Apart from a few lingering traces of black dog blood and incense in the air, the riverbank has almost returned to its usual tranquility.
The villagers who had gathered to watch the spectacle earlier had long since moved to another spot.
The commotion could be faintly heard coming from the large brick house in the center of the village.
The huge sun hung halfway over the top of Fuhu Mountain, draping the verdant mountain in a golden veil. At the foot of the mountain, in front of a wooden house, a man dressed in a sky-blue robe sat quietly in a rattan chair.
His stern face gained a touch of warmth under the light.
It's less like the usual "keep away" attitude.
Su Hua stood outside the courtyard for a while, and her chaotic mood suddenly felt much better.
Indeed, good-looking people and things can be pleasing to the eye.
"Miss Su has arrived!" The man's eyelids twitched slightly, and his deep eyes looked at the girl at the door, the temperature between them instantly rising a few degrees.
"Yes!" Seeing that she had been caught, Su Hua was not embarrassed at all. Instead, she grinned.
He placed the full basket of vegetables on the stone table and laid them out one by one.
"Young Master Xiao, my mother noticed that you didn't attend your birthday banquet today, so she specially asked me to bring some dishes over for you to try."
The menu includes fish and mutton stew, braised offal, spicy mutton blood curd, chopped chili fish head, spicy fish offal, stir-fried dried rabbit with garlic leaves, pan-fried eel slices with perilla, dry-fried small loach, a yin-yang symbol, and scrambled eggs with scallions.
There's also a steamed assortment of cured meats made with cured chicken, cured pork, and cured fish!
The girl chattered away as she deftly placed the large bowl on top in front of the man. "Here, this fish and mutton stew is made from the wild goat and grass carp you brought over early this morning. It's incredibly delicious..."
Three miles away from the wooden house, on a hillside, a baby-faced boy squatted on a tree branch, watching this scene, when his foot slipped.
I almost fell off the tree.
"Hmm?" Su Hua paused slightly.
I turned my head to look.
But all they could see was a large tree that would take two people to encircle.
At the very top, the canopy of trees, which blocked out the sky, seemed to tremble slightly.
At the very end of the tree canopy, a brightly colored pheasant tail just slipped out of sight.
"No wonder you can catch a dozen or so pheasants behind the house! It turns out you're living in a paradise!" Su Hua smiled.
He looked away, then brought the large bowl even closer. "You can't get this fish and mutton soup anywhere else, and it's incredibly nourishing. You absolutely must drink more of it!"
Xiao Jinhan leaned lazily against the rattan chair, his deep gaze falling on the girl's porcelain-white face, taking in all her overflowing attentiveness.
A mischievous glint flashed in his eyes.
She nodded obediently, "Yes! I'll do whatever Miss Su says."
After saying that, he took Su Hua's hand and drank the soup from the edge of the large bowl.
Under the canopy of the big tree, Yu Yu had one leg hanging precariously from a branch, while Yu Feng held the other leg in his hand, making her look like a trident hanging upside down.
His eyes widened in surprise.
This chubby girl has such good hearing, it's no less than those of the girls who have received special training.
Even though they were three miles apart, neither he nor Yu Feng could hear the conversation between the man and the woman clearly, but the chubby girl could immediately tell that it was coming from his side.
And she actually dared to stand so close to the master!
How dare they force me to drink soup?!
Isn't she afraid of being killed by my sword?!
Su Hua was unaware of the risk of being hacked to death.
Warm lips brushed against her fingertips, causing her heart to skip a beat once more. Her almond-shaped eyes widened slightly as she watched the man drink the entire bowl of milky white soup down to the last drop.
After finishing the soup, she heard the man's deep voice again, "Miss Su, I'd like to eat the steamed assorted preserved meats again."
"Huh? Steamed assorted preserved meats?" Su Hua snapped out of her daze.
Immediately, she obediently picked up her chopsticks, took out a piece of golden-yellow preserved fish, and held it to the man's lips, a gentle smile appearing on her lips, "Here, this preserved fish has bones in it, Young Master Xiao, please be careful when you eat it, and don't choke on them."
"Yes, thank you for reminding me, Miss Su. This cured fish is really delicious. I'd also like to try some braised pork liver."
"Miss Su, I'd like a spicy lamb blood curd."
"Miss Su, I'd like to eat that chopped chili fish head."
"Miss Su, I'd like some pan-fried eel slices,"
"Miss Su, I want more..."
Every time the man ordered a dish, Su Hua would circle around the stone table. When she looked up, she saw that the man's cheeks were bulging and his eyes were full of mischief.
Su Hua suddenly paused with her chopsticks, "Xiao Jinhan! Did you do this on purpose?"
"Where was it intentional?"
Xiao Jinhan chuckled and took the chopsticks from the girl's hand.
Junyi raised an eyebrow. "We've known each other for so many days, and it's rare to see Miss Su so gentle and considerate. She's gotten so engrossed in eating that she's forgotten to stop."
Su Hua's lips twitched.
What does it mean to see her gentle and considerate side rarely?
Aside from the time she stepped on Meng Fu's green bean eye in the dilapidated temple, which was a bit too fierce, she also caught wild boars on the mountain, crushed Meng Fu's wrist, broke Wang Ergou's leg, made a scene at the Meng family's door, and scared Ma Xiangu... These things might be a bit too fierce.
It could be considered gentle, if barely... maybe.
Xiao Jinhan looked at the expression on the girl's face, shook his head and smiled.
He stood up, pulled out a rattan chair for her, and then picked up a Tai Chi diagram and carefully peeled it open. "Miss Su, if you have something to say, please do so. As the saying goes, two heads are better than one. Perhaps I can be of some help?"
Upon hearing this, Su Hua's almond-shaped eyes suddenly brightened.
She had been waiting for this sentence for ages.
After quickly going through the prepared clichés in her mind, she habitually rubbed her hands together and said, "Xiao Jinhan, I'd like to ask you to help me follow someone."
"OK."
The two voices fell one after the other.
There was almost no pause during the entire process.
