the City God Temple with the onlookers.

When the gatekeeper of the temple saw this, he thought something big had happened and hurriedly called out the temple priest.

When they saw the giant bear-like figure of Captain Wu, they knew that it must be a team that came to exchange the monster's corpse for treasure, so they put their minds at ease.

But they were also shocked when they saw the carcasses of wolves, each as big as a calf, being brought in one after another. This wasn't just one wolf, but ten! Once they were brought down, they would form a small mountain.

Captain Wu brought Su Rui to the temple keeper, clasped his fists and bowed to him, saying, "This is Erlang, the son of Magistrate Su. Today, I have brought the wolf carcass to you in exchange for a treasure. Please pray to the gods!"

The temple keeper returned the greeting and had his servant call on the captain of the police and the officers to take the wolf demon's body back to the temple. Then he said to Su Rui, "Erlang, please follow me inside to meet the spirit!"

As he spoke, he took Su Rui into the main hall of the City God Temple.

The two men first went to the City God statue in the center to burn incense and candles, then bowed to the Military Judge, and then went to the Civil Judge statue to light a specially made long incense stick.

This long incense seems to be made of sandalwood with other medicinal herbs, and it emits a lingering fragrance when lit.

Su Rui smelled the smoke of the long incense, and felt his heart quickly calm down, and his eyelids slowly drooped.

He suddenly started awake, woke up from his drowsiness, and looked at the temple keeper warily.

The temple keeper hurriedly explained, "The gods cannot appear before the hour of Hai. We can only meet them through dreams. Please don't resist!"

Su Rui heard this and thought about it, thinking it made sense. The key point was that Captain Wu and the others were just outside the door, so he was not afraid that the temple keeper had any bad intentions.

So I calmed down again, stopped resisting the sleepiness, and gradually fell asleep.

In the dream, Su Rui came to a magnificent hall. This hall was also decorated with gold, and the furniture was no different from that in the human world, except for the faint smell of sandalwood.

Sitting at the head of the hall was a white-faced man in a green robe. He was dressed like a judge, with a stern look between his eyebrows, but otherwise he looked like an ordinary person.

When he saw Su Rui, he asked softly, "Where are you from, little boy? What do you want?"

Su Rui bowed and responded loudly, "Greetings, Judge! I am Su Qinghe, the second son of the Su family. I have come here today to exchange for the treasure on the bounty order. Please fulfill your promise, Judge!"

Judge Wen flipped through the scroll on the table, his expression startled. He asked, "Did you also hunt that dying blue wolf?"

Su Rui nodded: "It's what I hunted!"

Judge Wen nodded and praised the man, then continued, "Saving a dying blue wolf demon is a great merit! Saving the bodies of ten wolves is also worth ten small merits, which can be exchanged for one great merit! That's two great merits in total. What do you want in exchange?"

Su Rui didn't directly state his goal, but asked, "Can I exchange it for a Taoist technique?"

Judge Wen nodded and said, "It's barely exchangeable! However, there are only two volumes of Taoist secrets in the hall: the Gengjin Sword Qi Art and the Yuanti Refining Secret Art. The former is a fragment of the Qingcheng Sect's sword techniques, and the latter is a volume of the Western Demon Sect's secret manual. Which one would you choose?"

Both techniques sounded powerful, and as an adult, Su Rui actually wanted both. But if he had to choose one, he remembered the elegant manner of the Emei scholar who had slain the snake demon with a single strike, and he leaned towards the Gengjin Sword Qi Jue. Furthermore, it belonged to the Qingcheng Sect, and while the manuscript was incomplete, it clearly sounded like a legitimate technique. As for the Western Demon Sect, where the Yuanti Lianzhen secret technique resided, who knew if practicing it would have any side effects, such as becoming a bloodthirsty demon or some other monster.

"If I want to learn both techniques, how much skill will it take?" Su Rui asked tentatively.

"It requires five great merits now, but it's hard to say what will happen in the future!" Judge Wen said meaningfully.

"I want the Gengjin Sword Qi Jue, please grant me that!" Su Rui pondered for a moment, then made up his mind. Judge Wen said that two techniques required five great merits, so wouldn't one require two and a half great merits? It was indeed a stretch, but since the other party agreed to exchange the techniques, Su Rui naturally wouldn't back down.

Judge Wen smiled and waved his hand, pointing a point of golden light emitting brilliant colors at the center of Su Rui's eyebrows.

Su Rui did not resist and let the golden light sink into his eyebrows. He soon felt that there was an additional Taoist sword technique in his mind, which was the Gengjin Sword Qi Technique!

Su Rui was delighted and took his leave from Judge Wen.

Judge Wen did not keep him and sent him out of the dream with a wave of his sleeves.

But after Su Rui left, Judge Wen's face showed a hint of greed. He felt that there were traces of divine power left on Su Rui, which was pure and noble.
